Came with friends mid Lakeview Dive Bar Classic crawl! This was the perfect spot to grab a quick bite to eat and I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area! The restaurant is pretty big and there's a lot of seating. The servers are very friendly, and waiting patiently for us while we checked out the whole menu. I ended up getting the Al Pastor tacos and the Elote loaded fries - all of which were delicious. My friends got a couple of the quesadillas, which they also said were really good. After a long hot day of doing touristy things - Museums & Sunset River tour - it was late and we were HUNGRY! We checked Yelp for late night food offerings and decided nothing sounds better than tacos! And since El Taco Cart was only .2 of a mile from our Airbnb it won! It's not a large place - only 6-7 tables and a few seats at the window or along the bar. The door was propped open and there were a handful of people eating or waiting for take out. The menu is on a board on the wall filled with delicious sounding tacos, burritos etc... I ordered a steak burrito and two steak tacos and one el pastor. And a side of chips with guacamole. Ten minutes later we were walking out with our food. The food was delicious! Hit the spot! I did end up with a chicken burrito when I thought I ordered steak but it was still fabulous! (And it was late so maybe my brain said steak but my lips said chicken) Anyway, if you are in the very diverse and open and accepting area of Lakeview/Chicago and feel the need for some good tacos - El Taco Cart is a great choice! read more

Out and about in Chicago and stumbled upon this great taco joint. Ordered at the counter by friendly staff. Waited longer than I would have liked but found that it was worth the wait. Had the carne asada tacos and my partner had the carne asada burrito. Meat was well seasoned and delicious. Probably a dollar more in price than they should have been but they were so good who cares. I came in not expecting much given the exterior but was pleasantly surprised by the tamales and horchata. Their pizza tamale was interesting but i don't think I would get it again. It was a bit too greasy for me but the other tamales were good and balanced with flavor. Service was very quick and they brought food to the table. I will definitely be coming back again. read more

This business is terrible. We were in town for market days and stopped to eat here. While we were eating a man took off his clothes and was eating naked. Within 5 feet of his table was a family with a toddler. We told the staff and spoke with the manger and were informed nothing would be done. They told us the man was a lawyer in town and came often. I have spoke since then with the city of Chicago and was told nudity is not allowed in the city. They said I should have grabbed an officer. I did try walking around to find one but sadly could only find security guards for market days and they couldn't do anything. In the Google review I left they tried to tell us we were shaming someone and that they could sit in their tighty whities. As you will see in the attached photo the man is naked. Again I know the manager is going to respond and try to say we were loud or aggressive to try to make this business look better for allowing a man to eat nude in front of a child completely unchecked. I hope everyone will get loud and stand against grown men eating nude in a restaurant. The manager here cared more about money and the fact that this man had influence in the city then the safety of the child. If I could leave zero stars I would. I have filed complaints with the mayors office and with the better business bureau. read more

Very disappointed in this place. I was excited to hear that we were getting a new late night taco place on Northalsted especially since Taco Burrito Palace closed a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, that excitement went away after having dinner here. First, the prices are outrageous. $5 for a taco! Not to mention that the steak tacos were dried out and bland. The rice as well as the chips and salsa were just ok. They only give you small containers of salsa for the chips and salsa. $56 for that food is crazy pricy for a little taqueria. I stopped by for tacos for the first time and was deeply disappointed. The steak tacos were terrible. The meat was cold and tough while the tortilla was stale. When you are charging $5 per tiny taco, I would at least expect they would be fresh. Also got an order of rice and it was ok but way over priced at $4 for a small container. The chips and salsa are a joke with a box of chips and two tiny 1 ounce cups of salsa for $7. This will be my first and last time for El Taco cart. read more
