Decent Mexican restaurant; I'm not sure why all the rave reviews -- perhaps a lot of tourists who have never had Mexican food before. Large spacious restaurant, filled with typical decor you'd expect at this type of mexican establishment. Food was extremely mediocre -- nothing terrible but also nothing spectacular. Not a ton of parking, so during busy season, consider going early. This was prob our 2nd fav eatery during the trip. Coming from Texas, Mexican food is always a interesting experience in another state. But we were both pleasantly surprised!!! Rice was awesome! Wells seasoned and perfectly cooked. Chili gravy and cheese enchilada were awesome! Taco... ehhh... maybe dont lay it on too if the enchiladas. Mine just fell apart snd had to eat it with a fork and taco meat could use some improvement. The best restaurant in Moab! Everything was amazing. The ambiance is very lovely. Chips and salsa came out right away and it was one of the best salsas I've ever had, so flavorful. We got queso as well and it was also incredible. To drink I got the house margarita, and it was large and delicious. Perfect after a long day of hiking. They have lots of vegetarian options, very well marked which I appreciated. My husband got the chipotle burrito and is still raving about it. Great service from George set the tone for a wonderful dining experience at El Tapatio. Their vegetarian Burrito Relleno is a masterpiece and more than enough for two to share. You can choose from the soft chile pepper inside (our preference) or the fried option. Both are mild. Rice & Beans are also inside and the appointments are fresh and delicious. Service was excellent! The whole waitstaff was efficient and speedy. Shredded beef taco was very good and tasty. Chile Relleno was tasty but really small, about four bites! Get the regular relleno not the crispy one! My wife got the pork Chimichanga thinking it was carnitas and it was not. It was cubes of bland pork. Beans and rice were pretty good. This is the best Mexican in Moab. We swung through after a long day of hiking (little dude knocked out 20 miles!) and were ravenously hungry. The team is friendly and the food came out quick. Their salsa is flavorful but not too assertive (everyone liked it) and the portions are massive. The flavors across all of our dishes were on point and we had plenty of leftovers to keep everyone fed well past lunch the next day. The first thing anyone needs to know about dining in Moab is that there will never be enough options to keep all the tourists from overcrowding the good spots. This restaurant is new since our last visit in 2022 and we decided to give it a shot. At 6pm on a Thursday we waltzed in and got seated righted away behind two other four tops. Lots of colorful seating options with an emphasis of seating for 1-4 people. It's a vast improvement from when this was an Indian restaurant. We placed our food and drink orders quickly and mowed down two baskets of chips, salsa and fresh cabbage slaw. The marg was good. We ordered two combos and our friends ordered the carnitas plate and the chipotle chimichanga. Food took a bit longer than expected Ted but the place was packed and they kept stopping to let us know they had not forgotten us. Food came hot and fresh and soooo good. I had the combo with a crispy relleno, cheese enchilada and chicken chimichanga. Wow, that was a great combination. Everyone at the table said it looked the best. The chipotle Sauce was also notable. The carnitas plate were tasty but a tad dry. Needs green chili!!! Carne asada burrito got great reviews too. The fresh salsa was great and the servers were attentive and hospitable. We had been Jeeping the trails all day and had been talking about how we really wanted Mexican food for dinner... I had seen this restaurant while driving through town earlier and we decided to try it... so happy we did... We wanted our meals to go, and they were very accommodating. I ordered the tacos (carne asada and their pollo adobado) and my granddaughter ordered the tamales. The meat on both tacos was generous. I took a point off for the corn tortillas that stiffened by the time we got back to our hotel room (about 10 minutes), but otherwise they were very good. The beans didn't have a lot of seasoning, so they went well with the meal. And, I compare all Mexican rice to my Aunt's, and theirs came pretty close. My granddaughter liked the tamales. Said maybe the meat was "a little dry" but otherwise she enjoyed them, and there was so much food we enjoyed leftovers the next day. I also ordered a side of chips and guacamole. Chips are fresh and crunchy with just the right amount of salt. I enjoyed the guacamole, also very fresh. And, they included some of their salsa and this nice pickled relish with the chips, both great tasting. Would definitely recommend it, and will come back when we're back in Moab. They had a huge menu selection, and I know I would love to try some of their other offerings. read more

Came here after an evening hike at Arches - STARVING. I'm talking had breakfast, explored Moab all day, hiked in the evening for three hours, and then had a 10pm dinner. If it weren't for Marcelo at El Tapatío I'm not sure if I would have made it. His recommendations were spot on. The food was incredible and warm and came in large portions. BUT, our order was wrong having to send some things back and missing other parts of our order that we just said forget it.
