This is a review of the last time we were there last year September/October 2025. On many occasions over the past 8 years ,we have eaten and also purchased food to go and I've never had any problems with them. Until now. I had placed an order for some food for me to pick up to take home. I ordered 2 caldo de res, large size, One plate of Tacos con carne deshebrada, a plate of chicken enchiladas in green sauce, and a plate of chicken tacos. I pick it up on the way home. I got home and opened up the containers of food with my wife and we were very surprised to find that the food in the 3 plates were burnt. I am not talking about overcooked they were burnt to a black crisp. The tortillas in the Taco plates were burnt Black and the meat inside was extremely dry like jerky. The sauce on the enchiladas was almost nonexistent and a tortillas on the enchiladas ends were also burnt Black. The chicken in the inside was also very, very dry. The rice on all the plates did not look like rice it resembled more like seeds that you might plant outside. The beans are so dry that they had pulled away from the edges of the container and were a brown hard lump. Needless to say none of the food was appealing nor edible. I was quite surprised because this had never happened to us at this particular restaurant. It was late in the evening when I called them up. None of the managers were in at that moment. The cashier told me that one of the managers name was as Junior. I explained to the cashier what happened with my food order and she assured me she would get the message to one of the managers. I gave her my phone number. The next morning I received a call from a lady who said that she was one of the managers and wife of Junior, the other manager. I asked for Junior and the lady said that she could help me. She told me that Junior was there with her. I spoke with Her and describe the food that I had received and she apologized immensely. She said that she would like to remake the order for me. I said that would be great if you could do that and we would appreciate it. She asked me to come on in, I told her that that particular day I was not able to as I already had plans. She said not to worry that she would leave my name and instructions about my order with the cashier. Just to call first, come in and it would be taken care of. The following week I was able to call that Friday to let them know before I got there and the cashier said she did not know anything about what I was talking about. I explained to her the entire situation and she said that she was sorry that she still didn't know what what's going on. I asked if I could speak to the manager and she told me the manager was not in. I asked to speak to any of the two managers and she told me that none of them are in. I left a message with the cashier to give to Junior or his wife and that I would appreciate a call back. She said that she would be sure to give the message to them. The following week I did not receive a return call so I called them that Thursday. Again they were not in. Again I left a message, asking them to please call me back.(I think you can see where this went). I've been coming to this restaurant for over eight years and apparently that's not loyalty enough for them. I did explain this to the managers. The food has always been rather decent and sometimes good here . This time not at all. The management failed to follow up with me. I feel they could have at least returned my calls, they certainly had plenty of opportunities. They did not and to date I have not. In any business it is easier to keep your current and regular customers than to try to get new customers. That doesn't seem to be an important issue for them nor is it their current agenda. What I feel is more important is they have lost the patronage of a regular customer, myself. Unfortunately I will not be recommending this business any longer. I will not be returning to this restaurant at anytime in the near future. I will be spending my money elsewhere read more

El Sarape Del Valle has been a go to place for many locals as a friendly family style taqueria opened for more than two generations. Mary and Sonia are two fixtures of El Sarape presenting a staff that is always kind and efficient. Their daily specials are always an incredible value combining a small Caldo with meat or chicken and a Mexican Plate or taco special. The food is consistently good and freshly prepared. My understanding is that Google nominated El Sarape recently in their top 3 Mexican food restaurants. The only thing I have to say to that is that they have been my top 3 for several years! And yes there is some Yelp Pride here!!! What makes this restaurant really epic is their "low-key unpretentious approach to freshly delicious, affordable Mexican food! read more

Came here right before heading to the airport. We had an idea of ordering takeout food and eat it at the airport since the airport had a nice outdoor courtyard to eat it. It turned out to be a great idea, not only did this place make a great Menudo and tacos but we end up saving some money not buying mediocre food at the airport. Takeout was fast and convenient we picked up the order and was at the airport in under 8 minutes. read more

Ok.been there, done that. First of all the table service was excellent - timely and attentive but not over powering. I had the huevos rancheros while my wife had enchiladas montada. Food was decent but would have been much better if it had been served hot. It was barely Luke warm which was not pleasant. We live too faraway to make this a regular stop, but if in the area I would probably revisit. Prices were very reasonable. read more

We have eaten here a few times. The table service is always good. The food is tasty and they have a real nice selection. We take advantage of the daily breakfast and luncheon specials. A good variety. The huevos rancheros are delicious and so are their red enchiladas. We had their Lent specials the other day and it reminded me of my grandmother's preparations for Lent. They have a nice room for larger get togethers, birthdays maybe even a baby shower. The only issue I have with the restaurant is the strong odor of the bathroom freshener. It can be really strong and not pleasant when you are trying to enjoy your meal. I hope they read this review and tone down the freshener. Change the scent or something. The price of the food is reasonable and the atmosphere is friendly. read more

I saw they were busy at 9 in the morning and an ambulance crew was eating there. I figure if it is good enough for America's first responders, good enough for me Standard Mexican decor with hard working friendly staff. The red and green salsas were disappointingly bland and had little flavor. The chips are thick and fresh. I ordered the Mexican plate #3, that has a beef gordita, tamale, and two cheese enchiladas, with rice and beans. The beans were powdered reconstituted, the rice was bland. The gordita was excellent. I could order just a plate of them. Gordita are recommended. The cheese enchiladas were a bit bland, covered in the traditional thin brown enchilada sauce. The tamale was good enough I could order another one. Cheap prices, good fast friendly service, and a mixed bag on the food. read more

