Don't underestimate the simplicity of a cheese quesadilla; this little hole-in-the-wall in a strip mall has perfected theirs. It was simple, yet memorable. The Peruvian roasted chicken was seasoned beautifully. The plantains are among the best I have ever eaten; caramelized amazingly. Just ate at Sambroson, and was impressed with the meal and the service. I ordered the special and the Mrs. had vegetarian fajitas. First we got a small salad with advocado slices. It had a dressing that went with it. My wife thought it had a nice "kick" to it, but I didn't think it was hot at all. My wife also ordered a Margarita and said it was of the best she ever had. The food came out hot, and was delicious. What stood out to me was the dedication of one of the owners. He was doing it all from taking orders, to answering phones, and making drinks. Unlimited chips and salsa are great, as is the salsa bar. I come here mostly for the pupusas, though - they are amazing and a great deal at that price! You can tell that everything is handmade with care. The wait is a little bit long, but it's entirely worth it for the knowledge of how much care the staff are taking with your food. read more

We had an assortment of pupusas, all of which were excellent went a nice proportion of fillings, and also ordered a pair of chicken dishes, also excellent. Lots of people seem to love this place, but I don't really understand why. People have commented on the chips and salsa, but the chips are clearly from a bag and lack any trace of salt, the salsa (and pretty much everything else we ate) was just bland and flavorless. The rice and beans were undercooked with no seasoning. The maduros were laying in a puddle of oil. The papusas were OK, having Salvadorean friends, I would say they're an 7/10. The server was really nice, but after bringing the meal, we never saw her again. It was around 15 minutes after we finished that my husband got up and flagged someone to help us with settling the bill. Bottom line: I think there are better options for ethnic food, and I would avoid this place in the future. It sounded good, the reviews were good, but the promise was a lie. read more

My wife and I are visiting Williamsburg for the first time and was looking for something good and different to eat. I checked yelp and read some of the reviews and decided to give it a try. Well.. the reviews were spot on. The food was really good. My wife had the 1/4 chicken with yucca and fried plantain. The chicken had great flavor and I highly recommend it. This restaurant has fantastic food! The dishes are made with fresh ingredients, and the portions are generous. For dinner, I had horchata, guacamole, fajitas, and pupusas with pork cheese and beans. The guacamole was a bit spicy because it was made with fresh jalapeño peppers, but I like guacamole with a kick to it. There is plenty of food leftover for my lunch tomorrow! Definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant, although they do have dishes you would expect to find at a Mexican place. They have a lot more to offer in the way of Latin American food. Based on the good reviews we decided to try this place out, passing through the door there was no one near by to seat us so after standing there for a short time we decided to take matters into our own hands and chose a table. We order Saltado Mix was salty and only with onions and tomato one torta with out flavor and one carne asada not flavor at all maybe the reviews are giving by people with out taste or they are to drunk to have taste . My Spanish professor brought our class here so we immediately engaged in conversation with the friendly staff from many countries in Latin America. Fútbol on almost all the tvs around, great drinks and chips w/ pico/guacamole, and DELICIOUS pupusas. We got to try many unique ingredients and dishes that many other Latino/Mexican restaurants do not offer in the area. We brought our twins and their friends here for dinner after Busch gardens. It was their birthday and I chose here because of the yelp reviews and the coupon I found online. I'm a teacher and I can't afford a huge dinner bill. Food was authentic and good. The service was amazing! So friendly and caring. And then they gave the kids churros. They didn't have to do that! We stopped in for a late lunch a while back, so we basically had the restaurant to ourselves. The service was fast and friendly. We ordered various tacos, including the tongue which was cooked and seasoned well. This is one of the only places around where tongue is available, so that's reason enough to go back when in the area. The salsa bar has some nice choices. The attached fiends next door has hard to otherwise find Latin grocery items. Generally a good experience and it's worth it to drop in for a quick meal. read more

We have lived in Williamsburg for awhile and hadn't tried this place yet. Having heard it was pretty good we decided to give it a try. First impression was how dirty the place was! Apparently several large parties had just left and none of the tables had been cleaned. We stood at the door for several minutes debating if we stay or go before someone from the bar yelled we could just sit anywhere. After sitting, a nice young man greeted us, apologetically, and asked for our drink order. After several back and forth exchanges because it seemed most of the beer selection was "unavailable", we finally got drinks and placed our order. Even though the restaurant was practically empty, it took almost 30 minutes for two dishes to arrive. The food was okay, nothing remarkable. It is literally just another Mexican place. We didn't experience any Peruvian or other Latin American flare in the food. The service was alright, our server was pleasant enough. However, we won't come back as Williamsburg has several other really good Mexican places to choose from. read more

