It was ok nothing to brag about I got 3 asada tacos cilantro/onion w hot sauce. Meat was on the dry side, hot sauce was on the mild side. Tortillas were luke warm at best. Meat was spiced Ok nothing that stood out. I have had much better. Would I rush back, maybe if I just need a taco fix, but it would not be my go to. It's a corner lot, it's a little crazy, busy intersection at times. Noisy. No seating, basic pick up and go. I have seen better setups down the road. I must have driven past this a dozen times, even after seeing Janelle "Putting the P in W"s review. Drove up today and had 2 tacos and a quesadilla - all of which were good, fast and cheap. Had al pastor tacos and a carnitas quesadilla. Served on a plate with some radishes, a tiny bit of lettuce and some lime. I'm digging it a tiny bit more than my standing favorite - El Primo across from Mi Puebla. Now, how should I check the Yelp box asking about Outdoor Seating?... Our first Detroit taco truck experience, and we may not need to keep looking! We arrived after 1pm Sunday, and they were slammed. Slammed the whole time we were there too. Quick delivery of food. Delicious!! I got a ceviche tostada, a chorizo taco and a pollo taco. Everything was fresh perfection. Ken got a cheese quesadilla (how can cheese and tortilla taste that damn good??), a chorizo taco (copycat!), and a steak taco. We stood outside the truck with our paper plates balanced precariously on the ledge, squirting green and red sauces all over everything, groaning after each bite. Amazing! Here is the deal for fellow adventurous types: seek out unconventional purveyors of grilled meats piled high on corn tortillas served in parking lots and/or street corners. Look for carts and/or trucks with long lines. Order almost one of everything. Take pictures for Yelp! and then sit on the curb and enjoy your truly delicious find. Simple. My FIRST taco truck experience!!! I ordered the tacos Al Pastor (spicy pork) and Asada (marinated beef). Both were great (not dry, very flavorful, and the beef taco was def my fav)! They also have some salsa verde in a squeeze bottle to add to the tacos, which added another fantastic layer of flavor. El Taquito offers tacos, tortas, burritos, quesadillas, and ceviche for a price range of $1.25 - $5. Reasonable prices for great Mexican food! Though I am not a Mexican but I still want to say very authentic Mexican food I have had till date for the price you pay it's unbelievable. $6 for a chicken burrito. Chicken was grilled so good and it had so much flavor with the fresh cut mint that was added in the burrito and freshly squeezed lime. I tried the beef taco too. Too good !! Finally got a chance to try out El Taquito. Aside from the standard taco truck food, they also had Shrimp Quesadillas. These I just had to try. Wow. Although it weighed in at $2.50, it was on a large warm tortilla with about 6 medium sized shrimp cooked just right. Add to this some Mexican cheese, some slices of avocado and you have one fine and tasty lunch nugget. The only thing that really bothers me about El Taquito is that they use the smaller 3" tortillas and really don't have much in the way of accompaniments. But the good thing, they always seem to be there, and there is generally a crowd, so you know that the food is fresh. read more

Shout out to my new yelp buddy in Detroit janelle w. I went to this taco truck after she claimed that it would rival Mexican food found in L.A. Though I initially scoffed at her claim, I must say, I was VERY IMPRESSED with El Taquito and the food they serve. Being from LA, I'm used to great Mexican food and good food trucks, but El Taquito has made me a believer that I can find good and authentic Mexican food in a place even like Detroit. I only had the carne asada tacos and the carne asada super burrito. Believe me... stick with the tacos. The meat is juicy with a great blend of onions and cilantro. My only thing about the burrito was that it was huge but I could have done without it being refried beans in the burrito. Made it mushy for me. I will need to go back and try the chorizo and al pastor and camarones. The price is reasonable, truck is ehsy to find off Vernor Hwy and Military and the quantity is plenty. The location is in a big parking lot. If you're not going to take it home, expect to sit on the ground while you eat. I'm not around Detroit but Mexicantown looked pretty much like LA to me so it seemed safe enough. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the salsa. There is no substitute for the salsa roja from El Taurino or King Taco... the salsa here was a little more sweet than spicey. Nevertheless, good good food. read more

Best tacos I've had in the city. The owner is super nice and works really hard. Prices are amazing as well. Between this place and the smoked chicken at El Ray my search for great Mexican food in Detroit feels complete. I have had most of the tacos, my favorites being the Al Pastor and Carnitas, but every single thing I have had has been excellent. I started going occassionally after shopping for groceries at E&L, but now I feel like I make excuses to go grocery shopping so I can eat tacos from this place every weekend. read more

