It's usually pretty good & better than most Mexican food places around but tonight's order was bland, like hospital- retirement home bland.. like tonight's cook was new or idk what happened & just opened some cans & packages, added water to the beans, no seasoning & let it fly. I really didn't want to cook but I should've & easily could've done that & better for way less. At least add some salt but preferably onion, cumin, chili powder, garlic, paprika, seeded jalapeño- just anything. Tonight was about on par with most Oregon Mexican food instead of being better . I just wanted a breakfast burrito which apparently they don't have and served me some weird burrito filled with ground pork and slathered in sauce. I wish they just said we don't have chorizo I would have ordered something else! The salsa was completely bland, no heat whatsoever. Chips were super thick and stale. We were offered to wait a little while for a table to open or to take a seat in the bar. We opted for the bar seating and took the last available table in there. Despite being busy the staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered drinks and our meals when chips and salsa came to the table. The salsa is very good! We tried the chicken fajitas, chili Colorado and a bowl of tortilla soup. Everything was served hot and steaming. The tortillas seemed to be fresh and soft (flour). All the meats were nicely cooked and flavorful. It was a great meal! The restaurant appears clean and nice. The prices are very reasonable. We'll be back soon to try other dishes. read more

This place has great food, simply put. Granted, I order the same thing 99% of the time. But it's so yummy!

Service was so quick. Got seated right away and two baskets of chips and salsa before our entrees came. Entrees were really good size portion and really tasty. I had the asada burrito and the steak was very well cooked, not chewy at all. And my husband got the #9 and he really enjoyed it as well. Very cute tile decorations everywhere. Me and my bestie Oscar came here after he did my hair. Oscar is Mexican so if he tells me that a Mexican restaurant is legit, I trust him. When we went in it was packed so they are doing something right. The thing is, I remember coming to this place before with Oscar and had the chicken enchiladas with the mole sauce and remember thinking to myself, this is just ok. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. This place is located on the main drag off 99E in Milwaukie, well, actually the address is technically in Portland but it's way out there where there are no good restaurants. My ceviche was the perfect portion size for lunch. There were plenty of shrimp, a whole avocado, but it was salty as hell. Even my margarita with salt wasn't that salty. It was edible, but just barely. The margarita was great. I'm sure I'll be back again because Oscar likes it. Maybe I'll try the tacos. I'm giving four stars- really solid B + for food, atmosphere and service. Typical American Mexican food served in a nice setting. We shared the mixed fajitas- chicken, shrimp and steak. Plenty for two of us without doing the "for two" option which gets you another plate of rice,beans, sour cream and guacamole. This place is incredible! The staff is beyond accommodating, kind, helpful, and overall a very loving family restaurant. My Father unexpectedly passed away in October of 2024. He loved this restaurant and often went. Many of his co workers also frequented it. My sister and I decided to have a casual family gathering in December of 2024 to see some of our dad's side of the family. The staff was able to accommodate us all and many kids perfectly. The food and drinks are delicious and prices are great too. They let us bring flowers, candles and a large picture of my dad. I'm so grateful to them for hosting us and allowing us to remember our dad in a restaurant he loved! That felt special and was important to my family. I can't remember the names of the 2 servers who helped us, I want to say Ivan and I can't remember the other ones name but all the staff was wonderful. I highly recommend. 10/10 Ivan and Gabriel were our servers and went above and beyond to accommodate my family. All the servers and staff were amazing and helpful but these two were truly wonderful. The portions are huge but who cares if it's not that great? They do serve you chips and two salsas. One mild, one hot. Both just ok. It was a few more minutes for water and chips. The salsa bowl is about a half a cup. We had to ask for more. They brought one more. We ordered the enchilada de Mole and shrimp fajitas. I will say the chicken enchiladas were delicious. That sweet sauce with very little spice was cooked to my taste. Their refried beans were just right The shrimp fajitas were seasoned but you only get six tail-on shrimp and a large plate full of peppers and onions. How the hell can you screw up chicken...they sure did! My dish tasted like freezer burn

I don't hate this restaurant, I really want to like it because it's locally owned, it's just so mediocre. The service felt rushed and I felt as if I wasn't wanted there. As a former chef, it's hard for me to eat this food that has clearly been prepared with little line. The refried beans are definitely from a can and all the food just seems "wet" and not fresh. It's as of everything is prepared beforehand and just reheated. I can almost guarantee most of it is reheated in the microwave or held hot for hours on a steam table. The interior needs a bit of a a facelift, but I really don't mind the ambiance, I always focus on food and service. Unfortunately, El Tapatio doesn't really deliver a good version of either. read more

There's really no hint of authentic flavors here..from the overly sweet mole to the cheddar cheese in the quesadillas, BUT you won't be disappointed if you're in it for what you expect. I get sick every time after even when I request no dairy (butter or cheese or sour cream) or gluten & they always forget & serve me with dairy over everything anyway bc they don't understand. Maybe they can't or didn't clean the grill enough or something too. Either way -- stay away if you have allergies or intolerances. Very dissatisfied! Every time I order here my food is wrong ! It's very simple and I am very clear with the order taker and again my order is wrong . I only asked for three items on my burrito and I get home and have sauce and tomatoes & lettuce, cheese , sour cream. ( I asked for beans, sirloin & cheese.) We call & can't get anyone for 15 minutes on the phone and now it's another half hour wait to replace it.
