She always insists that they have the best produce and to tell you the truth I never really paid attention until today. They had so many vegetables that I can't find anywhere else . Maybe the Asian grocery stores but not just regular grocery stores . Thats is really important for somebody who cooks the dishes from around the world . I feel like I'm back in Mexico again walking in here! I got a wave of nostalgia as I waltzed in that day. I grew up in LA, but as a child, I'd visit family in Guadalajara Mexico and go here with my cousins. They have products usually only found in Mexico, freshly baked Mexican breads, tortillas, made from scratch guacamole, fresh Mexican cheeses, and other goodies. Compared to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, this place is extremely low priced. You can get enough groceries for a week for very, very little money. The cons----the meat is not the best here. The meat and fish department has a pungent odour. You can tell its not the best quality, which is why it's dirt cheap. The customer service is hit or miss. Most employees are very friendly and polite. A few cashiers did not seem to enthusiastic, but the bakery people were incredibly kind. It's a great place to get some decent breads, cheap veggies and fruits and basics like tuna cans, mayo, cheese at a low price. Worth it ! read more

Was in the checkout line and saw one of the managers yelling at the poor cashiers. It was embarrassing for everyone and made all the customers feel disgusted with the treatment of their workers. We alternate between El Super, Costco and Portos for the cakes we get our employees on their birthdays. This store is very close to work. It is open early. It has ample parking and staff. Employees are always willing to help. The cakes are a very good bargain. A small cake to feed 10 guys is $9.99. A medium like the Mocha to feed 15 guys is $13.99. The 1/4 sheet "white chocolate" we get is good enough for our day shift of 30 guys. It is very generously priced at $21.99. Tres leches 1/4 sheet is $23.99. The cakes do their job. We show our appreciation to our employees and every one at our work satisfies their sweet tooth in the process :) I have once shopped for other items (party supplies) and the store seems to be adequately stocked and sufficiently organized. El Super is a grocery store right next door to Target in South Gate. When we first moved to the area, we drove by and my usually-incredibly-intelligent husband blurts out "Oh, wow, an El *SUPER* Target." Huge eye roll moment for me. First of all, the big ass sign out front has the Target logo and its name *above* the *separate* El Super sign. Second, and most obviously, they are separate stores. We still joke about it almost every time we drive by. This is one of very few Hispanic grocery stores I had never been to in the area until recently (8/1/19) - and they're headquarted in Paramount, CA which is just up the road from me. It's not bad. It wasn't my favorite either, though. They have everything you might need for a stop and go. Their produce is mostly good, but you're warned: it stays crowded in this section. I don't understand why people get hired to do cashier work but won't even do the minimum, as to say hello goodnight thank you nothing. I was helped by Dafne she would much rather talk to her coworkers standing beside her about the situation of the virus going on instead of providing good service. When I go to pay my things she just scanned the items I asked for a bag she scans the bag charges me I pay with my phone and it took her a few seconds to realize receipt printed out and then just rips it off and extends her hand out to me wo saying a word Expecting me to reach and grab the receipt, like if you can't even have common courtesy and are to lazy to even extend out your hand for a receipt and say "here you go" lady you have a looooooong way to go when it comes to service I wonder what happened at your previous jobs, in sure they let you go because of your outstanding people skills. This has got to be the worse supermarket in the area. I have had my bad experince with their meats being spoiled. Their meat dept always stinks so bad. I only go their for milk, juice and packed items. Wife wanted some fruits and vegtables last night and came to this. Empty bins, old almost rotten vegtables when their sign says "Fresh". I think I will make that extra drive from now on to Vallarta, their selection is way better and their market is always clean and organized. read more

Went to El Super today to purchase some groceries and some bread. I usually don't go to El Super as I used to, as I've had so many unpleasant experience there. As usual the place was crowded and hence I was in a hurry to get out of there. I no longer buy any kind of meat there as the meat, specially the beef smells bad and when you reheat the chicken or beef it tastes rancid and quite disgusting. We were going to cook enchiladas the next day and so I bought chicken. I usually buy meat at ALDI across the street but I was in a hurry so I bought it there. As I was getting ready to put my groceries in my trunk I noticed a long black hair inside the plastic wrapping of the chicken and I was so upset and disgusted. I went back to the store and showed the package to the store manager and she gave me a refund. What is most upsetting is that at no time did she apologize nor did she say that they would be more careful in the future. This shows me they don't care and could care less regarding their cleanliness. Customers deserve better and I will definitely stay away from this store. read more

