Place has really gone downhill. The owners need to have their food quality evaluated. As a recurring customer these are the issues. Burritos have less meat than an average taco. The meat is rubbery with dry tortillas. If you ask for no onions or a specific request they completely forget. I pad for extra meat on a burrito once and there was almost no meat. Pass by this place everyday on my home from work and finally decided to give it a try, was kind if hesitant because of the negative reviews but i decided to go and see for myself . For starters the curtis working the front were very friendly and attentive . Taco Veloz is a constant off 20 and Buford hwy. Serving good Mexican food for as long as I can remember. I like everything on the menu. But I am a sucker for the steak burrito regular. (9 bucks). Its the best I've had. Why? Steak. All steak. A pich of onion, cilantro and a splash of Verde sauce. They have other variants like Supreme. Or special.. I go for the simple char grilled steak. Recommended to me by some of my friends from Mexico, El Taco Veloz was not a disappointment. Always as an introduction I like to start with the basics, tacos carne asada. Their version was good and the meat was "picante" or spicy without any additional sauces. It was well-flavored and the toppings didn't hurt either. They past the first test and I definitely will return to try more menu items. The food taste gives the feel of a back of the carnicería spot but has a chain restaurant appearance. I just heated up my leftover tacos and rice and beans. I thought it would be rude not to tell our friends about our favorite taco spot .... especially since there is a new shop super close to our house. A long long time ago, way back in 1993, there was no internet. There was no Yelp nor Trip Advisor. In the Atlanta area, all we had was "Creative Loafing" (free un-edited paper) to help us find Nitelife, Live Music and Really Good, Authentic, Ethnic food from all over the world And also in home massages and people who would clean your homes wearing nothing but a bow tie. LOL Life was so simple back then.. Our favorite after hours, after hours (when restaurants finally closed) food was found 20 miles away on Roswell Rd near I-285. They were open til 4am and started again early morning. El Taco Veloz. You had to be brave and committed to drive there....and mostly sober with advance cash from your hangry friends. When we lived in Norcross a new ETV came to our area just as we were moving away. We ate their food once a week for 10 years. Now, now there is a brand new ETV only 3 miles from our home ....right up the street in Buford!!!!! It's got everything the original store had and more. Their counter people are friendly and professional (and multi-lingual), the kitchen is super fast and everything is hot, fresh and delicious. 8 tacos and 2 rice and beans to go with a handheld 1/2 gallon of Horchata all the salsa you can handle is around $25. I'm a fan of the Doraville location, so I was very excited to see one opening close to my office. I've been twice now in the 11 days that it's been open, and I'm rather disappointed. Problem 1: Someone decided it would be a brilliant idea to have but 1 cash register/ordering station at a very popular restaurant. I've been there at 11am and at 12:50pm, and the line was to the door on both occasions. There's absolutely no reason anyone should wait up to 20 minutes to place an order for freaking tacos. Problem 2: I was pleased to see they had churros on the menu, because I thoroughly enjoy a good churro. I decided to be a nice guy an bring some back for my staff, but I asked the girl at the register "Do you guys make the churros here, yourself?" Her reply, "Yes. We make them." Great! I'll have 8! It took about 2 seconds at the office to see they were not made there. And you don't get chocolate or strawberry sauce to dip in, the factory injects it inside the churro. They were pretty wrong... Problem 3: Today, after they've been open for 8 days, from the moment I walked in, until I walked out with my carry out order: 33 minutes. That's unacceptable for tacos at lunch. And they messed up the order, forgetting a chicken taco and giving an extra shrimp. On the whole, I like the food, but this place absolutely needs a new manager. And an additional register. You cannot run a business like this. There's a Chevron just a mile up Buford Highway with a taco place in it that's delicious and the wait is half as long. I really wanted to love this place. First, it is clean. The staff is working out the kinks and that's understandable. The food.... tasted like it was cooked in a pressure cooker or crockpot. The tacos barely had 4 pieces of popcorn shrimp, the burrito was tiny, without the sour cream and cheese that I ordered on it, and the Carne a la Mexicana that was $12.50, was tough, tasteless mess. I visited the new location in Buford and right off the bat, Ashely the cashier greeted us with a big smile. She was very informative of the prices and the menu which i always tend to ignore. This place needs a new manager. Very bad leadership and cannot communicate very well. I feel that the staff need someone who is well fit for a manager position. My husband went to go get food here. Very good food, he ordered a burrito and said in quote " it's bussin bussin ". He is very concerned about how much he is being taxed for a burrito. Very nice location and very beautiful bright sign. One other concern is that they forgot the avocado on the plate he ordered once but he still enjoyed it. Heard good things about this location from Mexican co-workers, so I called in an order for the Carne Asada plate and the Barbacoa Beef plate for dinner tonight. The first thing I noticed was that the employees were friendly and efficient, which is very important. The next thing I noticed was the huge serving sizes of my dinner plates - in addition to ample portions of perfectly seasoned and cooked rice and beans, each plate had enough meat to get 8 or 9 sizeable tacos. Both meats were excellent, but the flank steak in the Carne Asada was truly exceptional. It was juicy and as flavorful as could be. There was no doubt it was masterfully marinaded and then cooked on a real grill by someone who knew what they were doing! The tortillas were clearly handmade and piping hot. I could have eaten a plate of them plain and been happy! The green (tomatillo) sauce was excellent, and really complimented the fresh cilantro. There was one very minor letdown. On the website, they showed a big tank of Tamarindo drink. I therefore assumed from the picture that they made their own, but sadly, I found only bottled Jarritos at the store. In and of itself, it's a good beverage (uses real cane sugar) but I was rather anticipating the real thing. My daughter wanted to try this place, so today we did. It is next to Buford KFC in a parking lot, in what used to be the Buford Huddle House building on Hwy 20. They have fixed the interior up with booths and couple tables and chairs to dine at. The menu is basic street Mexican, not your TexMex most places serve. Prices were decent. Food was very tasty!! We both got burritos. Mine with carnitas and my daughter got chicken. They were large and the fillings very plentiful. The place stayed rather busy the whole time we were there with a lot of carry out. There is condiment bar that had different salsas, I tried their medium* green tomatillo, and their medium was more to me a hot!! One customer, we chatted with, said the Barbacoa tacos were one of his faves. The Tortas we saw several eating looked yummy too. We both decided we would need to return to try other items soon. I was excited to see this new taco spot open near us. However I was very disappointed with the service and the food. First the girls at the registers have the worst attitude, they were very rude. Not pleasant what's so ever, just young girls messing around. We waited nearly 30 minutes to get our food. When we finally get it, the portions are ridiculous for the price they ask for.
