This review aims towards the perception of its weekend night life. So I went on a Saturday night and literally walked in then out in an elapse time of 5 minutes. Im new to Chicago, moved from Miami about 3 weeks ago of this post. Born and raised in NY Washington Heights (Central of the Dominicans). Upon walk-in its a small open area then a bar. It was like 1am and Im like "Why is this place so empty? Like less than 10 people. I notice other people walking in towards the back and behold...thats where the dance-floor was located. WELCOME TO THUG CENTRAL. Hoodies, fitteds, bandanas, sneakers, 17 yr olds....Im Like oh hell no. The DJ had tracks from 1995. This was a major embarrassment. Since the population of Dominicans here is 1.5% it makes sense. Ill return to try the food at another time setting. **Yelp should have separate El Sitio accounts (One to rate it as a Restaurant Non-Night life hours and another account to rate it as a Bar-Club nightlife. Great place (I'm not sure if it's a lounge/bar/restaurant/ball room/reception room, but it's large) for authentic Dominican food. I enjoyed everything I had. The tostones are the best I have ever eaten here in the States. Their known for the Pica Pollo, so that's what I ate. Very good fried chicken, a bit too bony for my liking but tasty. They also offer you three different types of rice and bean types, amazing! Prices are not bad with $8-10 for an entree and the portions are HUGE allowing you to take left overs home. Please be advised that the neighborhood around the restaurant isn't the best at night. Something that is so family Latino is how the older man (most likely the owner) sits at the front of the restaurant with random friends and family and chats the night away. At the same time, he watches outside for any drama or perilous activities. Everyone was really sweet and truly Dominicano. Best part are the large screen TVs that project a channel directly from the Dominican Republic. If it weren't for the location, it would probably be packed. read more

I came here on a rainy Friday night with a friend. Yelpers were raving about their Pica Pollo so that is what we ordered. I also ordered one of their fruit (non-alcoholic) drinks. I'm hard pressed to remember what it is but it really wasn't that special. I asked the waiter about the fruit drinks, asking what the differences are and he really couldn't tell me. He was at least able to tell me which one most people order. The music was insanely LOUD. We were the only table having dinner that evening. There was another long table playing cards and chatting it up which I'm assuming were the servers and their friends. Two HDTV's were showing wrestling and other sports events. Our food took FOREVER to arrive and the service was lousy. When I say FOREVER I mean around 45 minutes to an hour. That is ridiculous for a place that is not busy. Fried chicken really isn't my fare so I thought it was okay. It really doesn't look like your standard drumstick, wing, breast cuts - seriously strange cuts. The portion sizes were generous for the price (I believe it was $8 for a gigantic portion of food). It came with a salad which was okay. The neighborhood is a bit shady even for me. There were dudes holla-ing at chicks walking their babies across the street. Wow. Probably won't go back. Sorry! read more

This is going to look suspicious, but 5 stars all the way! The food is AWESOME. And the portions are huge. You can eat twice, really. I rec the Bistec Encebollado (steak with onions... and green pepper with rice and your choice of beans -- pinto is yum). I've also had their Pollo Guisado. I think it's called Guiso, though. I don't remember. I've tried the fried chicken, which is also really good. I've gone during off peak times, so it's been empty and relatively quick service. Everyone who walks in says hi to you in the spirit of the hospitable Dominican ways... though they are not very formal there. It's like chilling at someone's house. I guess they have a big area in the back for dancing, but I've never been. The area is a bit run down but don't let it scare you off! read more