And a little TIP for even better deals, they have sales on Wednesdays on a lot of their produce. * Most of their products are Mexican or Latin Products, why because it is a Hispanic market. * They have a Meat Market. It can get busy and at times smelly, but you don't have to wait around for that, get some other shopping done; just get your number, walk away and listen for them to call you. * They have a Bakery. Fresh bread and tortillas. * They Even have a section where they have fresh cheeses and salsas. Of course if you expect to find other products that you'd normally see in your local supermarkets I don't recommend you go here. First because you won't find a big selection on such items and second, whatever you do find will be more pricey. There is plenty of Parking but just like anywhere you go the closer to the entrance the less empty spaces you'll find. So don't be lazy and walk a little if you have to, it's nothing to get stressed over. You can come out of here with a whole lot of groceries for a little money... My latest big spend here was $3.10! I was amazed since I got all the Veggies I needed to last me for a couple weeks. So go and enjoy not spending all your money in one trip to the market. Oh and yes a lot of the people that work there are Spanish speaking but again what do you expect when most of the costumers are Hispanic and it is mostly a Hispanic community. This may not apply to many but I eat chia everyday, I was paying top dollar at Whole Foods like an idiot, you can buy chia here in bulk for nothing. It's a steal. 2-queso y jalapeño bolillo. I like shopping at El Super for their super cheap produce. Usually after comparing their prices with other stores, El Super will come out on top. They also lower their prices even further on Wednesdays! You just have to check the ads, which come in the mail if you live in the surrounding area and are also up online. Some items we scored recently to give you a scope on their prices: + 5 lbs of cucumbers, $0.99 + 4 lbs of onions, $0.99 + 5 for $0.99 ears of corn + 5 lbs of carrots, $0.99 Their other stuff is decently priced too, but I wouldn't get any American brand name things like Oreos or Rice Krispies here. Actually, this pretty much applies to all ethnic stores I've been to... Of course, it's not perfect. Their carts are always mysteriously missing, and you can see people with Target carts from next door. The produce section is a battlefield with tiny aisles and too many people. They have the flimsiest produce bags ever. It can seem kind of unclean and smelly if you're too used to Ralph's. If you're bothered by this, probably not the best place for you to go to. Very crowded and parking is horrible! The prices are a steal because you can come out with a lot more groceries than other stores such as Ralphs, Albertsons, etc.; however certain brands are not available so you would have to go to the other stores to get them and when they are available the price is a bit higher (ex: sandwich meat, some known juices). The weekday special for meat and produce are good deals, especially in this economy. The only thing I hate is their customer service, it's not the friendliest. This store is quite interesting in many ways. First, the parking is rediculously horrible. Next, finding a shopping cart is just as well. There are alot of transients begging for money. Somehow, the parking seems to have a hint of "tamales" smell. The store has their own security personnel, but they do not step outside of the store. On several occasions I have seen thieves slowly monitoring the parking lot as they drive (or walk) around. When they see their target, they lock in and steal whatever accessories they need from a parked vehicle. They aren't even quick about it. It couldn't be a more casual operation. That's just outside the store. Inside of the store there is apperently only one person in charge who appears to speak English and he is the Store Director. He is not very attentive to customer needs. However, he responds quickly when a detail is brought to his attention. But, he does it with a very bad attitude. The atmosphere is not appealing at all and the attitudes of the workers are disgustingly horrible. The produce workers spend most of their time working and complaining about the customers and the other departments spend their times making ugly faces at people. The store has rediculous vegetable sales on a given day of the week. So, the turnout is crazy. Aside from the fact that the supply (both quality and quantity) does not always meet customer demands, the customer service is horrible in every department of the store. I can't say too much about sanitation. Simply open your eyes and look around. See for yourself. The weekly sales are not worth the degrating lack of customer service this store provides. the feeling you get from coming to this store is like being a cow in a barnyard getting ready to be cattle prodded. In this store there are two kinds of people. There are sheep...and there are people who know that they are sheep. With that said, make your own judgement. From the looks of things, some people do not appear to be bothered by the environment. Then again, there are people who dread these particular sales day, but have to come anyways because of financial hardships. (for your discretion) here's a helpful hint. Try to avoid going to this store after the Store Director, is gone for the day. Especially when he's not in on the weekends. That's when work aversion is at it's worst. Food for less has equally good deals on fruits and veggies and the lines aren't half as long as they are here. No matter what time you come here it's always packed and they only open about 3 registers. A lot of people paying with WIC and it gets even slower. Not the best selection of items as the store isn't the biggest. I don't mind waiting in line but for more than 10 min seems excessive. Everybody in South Gate and their entire familia come here so expect lots of kids running around and it's not the cleanest. I only came here on a sour creme run and It's 2 blocks away from my house and it took me 25min just for that. Don't waste your time in this poor excuse of a supermarket. read more

