Went in tonight and everyone acted like they hated their jobs, $15 margaritas were weak, couldn't get a burrito with half chicken and half beef like my husband and I love to share there because they don't make them as of a week ago because 'new management' (yet a beef or chicken are the same price' )waited 20 minutes for more hot sauce and the bartender Jose had empty and used glasses all over the bar. Wow, this place was always fine but after my last visit I will never come back! There were exactly two tables occupied and the food still took almost an hour. Upon arrival most dishes were cold except the kids meal which was piping hot, smh. The food itself was terrible. The shredded beef was more of a rancid mush, the guacamole was super runny and had never seen an avocado, even the beans and rice were bad. Absolutely horrible ! my wife's tacos were made incorrectly we asked for hardshell and the shrimp looked like it was old and slimy and smell like cat food . my enchiladas were gross oily flavorless and that imitation cheese is only good on cafeteria crappy pizza when you're a kid . the guacamole was bad in fact I am a total white boy and I could make better guacamole . forty two dollars total waste. My family and I have come here several times the service is always kind we enjoy the Sunday buffet a little pricey but a decent selection of food. The food is always hot. I feel like my main gripe here is they should really update some of the tables that have cracks and chunks chipping out of them. Regardless of food is some pretty straightforward Mexican food nothing wow but nothing terrible and I do enjoy the atmosphere. My birthday was on Sunday and all I really wanted was a chili Colorado wet burrito. My BFF and her husband brought me the best burrito I have ever had. I don't know if it was on the menu or not, but it was amazing! I got 3 meals as it was the biggest burrito I have ever seen. Party of four adults went at 5pm on a Friday. Busy but no line. We stood near the host desk for several minutes with young staff standing right there in front of us talking and seemingly doing anything they could to avoid noticing us before I finally politely said, "Excuse me," and then one of the staff turned to us and asked how many and then we were seated. The host hurriedly showed the four of us to a table, left us with TWO menus and scampered away. I went to the host station and asked for two more menus. The server seemed in a huge rush and gave no friendly greeting when he came to our table for drink orders, I was able to get my drink order in and then the waiter hurried away before the rest of our party could give their drink order (we ordered the other drinks when mine arrived). The "guacamole" (quotes because who knows what the stuff really was) on my wife's quesadilla seemed either fake, or old. In any case, she didn't like it and we asked for some fresh avacado which did arrive promptly. My arroz con pollo was very good. The flan dessert (mexican custard served warm with warm carmel sauce) arrived with no carmel sauce. I do not think I will return to el Toreo Far West as I have had much better experiences at Don Cuco on W. Avenue K where the servers are far more professional and their incredible flan always has tasty custard sauce. Concerning to me is that I do not see the restaurant responding to any Yelpers on here so I'm not sure if they do not care, are unaware of the power of Yelp, or are just lazy. I am going to call the restaurant later today as their (bare-bones website does not have any email function (they probably wouldn't read it anyway. I used to come her for menudo and brunch often. Until today! Order 3 large menudos to go. Got nothing bunch contain each of juice and bones. Nothing even edible. One container was broken spilling all over my truck. Okay still not mad at this point. I go back in to let them know. The guy was cool and refunded me right away. Then another waiter walks up to him (the guy who I originally ordered with ) says in English "what's wrong" then all of a sudden it goes to Spanish. We are from out of town (Bakersfield) and due to the high ratings of this place decided to give it a try. The beginning was 5 stars and we were excited to have found the place. Service was top notch, chips and salsa are delicious. The building is amazing and the future patio is going to be beautiful (it was under construction). I'm not sure what happened, but once our food was brought out our awesome service disappeared. Empty water glasses and we didn't have any service until about 10 minutes after we were all finished eating. At that time I asked for a box. About 10 minutes later the check came and no box. I left the bill in cash on the table just so we didn't have to wait another 10 minutes for our card to return. The food was OK. My enchiladas rancheros were covered in cheese, COVERED. It was too much and there was a layer of cheese oil underneath the mess. Husbands chili verde burrito didn't have any chili verde sauce, just the chopped tomatillos, but where was the sauce? Also, the inside of his burrito was extremely soggy because the meat is kept at too high of a temperature when it's put into the tortilla creating a steam bath. Sons chimichanga had about 3 pounds of unseasoned meat inside and quite the opposite of my enchiladas, hardly any cheese. Too much, unflavored meat. Also, none of us are a fan of Spanish rice with corn and green beans. Locals seem to love this place. Sorry, we didn't. Came for lunch and ordered a shrimp burrito and a bowl of albondigas soup. The shrimp burrito filling was really soupy with about 6 shrimps, not much flavor. I haven't been here in ages but my dad wanted to go here for his birthday celebration. We had a party of 6. Service was a little slow- it was busy but our server was nice. We did ask a bus boy if we could get our server and he said "it's busy" with an attitude and walked away, so he was unpleasant. It took awhile to get refills. 2 members of our party got the soup for an appetizer but ended up sending it back because it was way too salty. My husband and I had a small salad for the appetizer, and it was just carrots, cheese and lettuce. When it came to our entrees, my husband and I shared a shrimp burrito (it's not on the menu- i think it was the burrito supreme but we asked for them to add shrimp). That burrito was delicious. Not one complaint about it. It's a hefty serving so it only makes sense to share it. 3 members of our party ended up sending back their meal because of the saltiness issues again.