I'm actually surprised about the reviews for this place. Never been here but my coworkers invited me to have breakfast here after work. Place was easy to find but the parking situation wasn't great. Had to find parking in the neighborhood on the street. Figured this place has to be great since it was packed. Our waitress was incredible, very quick at refilling our drinks and our basket of tostadas. We had two baskets of tostadas because the green salsa was incredible. Had the perfect kick to it and was absolutely delicious. We all ordered different plates. My coworkers had Chiliquilles, enchiladas, and tacos de asada I think. I ordered the plates of tacos de Barbacoa. The tacos were perfect and definitely hit the craving I've been having for days. The only weird part about the experience was the way the onions were cut. Normally I'm used the the little cub versions but these were cut like strips. It was odd but still had a great experience and the food was delicious. read more

I was looking forward to eating here, a treat away from a chain restaurant, but I was disappointed on several levels. The food was good. My asado of pork in a red chile sauce was good, the beans and rice were OK, the beans had a tad too much salt. The dish did not come with a tortilla of any kind. The waitress offered it, but by the time it got to our table, half of the food was gone, even after I waited for the flour tortilla. This is a theme of our meal: we waited a considerable amount of time for the tortilla, the sopaipillas, and the check. Things just seemed poorly organized. At the end, we had to go back because we were charged for three plates, not two. However, a pleasant bonus in this disappointing meal was the guitarist who performed a delightful blend of pop music. Last minute decision to eat out on a Sunday afternoon in El Paso. We found a nearby restaurant, El Sarape Del Valle located on Montana across from the Albertson's. The interior of the restaurant has a mexican flair with Mexican music playing in the background. I ordered the Sarape special which consisted a Sirloin steak with chile con queso ( very light) on top of the steak, rice, beans, guacamole with a small salad on the side. The plate was adequate, a little skimpy for my taste, but overall tasty. A cold beer complimented the meal. read more

This place is so so , we came here as a last resort The food is just there and lacking in seasoning I ordered Pollo con chile y queso , well I saw no cheese on the plate and the piece of chicken I got looked like a scrap of chicken breast that was pounded so thin that it was more like a piece of shingle on a plate. My husband surprised me at work and brought me here for lunch. The parking lot is pretty tight, so if you have a large vehicle/truck you may want to park along the adjoining street. Service was excellent. They have a very large menu to choose from and lunch specials. The food was affordably priced and delicious, but was a bit on the greasy side. They don't carry sweet tea, but they did have aguas frescas which made up for it. We will be returning. read more

I came here for breakfast because of the proximity to my son's school. After meeting a friend here we both ordered coffee. My coffee cup had a lipstick stain!!! Mistake? Maybe, so she takes the cup and brings me a new one, with a less obvious lipstick stain, but lipstick none-the less!!!!! So either they don't care and just wiped it off or they don't know how to wash them. So after complaining nicely a second time and asking for the check of the 2 coffee cups what do they do with their excellent customer service?!? they charge me both cups without even blinking and act offended!! My brother and I went this morning, Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, to the Montana restaurant and both had a small bowl of caldo de rez and the Mexican Special #1 plate. It was the worst meal we've ever had. The corn tortillas from the cheese enchiladas were HARD and the red sauce was outrageously hot. My brother, who loves spicy enchiladas, couldn't even eat his. The rice was HARD and undercooked. The only thing edible was the chile relleno and beans. The food was COLD and the plate, which they microwaved, was hot. Even the caldo was luke-warm, but it was delicious. I demanded a discount and the cashier clerk removed the price of one of the plates. I was there Monday May 6 at about 3:30pm. My wife and I waited there for the menu about 10 minutes. We ordered 2 burritos and 1 beef stew, after 30 minutes I had to go ask why it was taking so long. Finally they took it to my table. The waiter had told us they had a new cook. Next day I tried to talk to owner by phone but they said to call in 10 minutes because he was busy. I called in 15 min. and they said he was gone. The Food was okay but it took too much time to serve us. There were 1 waiter and 1 waitress on duty. The waiter was the only one working. A friend and I came here for lunch on a Tuesday. We both work less than 5 minutes away, so we weren't pressed for time. Until we ordered. We placed our orders at 12:10 and our food didn't come out until 12:45. When it finally did arrive, we asked for boxes so that we could take our food. Another 5 minutes waiting for the boxes and our check. The taco and beans I was able to scarf down while we waited were hot and good, but I can't give higher than 2 stars to any place that advertises lunch specials and then takes 30+ minutes to get them out. read more

This restaurant has pretty decent food with plentiful servings and reasonable prices. Why the low mark? The last time I went I was repeatedly yelled at (with plenty of hand gestures) and threatened by some old man in a white wife-beater undershirt who rents a living space behind the restaurant. The parking lot is small and spaces are not evenly marked so I parked a little off and that was his beef. I went into the joint and was expecting to order. The service is bad there is a waiter that's a lambiscon with older costumers because they leave a good tip being that your younger he gives you bad service brought it up to the owners daughter attention an she don't give a hoot if you get good or bad service. I took my son to try out this restaurant. It was a waste of time. It was loud and crowded. The waitresses, cashiers and manager int he restaurant are too busy to take care of customers. My husband and I discovered this restaurant by chance and fell in love with the food. Being Hispanic I can tell you the food is authentically Mexican and consistently delicious. We come back every chance we get. The prices are amazing considering the amount of food served. On the weekend there is a singer who sings any ballad from any decade. He's very good.