We travel the country and frequent locally owned places -- El Sabroson offers delicious freshly prepared Latin good with a couple of unique twists on the menu. The Pupusas and Tortas are very good. The Pollo a la Brasa is tasty, moist and hearty. Our total meal for two with wine was under $40 and offered great value. Friendly staff, great service. El Sabroson offers real value. I would like to have given this a higher rating simply because the staff was very friendly and attentive, but there were some issues. 4 different people waited on is doing out mall which created a disconnect in the service. We ordered one strawberry and one line margaritas and were served two lime, the food was okay, my husband said the enchiladas were bland and no where near enough sauce. The chorro pollo was tasty but the tortillas were rubbery. The server forgot my side salad because "no one told her" The margaritas were a bit lite on the tequila as well. After leaving Busch Gardens for the day the family and I were looking for a good place to grab Mexican food in the area. Naturally, we turned to Yelp which revealed El Sabroson as highly rated just 10 mins from the park. I didn't have a lot of time to read through the reviews so we set the GPS and headed to this place. At first, we thought we might be in the wrong place since the GPS took us to a somewhat run down strip mall. We drove right past it at first but realized the restaurant is co-located with a traditional Latin market, called Tu Tienda. When we walked in, we were warmly greeted and taken to our table. The place wasn't very busy for a late lunch but a few locals were hanging out at the bar enjoying a few mid-day margaritas and cervezas. Their menu was very extensive and prices extremely reasonable. We started our meal with their complementary chips and salsa, both were truly authentic, homemade, and most importantly, delicious. We ordered a guacamole to accompany the chips and salsa and it was one of the top 5 guacamoles we've had at a restaurant. It had the right mixture of spices, jalapenos, and tomatoes. My youngest had the kids cheese quesadilla and it was a little on the small side but between the 3 baskets of chip and that, he was satisfied. My older son got the tacos with chicken and steak. They had a salsa bar to top off the tacos. He really enjoyed them. My wife had the chicken taco salad with their homemade dressing in a taco bowl. All the tops were fresh and the chicken was warm and well-seasoned. I broke rank and went with their award winning half of a Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken with Spanish rice and plantains. The chicken was super moist and had an awesome flavor to it. Well deserving of their award. I usually don't mention non-alcoholic drinks in my reviews, but my wife also raved about how good their ice tea was. Obviously, home brewed and not the ordinary way you'd find in other restaurants. Now, El Sabroson labels themselves as Latin American cuisine rather than Mexican mainly because there is a strong influences from El Salvador throughout the menu, which differentiates them from a traditional Mexican restaurant. With that said, they still serve what us Americans expect in a Mexican restaurant like fajitas, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc., but I strongly encourage you to break from the norm and order something different. There are so many choices to choose from. Overall, it was a great lunch (great food and very good service) and certainly a place that we'll come back to the next time we find ourselves in Williamsburg and craving something other than Pierce's Pitt BBQ. read more

OMG!!! Having lived in El Salvador, these are the best Pupusas I've had since that time. They were huge filled with pork, beans and cheese. Very scrumptious! I also tried the Posole. Again what can I say. Having grown up in New Mexico it was perfect just like Mom used to make. The pork was cut to bite size pieces and the Hominy was cooked perfect. A nice touch us the Salsa bar to spice things up. My wife tried the Tamales. They were more New Mexican style (corn husk) than the Salvadorian (banana leaves). Again more meat than masa with wonderful taste. We would definitely make the trip to this restaurant next time we visit Williamsburg. read more

Stopped in for dinner tonight with the wife and another couple, based on the strength of the Yelp reviews. I gotta say.... all of us were pretty unimpressed. We eat Mexican and Peruvian fairly regularly, so we were pretty excited to try this place. Right away, though, poor service started things off on the wrong foot. The host took our drink orders, then left and did not return with our drinks. Then our server came by and asked for our drink order. We told her that we already ordered drinks, so she left. Then she came back again to take our drink orders. Is this some bizarre Peruvian custom that I don't understand? Regardless, we ordered again and eventually got our drinks. The margarita was not impressive, and my friend had to order three beers because they were out of dos Equis Amber and corona light. Chips and salsa were served. The salsa was okay but the chips were cold (like below room temperature). The menu is a little confusing, but I eventually settled on pork fajitas. But after I ordered they informed me that they were out of pork (6pm on a Saturday, mind you). So I selected bistecca Mexicano. My Spanish isn't very good, but apparently this means shoe leather marinated in soy sauce and smothered with onions. My friend got sopes carnitas, which is hilarious since they were out of pork seconds later. The sopes were soft and doughy, and covered in gobs of raw onion. Another friend got steak and shrimp fajitas, which had 4 shrimp and way less steak. A ton of onion though. Wifey got the chicken fajita burrito. The chicken was flavored well, but that's about it. As far as positives, the side salads with the house dressing were excellent. Portions were huge, but nobody wanted their leftovers. I'm not trashing this place, but we won't be back. It's just not a 4.5 star place. read more

The food was great: fresh, plentiful, tasty. Having read about the pupusas, I ordered the plate that has a selection of them. Loved it. My son had a burrito (as usual) and proclaimed it good; he's a connoisseur of burritos, so that's worth something. I can't remember what my husband had, but he said it was great. Our waitress was fun and friendly; when we told her the kids were learning Spanish she tried to get them to speak up. This restaurant is so close to a 5 star that I feel a little guilty giving only 4. We have tried several things on the menu.....come here very often, and really love it. The clear winner for us is the rotisserie chicken. The oven is imported from Peru and cooks with charcoal. The taste is magnificent and the sauces that come with it are definitely worth the drive to Williamsburg. The Yucca if wonderful. I don't eat french fries (calories) but I can't resist the Yucca, with a slightly richer flavor and a great consistency. The salad is good, dressing very good. We have had some of their other dishes and found them less to our taste but if you stick to the chicken, it is fabulous. The service is always good and quick. The decor is non-existent, but I like neighborhood dives, which this is. read more
