Don't go here, go to Stewart's meats or somewhere else. We bought a big steak/meat package from this business back in January. I got loads of ground beef, ground pork, and steaks because I do so much meal prepping. We got it all frozen, probably spent well over $300. Everything in our entire order was rancid. Brown and smells absolutely god awful. I've waited many months to give them the benefit of the doubt and see if any of it was good. It was not. I even went to Stewart's meats out in Roy (where we normally buy big meat packages from) and did a test trial. Let them defrost in the fridge for a day or so. Northwest meats was brown and had a foul odor, Stewart's meats was juicy with blood and no odor at all. Conclusion made. They sold us rotten meat. Not cool for the food industry. Have some standards. That could have made someone really sick had they not known and eaten any of it. read more

We love shopping at Northwest Meats. The service there is excellent and they are open seven days a week!

The last time I was in town, I tried another meat shop that was Hispanic run. I dig that fact that these minority businesses are popping up to fill a void left by butchers and markets of the past. Not only do you get quality meats, you also get pre-marinaded Mexican meats that make for tasty and easy barbecue or grilling. The store was on the small side, but big enough to stock necessities. I really wanted to try some marinaded meats, but I wasn't sure when I would make it home and didn't feel safe buying it. Next time I'm in town, I'll pack a cooler to make it safe. I did buy salsa and jerky. The salsa was pretty good, slightly smokey and slightly charred. I would buy the salsa again, but I was not impressed with the Smokehouse Jerky it was too sweet and not salty enough. Smoked jerky should have a rich flavor, not taste like candy. They had many flavors to choose from and I don't think anyone should sell jerky or Pepperoni without samples, it's too risky for the consumer and it this case, it lowers your review. Olympia is maybe a 2-3 time stop per year, so it will be a while before I return. I liked this place way better than Cutz, but again, the Smokehouse Jerky was a fail. I'll try the original next time, whenever that may be. read more

My husband and I are used to meat markets nearby and we immediately noticed that this place smells so much better. They have a wide range of meats. We purchased two beautiful ribeye steaks, some goat meat and also some lamb meat. Definitely amazing. Quality meat and great prices! Terrible place to buy your food. First time in there and their quality control was terrible. They've got moldy food out on their shelves FOR SALE!! I was so excited they had tamales I bought a pack... only to get home and read the dates PACKED 11/10/2021 TODAY IS THE 28th! And there is MOLD GROWING IN THEM!! Like literally fuzzy green and white mold all over it. It's not just a 'spot on the corn husk' it's strait MOLD. Seriously disgusting. This is a butcher but also a dense little shop with delicious snacks, prepared foods, and one-off items you may have forgotten during your regular grocery shopping. I've gotten their chorizo, which I find really flavorful without being overpowering in a dish. I've also gotten things for hosting barbecues like ground beef for burgers, and the people working are really helpful in answering questions that I think they probably think are dumb. There's also some various marinated items that always look fresh and good. They also have a selection of frozen meat, including ground pork, which I wanted for making a Chinese dinner, but couldn't find at the regular grocery. There's a few grilling items they don't have like brats or other sausages. The best thing I like to get here are the tamales. There's a few different varieties and my favorite is the cheese and pepper. I've also seen them making the guac fresh, and it looks great. I have yet to try that though as they come in big tubs. I also like that they have little impulse items like Takis or tres leches cake. I've been spoiled by the prices I've known the last few years, in a Mexican neighborhood in the Midwest, so I find these smaller items overpriced here, but have been willing to pay for the convenience. A butcher isn't a place I would normally feel qualified to review, but I'm glad to have this little shop close by as it's more than that! read more

Called during business hours to ensure they were still in business due to virus mess. No answer, left message. Two days later, needing meat to smoke for moms day, called again since didn't get a return call. Got someone who wasn't too friendly. Stopped in and grabbed last chunk or tri tip. Must have been same guy. Not rude, but certainly not appreciating my business. Update: just opened the package and wasn't thrilled with the huge amount of fat. Probably at least 1.5 lbs of fat on 3.70 lb tritip. Yes, some fat is definitely good- very necessary for a good cook. But not nearly 50%. Won't be back. read more

