My husband and I stopped by this El Tina on a really cold day, looking for something warm and comforting, and the experience was mixed but overall pleasant. He ordered the sancocho and I had the mondongo. The service was a strong point. Our server, I believe her name was Elba, was polite, kind, and attentive, which always makes a difference, especially on a chilly day when you just want to sit and warm up. My husband really enjoyed his sancocho and appreciated that they don't add carrots (or potatoes), which we personally don't like in sancocho. That alone made his dish a win. My mondongo, on the other hand, was just okay. I would call it standard, but the flavor didn't quite hit for me. I didn't love the taste, and while I still ate it because we were hungry and cold, I've definitely had much better mondongo elsewhere. Overall, the service was good and welcoming, which is why I'm giving this place four stars. Lunch on a Wednesday afternoon with a party of four (colleagues and manager) we all ventured for Dominican food in hopes of fulfillment for a good foodie experience. Food calls for people merged together from all cultures, ages and backgrounds coalesce to formed a unified setting for a healthy processed positive workplace environment. 'Cause as humans we live and eat where food is certainly a motivator. During the passage of my Sisyphean Task, I glanced a takeout menu that was floating in my workplace environment and was lured for a try as I was enticed by this business name. Delivery is available for a minimum order of $10.00. Unbeknownst to me, I did not know I can cook well to own a Dominican restaurant as it bears my name! Oh! Next door there is a corresponding a juice bar with the same name... TINA. This business is accessible walking distance via MTA NYC Transit 1 train at 231st Street station in Kingsbridge, Bronx. Egregiously poor customer service! Price is excessively high which I am willing to pay but accompanied with good quality food as caveat. Their service does NOT align the food quality. The women behind the open buffet counter do not respond to customers' inquiries as I browsed the many hot food options and saw meat, "what is that? what type of meat is that?" for a dismissive tonal reluctant irascible response "It's meat! MEAT!!" Insolent! My colleague intervened: "she is asking what type of meat is that." All my colleagues and manager decided to attain the Dominican Mondongo, tripe stew soup which was good. We patiently waited for warm Casabe al ajillo bread with garlic to be served which we had to request with persistence as it is not accompanied for inclusion. I always have a predilection for garlic bread. There are a lot of staff behind the buffet hot food bar and cash register counter all actively hustling working speaking Spanish which many were very abruptly dismissive for my request of the standard sales receipt to be printed. Being busy, overwhelmed and extreme stressed with a lot of work does not give one the prerogative to be rude, irascible, dismissive, indifference and curt in a boorish wayward behavioral manner to your customers who are spending our hard-earn money giving it to your business! If you don't speak Spanish as a patron, good luck to be serviced properly with dignity for inclusion. Linguini pasta with chicken, small $9.00 The linguini was average pasta and the chicken embedded was also average. I do not taste their food to be described as "delicious." I honestly could not consume a medium size plate as their attitude for poor customer service made me very despondent and intensely dispirited. My dominican heart was content. If you want some amazing Spanish food this is the place. This restaurant serves delicious spanish food at a very reasonable price. And the portions are big. I fidnt want to cook and happened to be in the area so I picked up a few things to bring home. My kids were satisfied and there was enough food left for the next day's lunch. This spot is so good. My dad lives in the area and we have both ordered in and went to eat at the restaurant. The food is so good. Very fresh and delicious. I've also had them cater my sons graduation party. Everyone raved about the food and how yummy it was. It was also a very good price for all the food I got! They delivered on time and everything was perfect! They are your typical Dominican cuisine. The servers and ladies behind the counter are also very sweet and lovely. They are very polite. The food at this restaurant is excellent. The seafood tastes fresh and there is a great variety in the menu. Great place to sit and chat with friends, has about 8 to 10 tables. Great hot food to go, can eat-in there but never have, yet. Sometimes their rotisserie chicken is amazing, sometimes it's as dry as dust, that's the only reason for minus one star, because the chicken can be hit or miss. But when it's good, it's really good! All