This place is amazing! The decor is really nice and the owner... I thought we were cousins! He was so extremely friendly! I played hookie from work to go and get some Dominican food that I didn't have to cook myself... the owner right away asked "Are you Dominican?" All I could do was smile, no one has guessed my ethnicity correctly since I moved to the Midwest! He shared a shot of Brugal with me and we ended up playing Dominoes while I ordered everything off the menu.. So friendly, local Dominican channels on the TV, the food is AUTHENTIC, try everything, mostly the chicken and pork, lol! I love this place people are warm and friendly and the atmosphere is nice. I usually have come there on Sunday nights and the karaoke is entertaining. The food is scrumptious if you like Latino food. I love the salad, the flavors in it are so delicious and I am not a typical salad enthusiast. I'm hoping that this place grows and other locations open up in the suburbs. I live in Palatine and I travel there to Chicago just to feel like I'm in the Dominican Republic. Thanks to the owner who strive and succeeded with such a wonderful place. read more

This may be the only place I've ever seen on Yelp that had an average (at the time I first saw it) of all five stars. When you see that, your reaction is either "Fake! Planted reviews!" or "I got to get up in that," depending on your faith in humanity. I chose the latter. I feel bad for being the first review not to five-star El Sitio. I wanted to give it five stars. I'm an optimist. I want everyone to be happy. I want to do nothing but heap praise. So I'll at least start out by saying that the meal was nothing short of kick-ass. We got the Pico Pollo, their signature dish, an awesome take on fried chicken, with fried plantain chips. I will go so far as to say that their fried chicken is among the best I've had in the city. The spice profile is distinctively different from any fried chicken I've had. What was interesting was that it was all cut up in such a way that you can't really tell what part of the chicken you're eating. Sounds weird but it was kinda fun, like you're being forced to think about chicken in a new light. The plantain chips are tasty as can be. We also got the yucca simmered with red onions, and man oh Manischevitz, that stuff is good. Yucca is awesome. It's like "nature's potato." So, yeah, the meal was pretty terrific. Not five stars, but four stars. Nothing about the meal was mind-blowingly off-the-charts, but it was a lot of very delicious food for very reasonable prices. The next star comes off due to the service. We went on a super-gloomy rainy Friday, and when we went in, the place was empty. Dead. One other table, apparently full of friends of the owners and / or staff. Now, under such conditions, I think it's reasonable to expect that: - The food should not take forty minutes to arrive. - We shouldn't have to flag down someone to bring us our left-over containers. - We shouldn't have to go to the counter to get the check. Now, the service wasn't rude, mind you. The staff was for the most part very friendly. But they seemed more interested in singing along with the loud Dominican music and watching pro wrestling with their friends than taking care of the one table they had for the night. Also weird was that one of the servers wouldn't put things on the table. I'm eating my chicken and I have to put it down because he's holding my Diet Coke up for me to take. WTF huh? But the food was great, the portions were huge and the prices were very nice. So I can't say I wouldn't go back. It's just, you have to know what you're in for. Was hungry & seeking something different saw this little spot & thought Caribbean, why the heck not?? We ordered water to start & was given water that seemingly came out of some sort of filtered device. The water had a really distinctive rubber hose taste to it. When the salad came it appeared simple enough, lettuce & sliced tomato. I asked for a dressing & was told it was already on it, okay great. I was told that it was a house blend of vinegar, oil, & lime but what I was able to discern was olive oil with a splash of vinegar. I think my salad is still on the table something about oily lettuce just didn't sit well on my palate. Drinks! Ordered a passion fruit punch for myself & it was cool but the drink the gentleman behind the bar whipped up for me...yes chile more please! He said it was X Rated, pineapple juice & a splash of vodka. Loved it! The entrees! Order the red snapper in the coconut sauce I requested the Spanish rice but got white rice with beans. I didn't make fuss b/c the beans were so good, an excellent complement to the red snapper. This fish was well cooked & seasoned. You must try the snapper! We also ordered a plate of fries ( my son) which came out room temperature so not exactly the most appetizing especially being that they were steak fries. The last dish was the pollo guisada (excuse my spelling) it was a stewed chicken which would've been perfect if it wasn't also luke warm, perfectly seasoned, tender, juicy, everything you would have hoped for in a HOT chicken dish. The Spanish rice was served with the chicken & it was fresh & delicious. I deducted stars b/c: 1 That salad was horrid! 2 Why can't you serve a decent glass of water? 3 Did you realize we all ate in our coats & hats? It was cold in there! If you're in the area sure stop in, but I'm sorry I couldn't recommend that you make a trip to visit El Sitio. read more

