I am visiting PA and picked up dinner from El Sol. The food was decent. I was surprised that my meal didn't come with chips/salsa. That is standard in WA where I am from. My 3 enchiladas, plus sour cream and a personal size chips/salsa was $14.18. I didn't think that was unreasonable. The chips were awesome, enchiladas were good, but a little Luke warm after driving them back to hotel. The serving was quite generous. The staff was friendly and they took all the covid procedures into account. The dining room was cold though during winter. The fajitas tasted good, but the chicken quesadillas and burritos were made with what seemed to be canned shredded chicken. The white queso was also very basic, lacking spice. This is a great Mexican restaurant to pop in. Definitely upscale from moes or chipotle but more relaxed than a regular sit down Mexican restaurant. Everyone loved their food and their chips and salsa that we ordered were great. Only downside were the salsas on the salsa bar seemed to be slightly watered down/not as fresh as the salsa we ordered. I gave up on chipolte since they can not get a take out order correct no how.. all they care about is getting people in and out asap. Now, for my review of this place. much better than chipolte, great food at good price. clean, nice atmosphere etc. its a little further than chipolte but worth the extra 10 minute drive. Chipolte seems to be the hipster place to go to because its trendy and if that is all you are in to, good for you. Stopped in after work for a bite. We know El Sol and frequent their down town location. This is a smaller menu but the food was the same quality. Very good! Had the guac & chips ranchero tacos, chorizo & carnitas. also tried a cup of the chicken poblano soup. not bad! so we had apps, soup and a plate of tacos each for $20. a steal imho. They have a salsa bar with some really interesting flavors. try a few!! Also u can bring your own tequila to add to the frozen margaritas mix they have on tap. I love this place. I crave their roasted jalapeño salsa. Best salsa bar, ever. If you are there on a day the tamales are the special . . . get the tamales. Grab a menu when you walk in the door and order at the counter (like a pizza place), they'll give you a number to put at your table, and then bring your food out--quite quickly, I might add. The food is excellent. Fresh ingredients done right. The menu is not as extensive as El Sol proper, but in no way is it a limited menu--great variety of different enchiladas, tacos, burritos, salads and other items. Plus they have a free salsa bar. I've been to this El Sol Express twice. Let me start by saying my husband has enjoyed both times, sad not me. The first time I order a salad with shrimp. I like some spicy, but the shrimp literally burns my tongue . My husband brought the salad back explaining the problem. They did not offer to exchange for something different. After that I couldn't eat anyway because my tongue was burned. :( The second time was last night and I order cheese enchiladas. How do you screw up cheese enchiladas? They managed to do so. The cheese on top was melted but the inside wasn't melted at all. It was cold. So I my mind I can see the cook assembling the enchiladas and sticking the plate under a heat source. It was really bad bd as far as I am concerned I am not going back. The decor was very nice and so were the staff,.... Still not enough to bring me back. :( read more

Great menu with lots of choices. Got the fish tacos which were very good and with refried beans, rice and small salad on side. Corn chips were fresh and the salsa that went with it was nice. Restaurant feels and looks clean as well. The salsa bar was interesting. I liked some of the choice others I didn't care for at all. There was one salsa, a hot chili salsa that was fermenting, with actual bubbles in my little cup of salsa. I mentioned this to the two gentlemen up front and they assured me that it shouldn't be fermented as they make their salsa fresh. I don't doubt that they do but for some reason this salsa was definitely past it's prime but it was not removed from the bar. I felt like they kind I blew me off. I'm not sure if anyone actually tasted the salsa or I am sure they would have noticed. My girlfriend notice immediately just from the smell (like wine) and the bubbles. read more

This is the best Mexican food I have had in the Harrisburg/Hershey area! El Sol in downtown Harrisburg and it's sub-branch El Sol Express are just phenomenal! The service is always friendly and they are willing to answers any questions. I think the space is cute and clean, and love the BYOB tequila for margaritas! As for the food, I have sampled a good portion of the foods (been there several times). Foods worth mentioning: The Guacamole appetizer is the best damn Guac I've had ever, and is big enough for a meal itself! The fish tacos were excellent, very flavorful with a good heat to them! Lastly, the vegetarian burrito I had was good, but something tasted funky. I'm not sure if it was the spices or the sauce, but it was odd. My boyfriend always gets the trio of tacos and has thoroughly enjoyed all of them! As for some of the other reviews...compared to Chipotle, Neato Burrito (one of my faves), and Moe's...I'd ake El Sol over them any day! This truly is homemade cooked to order food. As Americans, we are not accustomed to true Mexican food and I think that's were some people may have not enjoyed their experience. Overall, the price is cheap for the amount of food you get, the space is clean, and the service friendly. Would definitely recommend to others, and I will be returning! read more

And the food - oh my gosh - the food was so good! Everything is made fresh, and the salsa was phenomenal! I was shocked to find such authentic Mexican food in Harrisburg, but this is the real deal. I just had a horrible first time experience at this restaurant and it was basically because of the woman taking our order! She was very abrupt and acted like we were holding up the line because I had 3 separate orders. I would assume that this is a good thing but maybe that's just me. We waited patiently on the line for about ten minutes, Never complained and was polite when we approached the register. My questions were answered abruptly by the lady taking our order with a sigh and a click of her gum! However, when I was done ordering and took a seat the lady behind us that was next in line (who was of another race, yes I just threw the race card), was greeted with friendliness from the same gum clicking woman. She was also offered a discount on her food and a free fried ice cream for "waiting" because "good things come to those who wait". I guess we weren't good enough for a discount or something free for waiting. Me giving our order took less than 10 minutes and that was partly because she walked away and busied herself with other things while I was giving my order. Whilst sitting there after ordering my food (that was not all that good) I heard the same gum clicking lady be oh so very friendly with everyone else that came up to the register. Once again I'm throwing the race card! This is so sad!! I'm not sure if this lady is the manager or owner but I feel that she should take a step away from the register and do something else because her customer skills are not good! In my opinion!! I was really surprised at how fresh and delicious the food was. I didn't have high expectations for a casual restaurant, but it was great! We got fajitas-steak, chicken and shrimp, another steak dish, guacamole and chips. The chips were hot and crispy. The guacamole chunky and fresh. The fajitas were perfectly seasoned and cooked with lots of veggies, the tortillas were soft and warm. The employees were friendly and packed everything well.
