I was very excited to try this place for the machaca and green chile combo. Unfortunately the special seafood crab one (it was basically the crab sticks) wasn't as good as I thought. It was very heavy and very cheesy. There was something super heavy about that I cant describe. The staff was super nice and got us our food and drinks and refilled our salsa n chips often. My friend had the mole item and felt it was way too sweet/cocoa on it. Overall I would've wanted to try the other machaca items and other things. We chose this restaurant for my mother's 65th birthday lunch, hoping for a warm, authentic El Paso experience. I had just flown in from the airport, and my brother arranged it as a special family gathering. Everything started normally: we were seated, ordered our food, received our drinks, and enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. Then my sister (who is LGBTQ+) stepped away to use the restroom. When she returned and sat down, a manager approached our table and loudly told her--in front of other diners--that "MEN cannot use the female restroom." My sister was mortified and humiliated by the public confrontation. The manager's tone and assumption were shocking and clearly discriminatory. We immediately got up and left without eating. This wasn't about enforcing any legitimate policy; it was rude, insensitive, and targeted. My adult sister is perfectly capable of reading the restroom signs herself--no one needed to police or shame her in such a way. The incident felt rooted in homophobia and transphobia from management. We will never return to this place, and we will actively discourage others--especially LGBTQ+ individuals and allies--from patronizing it. What should have been a joyful family milestone was ruined by bigotry. Avoid this establishment if you value respect and inclusivity. read more

Passing through the area and wanted to go somewhere authentic. We are originally planning to try L & C Café when our neighbor said we should try Kiki's instead. Very glad that we did as the food was excellent! Service was fairly standard. Beer and wine only. Wine margaritas. My wife and I just went with the draft XX beer. This salsa was too hot for my wife, so we ordered a small guacamole. The guacamole helps soothe the salsa out somewhat. My wife ordered their #1, two enchiladas and red sauce with a beef taco. I ordered their chicken enchiladas with green chili con queso. When the dishes arrived after the first two bites, my wife had to trade dishes with me as the red sauce was too spicy for her. Yum! The green chile con queso chicken enchiladas were so perfectly cheesy and came with a massive portion. I was surprised by how nice the "wine based" house margarita was. Light and refreshing. Despite us having a little difficulty finding where to park, this little restaurant packs quite the punch and is worth it. We had a lovely waitress, the wait for food wasn't very long. Today - 08.01.24 - what a wonderful way to bring in a new month. I came back here for the second time and had what were possibly the best cheese enchiladas I have ever had. If this was Once Upon A Time in Mexico, Johnny Depp would have strolled back to the kitchen and offed the chef - they were that delicious. The beans and rice - also life-changing. Come prepared for a wait, regardless of when you come. Just grab a beer at the bar and wait patiently with everyone else if there's a line. This is a locals' place. Hole in the wall, historic building, friendly family vibe. Very clean. The menu is crazy - soooo hard to decide what to order. We got a bowl of caldillo for a shared appetizer, and brisket machaca, picadillo, a beef burrito special for entrees. Best caldillo ever- full of green chile, tender beef, and comforting potatoes in a rich broth. Definitely try the acclaimed brisket machaca for a cheesy beefy experience. The picadillo was surprising with a scrumptious hard sear on the beef and a relatively dry texture - far different from the overcooked watery ground beef stews most places make. We came here because apparently it is a staple in El Paso. It has been around for ages. They are known for serving big plates of food for those that have been working outside. I am not sure why this place is so highly rated, because the food was not that good. The rice was good and the chips but the flautas were not, they had no flavor at all. Kiki's was recommended to me by a relative and I'm so glad I had a chance to go. A little off the beaten path (a good thing) and far from your chain of Mexican restaurants. I liked the old diner feel it has, from the old pictures in the wall to the football helmets on the counter. The service was spot on. I really like that they bring a small pitcher of whatever you're drinking along with your drink. I was told to get the Machaca (brisket). WOW That is a huge plate of goodness!! If I'm ever within a couple of hours of this place I go out of my way to come in. Parking sucks. Dining room is a bit old and run down. Service is mediocre. Make sure you come hungry. I just can't get behind a restaurant with no liquor license that sell/s "margaritas" that taste like 99% mix from the bottle and 1% mystery wine. The entire restaurant smells like floor cleaner, not pine sol, or bleach, just generic cleanser that may or may not be toxic. Shrimp cocktail is okay, and there's one beer on draft. Strange but the food was crazy ridiculously good! Had the special which was Steak Fajitas. The meat was tender with grilled tomatoes, onions and hatch chilies. This restaurant has been a staple in El Paso for many many years. I can remember coming here over 20+ years ago, listening to Art Lewis and his band play Jazz on Sunday's, and enjoying a plate of their eel owned machaca. Now, fast forward 20 years later, even though the smooth sounds of Jazz no longer fill the place on Sunday's, the restaurant is still delivers on its great Mexican food. Brisket tacos are stuffed with delicious meat and fried to a gentle crisp. The queso is beyond amazing and you can have it smothered all over your plate for a little extra charge. Lately I've been ordering the combo platters (somewhere underneath the queso in the pic) which are pretty generous, yet somehow I manage to lick the plate clean.