The sign on there said that the place was open, but the lights didn't seem to indicate so. The owner or cook let us in and told us that he was going to close the place down early since the weather was kind of crappy out and he wasn't getting a lot of business. I guess we opened the place up for dinner. It's a huge place, and it seems like it could be pretty happening over the weekends. It would be a great place to have a party. They do have karoake, and a dj there on the weekends. The interior of the place was casual, warm and inviting. The prices for the entrees range from $10 to $20. It seems to be pretty authentic Dominican food. The hot cocoa here is phenomenal - I wonder how in the world I can get this recipe. I had the passion fruit juice drink and we started out with a salad that was pretty simple yet unique and tasty. It was just lettuce tomatoes and slightly cooked green peppers that gave the salad a flavor of that with a light sauce that wasn't super vinegary tasting. They are known for their fried chicken and tostones. I got the beef with the Puerto Rican rice. I loved how tender the meat was. The tostones were probably the best I've ever had - so crispy and like a step above french fries. If only the place was closer I would order out from there a lot, and if I do happen to be passing by again I will definitely pick up to go! read more

Unlike La Alianza Deportiva Dominicana, which was a kinda a fire hazard, among other things, El Sitio is different- bar/restaurant (overpriced and not too good) plus dance floor and all the bachata bumpin you could possibly handle. A bachatero from NYC came a couple months ago....The place is surviving well. A little pricey for drinks (Brugal/Presidente), but they gotta maintain the place! The atmosphere is of course more formal than the last spot, but that's ok. Now your surroundings merit your outfit, ladies! read more

El Sitio is the shit. I spent some time in The Dominican Republic, and every time I order food from here it takes me back. The cooking is authentic, everything is fresh. The spot has beautiful exposed brick and a really great sound system. I went to a couple parties here last summer and it was a good time. The owner is real cool, always there, super nice. El Sitio is a great "kick back" spot and you can have fun for less. The drinks are not that expensive ($5 for brugal/coke), the food is GREAT and cheap (bistec c/moro negro $9 (well-porportioned)). They play the BEST dominican music in town. You cannot go anywhere and listen to Palo, merengue ripiao and bachata all night! I LOVE EL SITIO!!!! FYI....Ozzie Guillen has been there and also caters from there when he goes on away games. They have something for almost every day of the week: MONDAY: closed; TUESDAY: depending on the Tuesday they have parties; WEDNESDAY: relax day; THURSDAY: breakdancing night; FRIDAY: hip-hop night; SATURDAY: merengue/bachata night; SUNDAY: karaoke night. If you're looking for an authentic Latin experience this is where you go. This is how it is in Latin American countries when it comes to going out for evening of dancing and drinks. People are pretty down to earth and just looking to dance and enjoy the evening. That is what this place is known for. They have great music and good dancers. The drinks are fairly cheap compared to many places and it's casual attire. Not the best neighborhood, but like anywhere else just have to be careful and take precaution. read more

Excellent! Their location in West Humboldt Park leaves much to be desired (in safety terms) but their Pica Pollo (Fried Chicken) which comes in a large party plate with plantains was delicious. Waitress was very friendly and the "Domincan Horchata" was good but too sweet. read more

The service was slow and we were the only people in the restaurant. The people were very friendly .The drinks were good and they did not use common liquor in their drinks. They used liquor that was authentic from latin countries. The food was delicious and very authentic. The salad was great with a lime twist of salad dressing. I had never tasted a salad like this before. The pollo was great and the arroz was soooo good. The sweet plantains were moist and very good. The portions were a good size.