Wow wow wow wow wow!!! I was at the adjacent convenience store, saw the butcher was open, and decided to check it out. I bought a small wagyu cut on sale just for myself for the evening and...O. M. G! I don't think I've ever had a better steak in all my life, and I'm a huge steak consumer. What an incredibly tender and gorgeous cut of meat. Kudos to the butcher because it cooked so evenly and beautifully, retaining juices. I honestly wish I hadn't seasoned it because it had so much natural flavor on its own. Thank you to that cow. I really want to support this business. I've been looking for a butcher to buy local meats from. However, employees NEED to wear masks when they go door-to-door selling "steak packages". An older white man in his 60s who said he worked for Northwest Meats blocked the way back into my apartment as I was coming home. he was also not wearing a mask, and was WAY too close to me. He tried to sell me some sort of "steak bundle". I am a young woman with domestic violence-related PTSD. I do not do well with strange men blocking the way to my home, which is my safe place. I literally could not think of anything but getting around him and locking the door. BUT being said, I checked out the website and it looks legit, and worth a try. read more

After 3 visits to Northwest Meats, we can definitely recommend this butcher.  This tiny butcher shop offers a lot of bang for your buck. Prices are reasonable and the staff is very helpful and friendly.   The tri tip is outstanding and priced great with not too much fat.  The Cordon Bleu is great when you don't want to fuss too much with dinner. 350° F for 35 minutes, served with some veggies or a salad. Super easy. The marinated carne asada taco meat is amazing. I stir fry it, serve it with warm corn tortillas, green salsa and a wedge of lime.  We look forward to trying the other marinated meats too.  Moving forward,  we will be purchasing most of our meat from North West Meats. Holy smokes, this place is phenomenal. Now I have a place to get high quality, locally sourced meat without forking over an arm and a leg (see what I did there?). For our first shopping experience, it was an inter-generational field trip from Tacoma with my mom and my daughter, who is 18. We're all converts and we will all be shopping at North West Meats exclusively, in spite of it being 20 miles away from home. Made chorizo first, then the pork adobada. SO. AMAZING. Got a text from my dad letting me know that for their dinner he had the thickest and most delicious pork chop of his life. And then he reinforced that means it was very good because he is very old! With a cute pig emoji to punctuate his declaration. The staff is great, the pricing was so competitive, and the quality is better than anything I can get close to home. My husband and I LOVE This place! Friendly staff, very customer service oriented, and the meat is DELICIOUS! We have been here 3 times already to get their California-style carne asada.... sooooo GOOD! We always fight over who is going to finish the last bits! Every time we have walked in here everyone is happy, helpful, and willing to answer any questions we have! Convenient location, too! Ohhh and did I mention the samples of salsas, cheeses, mixes... I love this place! It's now my go to butcher whenever I need great quality meat. They have a good selection and their cuts of meat are great. They also have good grass fed ribeyes for a good price. Their homemade chorizo is delicious and the marinated kalbi is my favorite, which is wonderfully marbled. When I first walked in they offered me a free sample to take home to try. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The inside is also kept at a cool temperature and is very clean. Unlike some nearby butcher shops that smell a bit off. So i first went to this place because all the reviews online were awesome. But dude, when i got in the store I was pretty effing happy. Everything was clean and the meats were just nicely cut and presented. The wife and I looked for what we needed and got it, we also ended up getting a little bit more for dinner of course lol the staff is really knowledgeable about their meats and cuts. They even mentioned the different USDA gradings and as expected we got prime cuts the best part was when we went to check out, the owner helped us out and even offer both of us a shirt of their T-REX NORTH WEST MEATS cus I mentioned how cooled they look . When you walk in you are greeted by staff who are always eager to help you and assist you in finding the meats that you may like. If they don't have what you want? Ya let me know and they special order it for you. The freshness of the meats beats Safeway and Costco, although one ping for me was the size of the cuts for the steaks. I honestly can't downgrade that to a four star for just having the biggest steaks anywhere around here! Small store, but PACKED with all sorts of meat selections (fresh & frozen). And the chorizo that they make in-house is some of the best out there.
