This is one of these places that once I saw it, I knew it was going to be good. The smaller places that are usually low key. Are the ones with the good food. Great food that's flavorful and authentic. I grabbed food to go. But there was a decent amount of people having dinner. It smelled amazing when I waked in. Young man who was in the counter was friendly and helpful in attending me. It also looked very clean and some beautiful colorful decor. Do yourself a favor and STOP going to the place down the block "El Rancho" for " Mexican " food. That's not authentic, & it's way over priced for wack food, in my opinion. So one random morning it was all about the tacos so we came here to see what was all good in it's own way. Of the taco choices I went with a chicken and a chorizo the chicken one was yummy it had a good flavor to it the verde salsa was good but kinda lacked any spice but the flavor of it made up for that and it went well with the rest of it. The chorizo taco was ok definitely not the best chorizo I've had but not the worst it was just ok and definitely not as good as the chicken one was. The quesadilla was interesting as it was a few corn tortillas put together to make it this is something I haven't seen very much before but it was perfect for sharing this way and that's exactly what we wanted to do with it, the flavors were all there the asada was good for what it was but definitely not the best I've had and the guacamole and sour cream on the side are always a good zest to anything that comes about. One thing I didn't like here is how the cashier tried to upsell us chips and salsa kinda playing it off as if it were free the way it should be as that's not the case here even after we spent quite a bit. Overall the chicken tacos were yummy the quesadillas weren't bad and this was just a mellow little visit but I don't think I'd venture back just for a chicken taco. read more

We choose a booth but they have tables if that's your preference. Our food came out pretty quickly and was perfect. The food was hot, and the presentation was on point. We stopped by El Sol Express for the first time and were very impressed with the food and service. I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the mixed reviews on YELP, but we were close by and enjoy El Sol, so we gave it a try. Service was very friendly and happy to make recommendations. Even though it is counter service, the staff stopped by our table to check on us after we received our food. The menu is extensive for an express place, but they were able to deliver solid food. Yes, the word express, is in the name, but they are making the orders, so some time will be needed since items are not just sitting under a heat lamp. Chips and salsa are not complimentary, but they did refill our basket for free! I tried the taco trio platter (carnitas and carne asada) and was very pleased with the flavor and cooking of the meat-Very good. My wife had the Enchiladas Verde and loved the chicken ones. She actually commented that she thought the food tasted better here than at the main restaurant downtown. While the food and service were spot on, the entire place needs a good thorough cleaning! I get it is an express place, but the quality of food is above the atmosphere that is observed. I think they gave me light red sauce since it was to go and it would get soggy otherwise. The caviche was fine though. If you are new to spanish/latin food I think this would be a very accessible and low stress introduction. The reason I bought up my aunt is because she is the pickiest eater I know, so if she is happy with the food and service of a place I know it is going to be great! Good rule of thumb: If the parking lot is completely empty, that's probably a sign of how good the business is. Theres a lot to pick from on the menu. They have everything from burritos to salads to full entrees. I ended up getting the Tacos Rancheros (they have Chorizo) and my gf ended up getting the Salsa Verde Burrito. Mediocre is the only thing that comes to mind when describing the food. I grew up with latin food. I was hooping this was going to be a little taste of home but it absolutely was not. The burrito was the only the only decent part of this meal. The food was actually luke warm and just ended up getting cold after a few minutes. So as you can see im not the biggest fan. Probably not going to come back any time soon. My meal in it's entirety cost around $30. Which included chips, salsa, the tacos, the burrito and two soft drinks. El Sol is a decent Mexican restaurants. They have typical Mexican dishes (enchiladas, burritos, etc.) and their portion is pretty big. I ordered their gaucamole and it could have been better and presented nicer (it comes in a dish. A bowl would help more.) Their meat are flavorful and tender but most of their food (fried bean, rice, guac) need more seasoning. Plus points: they have a salsa bar which is cool. I have been to El Sol in downtown Harrisburg and loved the food - I was leaving Target and saw this. I was very happy!! I am from California and PA's version of mexican food in most restaurants is less than desired (since when does Mexico use American cheese). So, went on in and got the Verde Burrito with steak . . . so good and so much steak. Guac, sour cream and pico de gallo on the side. The services is great and very happy! Soooo happy to find this place as my go to for mexican food in the area. I wish I would have taken a picture of my beautiful food - it was worthy of their full restaurant.
