Came here for an early dinner with some friends. Was highly recommend for the meat plate but I chose the mojarra Frita. The Mojarra frita was cooked just right, some places tend to over cook it and dry out the fish not here. With just a squeeze of lemon over the flaky meat and it was delish... we also started with stuffed yellow chili and they were tasty, tried the first one solo with no sauce or anything and it was good. We then added a squeeze of lemon a dash of soy sauce and some of the mayo and they were even better not sure why but they just were. We had a couple of the chabelas with Pacifico and they were prepared just right. My buddy had the meat plate that came with carne asada, chorizo and carnitas. Out of the three meats the carnitas was the best as the asada you could tell had been sitting in a pan for quite sometime. Ive been coming to this restaurant for quite some time and I am a local resident. The food is great, the place is clean and all the staff members are really nice and hard workers. Tonight I think was the last straw of a list of disappointments from this place and I always like to give chances and brush mistakes off but tonight was the boiling point. I think customer service and the importance of the customer should always be a priority. Tonight I was very disappointed, I felt like they didn't care and I was just another customer in there pockets whether I come to eat or don't I don't think they care about there customers. I am no longer going to eat at this restaurant and I hope in the future they can add an emphasis on customer importance and customer service. read more

I had to blink twice. I must be In Mexico. Eating at El Tapatio is like sitting in a restaurant in Mexico City. This place has been around since the 90's, super awesome Mexican food! The carne asada torta still tasted like I remember from back in my high school days. They even started doing karaoke during the evening hours. This restaurant is the real deal Mexican food and has some amazing seafood dishes . I couldn't believe how packed it was on a Wednesday nightI, I was told by my server that it wasn't even that busy. I believe this joint has thrived over the years all by word of mouth. Go here for cocktails. And I don't mean beverages. Cocteles de mariscos -- seafood cocktails! They are known for their seafood, and I don't know anyone who has had their non-seafood. They do have some tasty cocteles, and the liquid part isn't all ketchuppy like most places. though they were yummy, it was pricey for a spot in Indio and cocteles. I've had much cheaper, but they do give you a good portion. As for the inside? All of the tables were HUGE circle tables, and only two of us went, so we had to both lean into the table to share the chips and salsa in the middle. This proved more entertaining than anything else haha Would I go there again? Probably not because there are so many other spots to try. If there were only a few, I'd be down to eat there again. Worst customer service, we come all the way from desert hot springs just to enjoy with our family, but I will never go there again or recommend (Jessi V) the waitress was so unprofessional, she never gave us a menu and expected us to order at sitting so we were forced to order tacos as it is the only thing posted on the wall. she wouldn't come to check on us throughout this whole experience, she took 10 min to bring us a water and 2 aguas frescas, the coffee took 15 min longer, we ordered TACOS and 1 torta. Food and price is excellent, but the service is constantly poor. It takes forever to get simple service. I don't know why I keep coming here. I am here now. I showed up at 4:27 and it's now 5:21 and I only ordered 1 ceviche tostada and 1 al pastor taco. The taco never came so 10 minutes ago I got a waitresses attention and I still don't have my taco. This is probably the worst experience so far. My co workers and I work close and it's not lunch time friendly and we get 1 hour lunches. El Tapatio is a fave for shrimp ceviche and cocktails and the negro modelo chabelas are the best I've had. It's a good place to go to eat and hang out. The food is amazing but the service is terrible, so much room for improvement. Whenever I ask for anything, whether it be salsa, drink, lemons I always get a long explanation as to why I will or won't be able to get that item. I just picked up take out and it still took over 30 mins for the food to be ready and the restaurant was 20% full. My husband and I went to a boxing match at Fantasy Casino and found ourself spending the night. We woke up looking for a michelladas and went on Yelp and found this delicious treasure. We found out what a CHABELA is all I can say is YUUUUUUUMMMMMMM! They are so good, cold, tasty and perfect for a hangover! We also had the White Chile stuffed with shrimps and cheese I fell in love with them. We also order a mixta cocktail and again we were not disappointed. Well I have to say this is turning out to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the valley.. their food is super fantastic their service is awesome the whole thing is cool and they're open late I believe Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday they're open till 1:30 in the morning which is great no matter what time you go you get the same quality of food so don't think that if you go at midnight there foods not going to be that good it will be good and it's always busy at that time.. so far I have had the enchiladas with green sauce a taco and they also have Mexican Coke in a bottle. My friends say that this is one of the best places for Cabela's. Anyway I highly recommend this place the food is good the salsas are good everything is good no matter what time you come. read more

Very bad service every time I come. But I still want to give it some stars because believe it or not, the chavelas make up for it. Pay attention to your bill as well. I got over charged for a candy for my son and when I pointed it out instead of fixing it she insisted that I grab another candy to even it out... Came here with a party of 4 plus my 1 year old son (from san diego), and I totally regret coming here. It was our very first time coming here and as soon as we walked in, we were not greeted, and had no idea if it was self service table or wait to be seated kind of place. We were standing for a good minute until I decided to approach the waiter to ask how it worked. I was told to sit down and someone would be with me, ok that's fine. We get a table, and wait approx. 6 mins before we get helped. Place did not look so busy so idk why they cant be quicker. I am here sitting with my son and not once was I offered a booster seat. Being an Indio resident tapatios has a very big reputation for one thing...chavelas! They Definetly have there own thing going on here. Food is average but if you are looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant this is the place. Great beer selection. They do have live music from time but the jukebox in here usually does the trick! So I have passed this place a million times & finally stopped. It always seems packed. Our waitress was fast & very sweet but others were extremely rude/short with me & one even completely ignored me. Service was slow but waitress was again good. Michelada was delicious. Food not so much. Very average. Red sauce on my chili rellano was like marinara almost with a few vegetables cut up & thrown in. Yellow salsa served with chips very tasty & chips are very good-thick & crisp. Place is kinda pricey for what you're getting. Very loud atmosphere. Strange table setup almost like a cafeteria. The waitress had no personality, not once did she come and check on us to give us an update on our food, 3 freaking chimichangas and a burrito,52 minutes later and still no food!! Wtf!!! My kids fell asleep waiting for the food!!! Never again!!! I walked out on that horrible service!!! And they still had the nerve to charge us for the drinks, my husband is a good man so he paid, but I would have exchanged some words with management. You need to retrain your employees!!!!