other dishes I've tried are delicious and pretty consistent. I really like the potato salad, all the soups, the seafood salad, tres golpes, avena, and the Moro rice. The oxtails look good, but haven't tried yet because they charge $30 for FOUR pieces. That's insane, I haven't been to any restaurants that charge that much for oxtails. Had family visiting in the area & in driving by, we spotted El Tina off Riverdale Ave & 231st. I wasn't initially enthusiastic since it doesn't offer much in the way of curb appeal but our mom insisted so off we went. Food: * Even though our party of 5 arrived during the early Friday summer dinner hour, most ordered the lunch specials. We were surprised by the generous portions so a definite plus which made for an affordable meal. * Some ordered the pollo guisado (stewed chicken) which all agreed was tasty. I got the Bistec encebollado (steak w onions). It was a tad chewy and a little dry but still palatable. One had the 3 Golpes. No complaints on that front. Service: *Could have been much better. Our waitress wasn't very attentive. She took our order and barely checked back in - definitely not to see if we needed anything else. Other folks brought out our plates. Had to request water for the table from another waitress. Ice...not from her. Salt and pepper from another. Evidently our waitress was too busy on her phone in the corner. We sat for a long time waiting for a check that we finally had to retrieve ourselves and pay at the counter. The woman manning the counter appeared aggravated during this encounter. This won't be a place known for it's ambience or service but as a local neighborhood eatery, the food was plentiful and satisfying. Constructive Critique *Thought it relevant to share this. Our family thought the food was solid enough that El Tina should be added to our rotation of neighborhood eateries. We had hoped to have an order delivered less than a week after our initial visit. We're a little less than a mile from the restaurant & despite that, they would not deliver to our home. But they certainly did so to the "tonier" side...ie Riverdale. Out of curiosity, punched in a BUNCH of addresses within a similar distance/range and much further away in Riverdale with no delivery restrictions. Color us surprised that grace was not given to the Kingsbridge/Kingsbridge Heights community. Because I had time, I even checked the adjacent restaurants next to El Tina. None had the same limitations. This is unfortunately far too common when it comes to Riverdale restaurants not servicing Kingsbridge/K Height. It's NOT a good feeling to be gerrymandered when it comes to food delivery and hoping to support a small business. Using a 3rd party delivery like Uber Eats would have increased our costs significantly. El Tina could do better in servicing the wider community comprised of their people as well - not just those perceived to be of a certain socioeconomic status and hue. read more

At one time the food was exceptional, but because of the TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, I would rather eat clay. The waitress act as if they are doing you a favor for providing a service, which isn't cheap. Pernil was salty. The place gets busy instantly. The staff who gave my food had a good attitude but as I finished my meal she became very busy. I asked for the check but had to wait for a long time. I don't mind waiting but I had places to go. So I went to the cashier to pay. Though there are staff at the counter but they ignored me. I had to call their attention and this woman gave me an attitude as if I'm inconveniencing her when all I want to do is pay for my meal. They should brush up on customer service. It doesn't take much to be kind and nice especially when you are in the customer service business. I rarely leave negative reviews because I'm a big believer in supporting local business and I really wanted to love El Tina. That said, I also feel I need to be forthcoming about the meal I ordered through Ubereats. While El Tina provides an abundance of arroz con gandules and maduros with their meals, I took 1 bite of the their 1/4 chicken lunch special and was unable to swallow it due to the abundance of salt. The same over abundance of salt is used with their salmon, as well as their arroz con gandules. Their maduros were not fully ripe and therefore not soft and sweet as they should be. While I prefer a more garlicky mojo sauce, El Tina's was very tasty and I'd happily buy it in the future and add more garlic to use as a marinade. read more

I have tried their oxtail dish on a recommendation from another customer and it was very good . I have also tried their chicken stew and this was good as well. The chicken empanada was a 5 minute wait when I ordered it once and it was a bit salty. I have ordered delivery several times and each time the order was accurate, quick, and friendly.
