Very poor quality aftercare. Have left numerous messages for the doctor to call and they still haven't after 8 tries. I gave up.

All was pleasant, professional and thorough. He gave me a tiny container of Vaseline (more than enough) for the excision site. I was called a couple of days later with reassuring words from the path report. The office is conveniently located and the parking lot ample, with ramps for mobility needs. Unlike many professional offices, the waiting room looks like a stylish, upscale yet unpretentious doctor's office, not a skincare products boutique. Dr. Rackett invited me to call for follow-up or new problems. I'd extend the same to you.

Reception told me that the dermatologist had set aside a specific amount of time for my appointment and that I would need to reschedule. I understood and rescheduled the appointment for a couple of days later. I attended the rescheduled appointment and paid my bill in full for the procedure at the office. At no point during my initial phone call, when I rescheduled, or when I was physically in the office for treatment was I told that I would be charged a no-show fee. This was especially confusing because I had called ahead to explain that I would be late and was instructed by the office to reschedule. Weeks later, I was charged a $50 fee for the original appointment. If there was a cancellation or late-arrival policy that applied in this situation, it should have been clearly communicated when I called or when I was in the office for my rescheduled appointment. I could have understood the charge if it had been explained at the time, but instead I received a message weeks later stating that finance charges would be applied to an unpaid no-show balance I was unaware of. Very disappointing experience. It feels like the practice is more interested in collecting $$ fees than treating patients fairly. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

It was an expensive cream that he had to get approval from my insurance company, but he was eagerly willing to do the paperwork to help me. Most can be treated with freezing. Recently, one of these 'potential' melanomas tested positive and was located along the top of my eyebrow, requiring Mohs surgery. I have had one other of these procedures on my cheek done by another dermatologist, and it left a pronounced hole that I have attempted to cover with my beard. However, the placement of this one was much more concerning as I imagined it leaving a gaping scar above my eye. My stepfather had one done on his forehead that was difficult to miss every time you looked at him. The Mohs procedure was quick and painless, with short waits to hear whether the test samples' margins were clear of cancer cells. Dr. Hick then did an amazing job of keeping the incision small, even though it required two attempts to clear all the margins. What I most want to brag about this professional is the care and time he took to suture with tiny thread, which, to my surprise, left me with a scar that very few people have noticed. I am impressed by his demeanor, knowledge, and skills as a physician. I highly recommend Dr. Jeffery Hick to anyone seeking a skilled dermatologist.

I didn't feel like they were listening, first of all, then, I never found out what the spots were from either of the places I had been, or what caused them, (one guy said it was from the sun, no other explanation. Just, The Sun.), while his nurse assistant annoyingly twiddled around on her phone. Another place kept me waiting, said they did a cancer screening, (but I never got undressed?) In short, I was more than unhappy and the results were far from acceptable. UNTIL, that is, I went to see Dr. Rackett. In a short visit, he checked every inch of my skin for a cancer screening, and we DISCUSSED the results. That hadn't been done at previous places. Then, he FROZE off the scary dry spots (results in 1-2 weeks), TOLD ME what they were, and a little about them, gave me a pamphlet to read about it and was, in general, a super nice guy! At the end, he even asked me if there was anything else he could do! I mean, WOW!! So-- I would not only go back to see him again, I would recommend his office to anyone with skin issues. Truly. Everyone in the office was really great. Thank you!!

I'll start with the good. Parking was easy, the building is nice, the office was easy to find, and…read moreoverall the facility itself is great. Unfortunately, my experience inside the office was a completely different story. From the minute I walked in, something just felt off. The first person who greeted me at the front desk simply asked, "What's your name?" No hello, no welcome, no "How are you?" Just straight to business. I actually said, "Hey, how are you doing?" and had to repeat myself. It almost seemed like he was surprised that I was asking how he was doing. It might sound like a small thing, but first impressions matter, especially in a medical office. A simple "Hi, welcome in" goes a long way. The office was also extremely quiet. I didn't see any other patients, there wasn't much going on, and the same elevator-type music seemed to be playing on a loop. I sat in the lobby for about five minutes while I could see staff talking in the back. Eventually, someone came out and brought me into an exam room. This is where things became even more uncomfortable. I was told to undress and stand on a white cloth because the floor was cold. No gown or robe was offered. I had to specifically ask for one, and the response was basically that they normally don't give patients one. I said I wanted one, and they eventually gave me one. That was a big red flag for me. If you're asking someone to undress for an exam, providing some type of covering seems like a pretty basic patient-comfort thing. Then the doctor came in with another person holding an iPad. I had no idea who she was at first. I asked and was told she was there to help document everything. Maybe that's standard for this office, but when someone is potentially about to examine you while you're undressed, I think an introduction and explanation beforehand would be appropriate. At that point, I had already made up my mind. I wasn't comfortable getting undressed or doing a full exam. I stayed dressed, asked the doctor to look at the two specific things I came in for, and kept the visit short. When I checked out, they asked if I wanted to schedule another appointment because the doctor wanted to see me again in 30 days. I declined. But here's the part that really sealed it for me. About 30 minutes after I left, I actually called the office because I wanted to give the doctor feedback directly rather than just go online and write a review. I asked to speak with her and was told she wasn't available. I left my phone number and asked for a callback. They even asked what the call was about, and I specifically said I wanted to provide feedback about my experience. I never received a call back. That was red flag number four. The frustrating part is that none of my concerns were about the building, parking, or even the doctor's medical knowledge. It was the overall experience and the lack of basic communication and warmth. Say hello when someone walks in. Explain what's going to happen before asking them to undress. Offer them something to cover themselves with. Introduce the additional person entering the exam room. And if a patient calls afterward specifically wanting to provide feedback, at least acknowledge the call. Those little things matter. I left feeling less like a patient and more like I was just being moved through a process. And when I tried to give the office an opportunity to hear that feedback directly, nobody called me back. Based on my experience, I won't be returning, and with the number of dermatologists available throughout Torrance and the South Bay, I personally wouldn't recommend this office.