Great, great prices for the adventurous!!!! Why do I say for the adventurous? Well, for starters you have to HUNT for a shopping cart! LITERALLY! Yes, they are not conveniently amassed in one place. You have to walk throughout the parking lot and sometimes it's hard to find them nearby. Some people just use nearby Target carts haha! I had to follow a lady to her car and ask her for her cart haha! Well, I met a nice lady anyway. At the end of this day a lady followed me to my car for my cart haha! I made another acquaintance there too haha! I found out the hard way that some of these cars do not have the rack underneath and don't have the child seat either haha! Also for the adventurous is trying to maneuver your cart in the vegetable section. The vegetable section is crazy crowded, but it's manageable and you get used to it. Oh, and today I saw a lady remove the stalks from her broccoli haha! It tripped me out at first but then it dawned on me....she just wanted the weight to go down and only pay for the tree part of the broccoli haha! Que nacadas (Now that's low class)! There are all kinds of cool products here for those that cook Mexican food! Everything you could ever want for a great Mexican meal is here. Today's great deal was four small cans of tomato sauce for $1!!!! Tomato sauce is essential for most Mexican dishes. How about a whole chicken for $0.87 per pound! 6 cobs of corn for $1! 5 lbs of Russet Potatoes for $1! WOW!!!! The store is conveniently located near the 710 Fwy. Added a second star ONLY because if you go in the mornings, it is a lot less hectic. Go in the morning if you can. If you can't, go to the Paramount one instead. ah what a difference a few miles make. so remember my bad mexican bread purchasing experience a few reviews below this one? it was alleviated by this store. this place is a great store for those commuting on the 710 fwy as it is right outstide the firestone exit, east of the freeway. this place is huge,and i mean huge. it's the john holmes of mexican grocery stores. it probably has the same amount of people coming here, if not more as el tapatio, but this place is so well ventilated and bright and clean, you never feel claustrophobic or let me rephrase this, if i don't feel crowded, neither will you. and the mexican bread? pretty fresh. they make it in store in their in store bakery. they also have a cocina that sells mexican food. you eat and then shop on a full stomach. afterall, it's never recommended to buy groceries on an empty stomach. if there is any a need to buy mexican food, items, produce, this is the place to do it at reasonable prices. parking is a pain, just because there is also a target next door and there is just so many cars, so it does not get an all start review but the overall experience will be pleasant by many. read more

Worst place ever bought some chicken wings from the Bucher and get home and were spoiled but bad! Called the store to talk to a manager and i was told they would give me the money back for the wings. This El Super is alright. I've spent countless hours inside this store bc I've worked at a booth inside. Thus, I've seen a lotta shit go down here. Their "carritos" (or shopping carts) are notoriously bad and I'd often see people pissed off coming in and out the store to get another one or steal one from the target next door. They play the same music over and over again so I'm sure the employees grow tired of it. I know I have. Some items are priced in a sneaky way so look out! One of the things i noticed shopping here daily is the lack of care, what i mean by this is that they use their forklift daily at the fastest speeds possible and turn without hesitation regardless of the tight space. Although impressed by the drivers ability to maneuver through this very busy store i am surprised i have never witnessed an accident. So watch out for the forklift and very long lines with everybody shopping as if they needed to stock up for nuclear war plus aside from that these food hoarders are yet to discover the convienience of a debit card for faster line service, no, they decide to pay cash... all in large bills... hmm yet they claim to be "broke". and dont bother explaining how to use it too because its a nerd talk to them....No space at all in this store, cashiers seem to have interesting conversations at times within themselves of course... watch out for solicitors at the entrance inside, i usually fake a cell phone call to avoid them. The other day i saw a baker moving fresh bread with the rolling shelf... and i felt the heat from the rolling shelf.... with bratty kids running around what would be the chances of a burned kid and a lawsuit? read more
