I've been here twice already, the first time service was good, food was good, I had no problem. The second time one lady didn't have any gloves on and she's flipping burritos and tacos with bare hands. I made sure she didnt make my food. Another lady had an attitude with me, granted, I did change my order, but it was before she even started making the food. And when I called her out on her attitude she kept going back-and-forth with me. just off the sanitation alone or lack there of, I'll never be back there again. Do not recommend. read more

I ordered two quesabirria tacos and a super shredded chicken burrito here because I was hungry and feeling like a big back. The tacos were SO GOOD but unfortunately did not have any cheese which was slightly annoying hence the term, "quesa". The burrito was insane. It was huge which I appreciated but after I unwrapped the foil it fell apart to pieces in my hands. It was very dry with no real flavor. I ended up tossing it bc it was not enjoyable at all. This was our second visit. The first time , 3 weeks ago The super Al Pastor burrito was huge and delicious. The carnitas tacos were good also. So we returned today for a Super and regular Al Pastor burrito and we were disappointed. The Super was skinnier than the regular with no guacamole and just a dab of sour cream and cheese at the end. I have ordered from this Taqueria many times before and the food is always been very good. I had one issue today. I received an email for a birthday meal because it was my birthday this month for a free super burrito when I got there after placing the order online as they requested, it seemed that the offer is not valid anymore, so I showed the cashier. Her name is Adriana. She called the manager. She fixed everything so quickly she handled the problem with the quickness, no attitude no nothing very professional, very courteous and kind and all the workers kudos to the kitchen because the food was excellent as always I ordered a super burrito Tripas , my husband ordered Carne Asada burrito and Management gave me the extra burrito, I asked for the discount on the order that I had placed instead of a whole new burrito, but Management with the quickness handled everything professionally if you haven't tried them, you have to it's delicious! Food was not good at all. This used to be one of my favorite spots to get tacos and now I am highly disappointed. I always used to go to the San Leandro Location, but when I found out there was a Hayward location I was happy to check them out. This has been the second time their food has not been good. Tacos are lacking flavor, tortillas were stale & it just doesn't taste like the way they used to taste. I got steak and trips tacos and neither were good. I have been going to this place for years, but today I had one of the burritos de carnitas. It was flawless. Since I ordered it through Uber Eats, it allowed me to receive an extra for free. I devoured both. I was very grateful that they threw in chips and salsa for free. This specific time enlightened my experience with them, since I typically visit metro taquero near the movie theater. Very tasty, I have recommended to my friends and I'll be visiting more soon. These tacos are the ones known from Oakland. A food truck in a neighborhood that probably isn't for the faint of heart... But today you can get them in downtown Hayward, San Leandro and even if your on holiday in Vegas - they are convenient on The Strip. This location is in downtown Hayward. The Tacos taste the same no matter the location. I've had them at all locations and the only difference is the ambiance and maybe the interaction when you order. The original (or at least original to me... I don't know the official story or the timeline in which they expanded) is in Oakland. Its a food truck that is near the Smart and Final and a bunch of other competition - so you know it has to be good in order to survive. No longer do you have to go to this location. That one is a longer wait and harder to order. This location in downtown Hayward is less chaos and who ha on a random Friday or Saturday evening after bar hopping. Downtown Hayward has a lively bar scene and I wish this would be closer to Dirty Bird or Glenn's pizza joint. The building itself is so much nicer than it has to be. Tacos are fresh and delicious. The turnover of meats and overall popularity of the place ensures freshness which is the most important thing. Other competitors might be Fat Boys or Susy Q's. If your a few blocks away drinking in downtown Hayward its worth the extra walk of a couple blocks. read more

Pretty good taco place in downtown Hayward!! I went with the taco bowl, they put the sour cream and guacamole on the side for me. It was pretty good, they gave you enough, along with the chips and salsa. Relatively fast service, the day I came it was not too crowded. Was hungry late night and had to feed the whole household so we decided to come here since we were all in the mood for Mexican food. The cashier was really nice and helpful and the food was ready in like 15 minutes! Not bad for a big order I was expecting it to take longer. I personally didn't eat the tacos I had a steak and shrimp burrito I would say it was a 2 out of 5 honestly. It was the best burrito I had but it was alright and couldn't complain. Yup, carnitas super burrito like I always do the first time, Im Trying a new place. Because if the Carnitas is no good, nothing else will be. The smile on my face started when I seen the size of this burrito. And the smile from ear to ear took place after the first bite. Wonderful flavor. The tortilla was grilled. Everything inside was well distributed so every bite was consistent. I'm 3/4 of the way through it now and I'm full. I did add avocado. I would definitely go back or re-order from tacos El Gordo again. If I had one negative thing, the chips were just OK. But the salsa was great. Came with a delicious spicy grilled jalapeño and onion. Stopped by to try the tacos while visiting the farmers market. Had two tacos de lengua (tongue),they use small corn tortillas and a lot of meat. Most of the meat falls off the taco when you lift it up. They give you chips and a small cup of salsa. Salsa has more tomatoes than peppers so very mild. This Tacos El Gordo is in downtown Hayward, They took the corner, where Los Pericos Grill was. There is plenty of parking here - there is parking on the street, in the plaza lot, or nearby in the parking garage. It is bright and spacious inside - not the cleanest looking though for a new spot. The service was horrible - I was trying to make an order, but the staff kept talking amongst themselves or ignored me as they were on the phone without letting me know nicely to wait. I ordered the super burrito with steak. It was not the best - it was a bit dry and plain, so I had to smother it with sauces (and I am usually not a sauce person). There was not much steak in the burrito either and I wished that there was more cheese inside as well. Overall, the food was not that great compared to their San Leandro restaurants. read more

So a few things about a few things: So many taquerias use white corn tortillas which have a completely different taste, than yellow corn tortillas. And then there's Oakland's own, La Finca tortilleria which makes a darker yellow corn tortilla and has a much more prominent taste, compared to others. These tortillas are used at Tacos El Gordo. So get ready ... Then there's the salsas. Most places make their salsas very mediocre, and truly are lacking sabor. Tacos El Gordo's salsas are absolutely amazing. Sure, there's a ton of taquerias out there and you'll have to run through alot to learn which ones stand out. But if you're ever in Hayward, make your way to any of the Tacos El Gordo. Your order comes with fresh radishes, roasted onions, and a roasted serrano chile for those who go where Eagles dare. Like me. I order my tacos without salsa, so I can add add my own from their variety. Be sure to try their roasted Habanero salsa on your tacos. Absolutely superb. Ordered the asada tacos, for a new place I always go with the basics first and then if that's good, expand on the menu and order other items. Order was delivered quick so that was a plus! I thought this place was a branch of the Tacos El Gordo in SoCal and NV so I wanted to try but then I realized they were different franchisee despite the same name. I got the al pastor, asada, and lengua regular tacos. Their tortilla was very consistent with what I've had - corn with a little bit extra texture/thickness. Their asada was my favorite out of the 3 because it was very flavorful and well-seasoned. The al pastor was also marinated well but it came out to be a little drier than expected. The lengua pieces were diced smaller than I had hoped but they were soft and chewy overall. Their tacos also came with grilled onions, peppers, and radishes. Their horchata and chips/salsa were both pretty standard and I also got to try my friend's churro cheesecake! Their cheesecake texture is a little different from your typical cheesecake - definitely more chunky with cheese curds but with cinnamon and glaze on this one. There wasn't much of a "churro" association so I wish they gave us little bits of churro or at least something crunchy. Staff were nice and food came really quick. This location was clean and spacious with lots of window light and seating. Overall their tacos were pretty solid! read more