Confession time. I am a foodie. I've been that way ever since I discovered what a foodie is. I'm also a snob. I never did trust truck food. I figure if the guy can't afford to rent a place then something must be wrong. The only wrong was my assumption about truck food. I was on my way to a new place I only saw on Google Maps. E&L Supermercado. I had gotten off the bus and was walking down Vernor toward the market. I looked at the truck, and scoffed. Saw the line and thought everyone on line was a loser. Hmmph. I had not eaten lunch. There were options. Mickey D's and BK. I didn't come down here to eat there. I wanted some Mexican. Then the aroma hit me. Was that coming from the truck? So that's the reason for the line. I fell in to line and when my turn came ordered 1 taco. It took 5 minutes to get made, but the wait was worth it. Heaven on a tortilla. While I was waiting for my order I happened to hand a burrito to a guy in a waiting car.It weighed 3 pounds and looked like it could feed me for a week. Price: 4.75 mega cheap. My taco was heavenly. I disowned the pseudo Mexican places. I will never utter the words Taco Bell or Del Taco again. Truck food? You betcha. read more

Taco truck - a little bit more reminiscent of the LA taco trucks than the Oakland ones i am forced to eat at. The shrimp quesadilla was yummy. Good amount of shrimp and cheese. i imagine that any type of meat in this one would be on point. I also had a pastor taco and an asada taco. good overall. the salsa i was not impressed with and they did not provide any of the pickled carrots and jalapenos i so love and associate with the taco truck experience. I'm not tempted to go back, especially cause the 60+ year old man with messed up teeth in there thought he could hit on me and get away with it! read more

I confess, the chicken is good. Outrageous shrimp quesadillas. FAST. I know it's been only 4 weeks since my initial 3-star review. But I've changed my ideas and my ranking of El Taquito based on further research. I marveled at the cabeza tacos last time, which is still my go-to meat choice, but I also ridiculed the chicken tacos... in fact, i called them the worst ever. Well, so offended was I by the chicken taco experience that I made a point of finding the best chicken tacos in the neighborhood. What I discovered is that this dry chicken phenomenon seems to be the desired effect. *Everyone* is making the chicken tacos on the dry side... why? In any event, as I made this discovery, I quickly came to the conclusion that among this style of chicken, El Taquito does it the best. The flavor is so amazing. I just make sure to douse the thing in salsa, but I've really come not just to like but to actually crave the chicken tacos from El Taquito... how unpredictable was that? Also, I've since discovered that they sell quesadillas de camaron (shrimp), and those are fantastic, nothing like you've come to expect by eating at the dumps beside the highway. If you don't eat meat but you can eat fish, this is a MUST TRY. They also sell tostadas de camaron, which are tasty, and ceviche, which is excellent here, always tasting of a heavy amount of lime juice which I love. And always served in record time! Eat alongside the truck, or have them pack it to go. If I'm not wanting to sit down and pound some beers with my food, then this is my quick-taco-fix pit-stop. read more

I usually stick to the quesidilla as the gooey queso expedites the food into my mouth without falling apart. Of note are the shrimp, al pastor and the carnitas. thanks to my BF and my adventureous streak i am more than willing to try anything new. of course, i've always wanted to try these food trucks that i kept hearing about. this particular one happens to be close to my BF's shop and he goes here quite often when working. one day while roaming around sw detroit for the day and me being hungry (all the time) we ended up at the food truck. total surprise for me cos i just follow when it comes to food. anyways, i tried their tacos asada. omg- very good stuff. so much flavor in the beef and it comes with grilled veggies (usually onions and jalapenos) and fresh limes and radish. i'm completely hooked and always order them. tacos are $1.25 each which is pretty decent- i usually order 4 and i'm full i've tried their burritos, quesadillas and tortas, too. the quesadillas have good flavor. the tortas have something left to be desired- i don't think i'll be eating again. the burritos!! my goodness- they're ginormous and bursting with flavor and it's a good deal at $5.50 i've gotten my sister hooked on the food truck, too. forget taco bell. i don't think twice when i want some good tacos- too bad there's none in my area but i guess that's what makes the drive to sw detroit/mexicantown feel like an adventure. read more

This is one of the first places my friend found on yelp that i had'nt previously heard of. This is probably the best taco truck out of the dozen or so i taquerias have been to in the area. The quesadilla camerones is the all star. The burrito is as big as your head and is packed full of og mexican goodness. I usually stay away from the pollo and asada because they both are traditionally a little dry from sitting in a steam pan at most taco trucks, but if you peep your head and look at the line, you can tell if the just prepared it if it's full. I stick with the al pastor, nice and crispy. If you are feeling frisky, order the lengua. The service is usually pretty silent unless you order in spanish. A little por favor and gracias goes a long way in SW D. I love mexican cokes in glass bottles, and they have them there, cooler than cold. I usually go to the supermercado down the street and pair up my lunch with a little flan and some churros. Be on the lookout for dingos, for some reason i have seen loose dogs around the truck a bunch of times and it freaks me out a little. read more
