I've been here a few times and every time It's always been good. The service is pretty quick, and the servers are really friendly. They have ice cold chavelas and beer. I got the Camarones à la Diabla which were really spicy and so good. my girlfriend had a sope and a taco, And they're really good portions. Food is authentic. Service could definitely use improvement. My table of two was ignored for over an hour. My waitress carina helped every other table in her section expect ours. She brought the food and never check up on us even after trying to get her attention. We couldn't finish since we had nothing to drink. Our Lyft driver recommended this place as authentic Mexican and he was spot on. Service was prompt and helpful. The chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful. My wife had an enchilada and chile relleno which she loved. She said it was the best enchilada she'd ever had. I had a beef plate with mushrooms and bacon. It was delicious and the portion was huge. The food and portion here is awesome. My mom and I were driving around and we just happened to come upon this gem. When you go in, you just sit anywhere and the server comes by. Looks like a lot of locals come here so we didnt know what we were doing. All the food ordered was delicious. We ate a 7 seas soup and it was so delicious that I ordered another one to take home. Once again, I'm visiting a Mexican restaurant that has been a local fixture for over 35--and if I'm not mistaken, 40--years, located in the city of Indio right on Indio Boulevard. I first visited this little restaurant back in the 90s, when it was situated right next to the Social Security offices--commonly known to the locals as the popular *El Tapatío*! Their beef *birria*--a dish made famous in Guadalajara, Jalisco--is a huge hit, as are their incomparable tacos featuring beef tripe, tongue, and head meat! They also offer *aguas frescas* and a wide selection of Mexican beers. For anyone visiting the area who happens to be near the city of Indio along Indio Boulevard, I recommend this place 100%. The only slightly annoying thing is the service; the waitresses really need to pay a bit more attention to their customers--specifically by trying to provide the essentials without the customer having to ask for them (things like a glass of water, napkins, or silverware). In short, they should have the absolute basics ready for the customer in advance. Personally, I would give it 5 stars, but I'm giving it 4 --deducting one star solely due to the customer service provided by the waitstaff. read more

Yummy! This is the perfect stop to grab some breakfast, lunch, or dinner! We stopped by on a Sunday pre-covid and it was packed. The parking lot is kinda tight so it was a challenge to find a spot. The employees took some time to acknowledge us and for some reason they sat us down but didn't have anyone to help us out. We were in a rush so after 15 mins of waiting we finally spoke up. The server ended up being nice and checked up on our table a few times. Our food didn't take too long to come out. The food was great! Nice and hot and freshly made! The salsa was amazing! Absolutely love this place. Everytime I come to visit my parents out in cat city we always make the drive to come down to el tapatio. Every time I go I get the Chile Colorado and it is delicious! The service is always quick and the homemade chips and salsa are great. They recently just did a remodel of the restaurant which includes a full length bar and updated kitchen area. I'm glad this place is finally getting some love! I will be returning :) read more

I was in a party of 6. Lunch after attending an afternoon funeral. The place was empty when we arrived. But around 2-3pm, seems like everyone and their mama rolled thru and the place was poppin! I ordered chilaquiles with carne asada and requested my eggs be over medium. N you know what I got?!?!?!? Freakin' EXACTLY what I ordered and my eggs were PERFECT! The server was nice and helpful. Though, I think she forgot my horchata but then remembered when she brought out our food. All good. The horchata was a 2nd order and I already had my sprite. Any how, the reason I gave 4 star is cuz the side of guacamole was a really small portion for $6+ and my Tia's taco meat was burnt up like they were mad at her or something lol. Good food, crappy service! Long waits as well, tried beating the line and calling in to place orders for lunch, that's a wait it self. Will have you on the line for 5 mins and either forget your there and never come back to take your order, then when you call back in it seems they won't answer because maybe they have caller ID and play that stupid game. It is until you call from another number they will answer very quickly, so just a heads up if you are calling in to place an order, be prepared to deal with that BS. Today we were debating to go to tapatío, or Allende, so my family and I decided for Tapatío, the staff greeted us as we walked in, when it was ordering time it went smoothly. But the not so good part when we got the food, Food was fresh, but like the plates that had avocado, they were brown already, my cóctel de camarones, the shrimp had shell on on most of all the shrimp, the torta de carne asada and my carne asada taco the meat it looked like it had been reheated cause it was really dried, but as for the enchiladas and carnitas plate were good, but the avocado was brownish, lemons some kind of dried and old we were so hungry and excited to be there, but the experience was not good! read more

Was excited to try the chabelas after hearing so many good things about the chalices they serve here. Was not disappointed at all! Also tried the shrimp fajitas which were steaming hot and well cooked... a bit disappointed with the 5 shrimp this $15 dollar plate came with. Live music was a lot of fun and customers were handed the mic for karaoke. Place was extremely loud and had to yell at everybody in order to be heard. Standard practice: when in a new community find a small restaurant and visit. So I did, and it was AWESOME. The restaurant has booth and table seating, but seems configured for parties of six to eight. Alas, I was a solo, but a foursome arrived a few minutes after me and "open seating" asked if they could share the table. Now, I love Mexican-style seafood, which El Tapatio advertised. And I don't mean the shrimp; I want fish. And they had it, in many styles. I ordered the pescado al mojo de ajo; white fish sautéed in butter and garlic. Served with tortillas (choice of corn or flour), rice, beans, and a simple salad of lettuce and tomato slices with avocado. Chips and a molcajete-made salsa showed up before I ordered anything, of course. The fish was AWESOME. Still slightly steaming; it was cooked perfectly and covered with garlic pieces and thin-sliced onions. (Despite the volume of garlic, the cooking process removes some of the garlic intensity.) Now, I docked them a star because this restaurant isn't in the most welcome of after-dark neighborhoods, and the table had some crumbs from a previous diner. But service was otherwise spot on (attentive but not bothersome), it was karaoke night and the live entertainment was hilarious, and the food is calling me to return. read more
