Wanted to take a friend to lunch for her birthday and she chose this restaurant even though she had just went the day before. We met around 1:00pm on a weekday and I was surprised there wasn't a lunch rush. It was nicely decorated and clean. Specials were posted near the entrance. I decided to try the La Barbie drink special. It was just okay and gone in a few sips, lol. For my meal I got the Texas Taco Salad. It was pretty tasty and filling. My friend got the Manager's Special and really enjoyed it. The meals were enjoyable, service was fast and friendly, and the prices were reasonable. My daughter, granddaughter and I stopped here to eat. We are not from Greenwood, however.... Absolutely wonderful staff!!! My granddaughter loved our waiter. Good service, great food. They had those typical Americanized Mexican dishes and a few seemingly authentic Mexican dishes. Their menu is very extensive, so if you go there everyone in your family will find something that they like. However, it is a VERY loud place, as they have multiple birthday parties a night and they come out singing and playing instruments. If you want to celebrate something and have fun, this is a great place. If you want to come here and enjoy conversation, you may want to avoid it on weekends especially. This is a new Mexican food restaurant. They have a large parking lot, a nice covered patio with seating, and a decent sized dining area. The dining area has a full bar with seating, televisions, and Mexican music playing in the background. As with most Mexican restaurants, they serve you complimentary chips and salsa. The restaurant has a friendly staff and a very extensive menu that is full of your Mexican favorites such as burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, rice, beans, and tacos. They also have some savory Mexican style cocktails. I ordered the grilled steak mega burrito, which did not come with any sides such as refried beans and rice. It was solo. It did not take long for me to get my food. I would say about 5 minutes. It was warm. It tasted ok. it was not the best that I have had, but it was decent. The Mega burrito is huge. Wait 10 minutes before refills on chips and salsa and drinks are addressed, and not because waiter or manager noticed first. PLUS, the servers were literally spraying cleaner directly onto the table WHILE we were sitting there! It is against regulations in most cities for restaurants to spray cleaner directly onto the table for obvious reasons (I hope they're obvious, anyway), but even if it wasn't, I would think it would be pretty obvious why I don't want you spraying my table while I'm sitting AT it with a drink resting ON it. We had a fun time at El Toro! It is more of an experience rather than just dinner. We went on a Saturday night and the place was hoppin'! I would say that is the only negative I have. The volume was loud! Music loud, their birthday celebrations were loud, and everything in general loud. It was a great time, but if you're expecting quiet, this might not be the place to find it. The salsa was some of the best I've had. We ordered the Texas Fajitas and they were fantastic. Plenty of food for two people and then some. Everything was great. We got two flavored house margaritas that came out with dry ice to add a little flare! They were short a host and a busser, but as hard as everyone was working, you wouldn't have known. Had an okay experience, but don't think my family will return. It is *very* loud here for a restaurant. It's more of a sports bar that sells Mexican food in that respect. I was really surprised by how distracting it was, and normally I'm not bothered by that. But I could barely have a conversation at our table of 4, I'm sure a larger table would have been much worse. The queso was okay, just a little bland for my taste. Our meals were also okay, nothing that blew my mind but I didn't hate it. Really that was my takeaway from just about everything - "okay." I like this restaurant. The food choices were varied with so many options. I had shrimp tacos and really enjoyed them. My mother-in-law had a burrito and margarita and really liked them. I'm always looking for a decent Mexican restaurant. It came down to choosing between this one and another new one that I wanted to also try. We went there for lunch. The prices were very reasonable for the amount of food we received. The service was nice, and the food was even better. The atmosphere was calm and the decor was very subdued and pleasant as it wasn't too carnival like or bright in color like some Mexican restaurants do. I am impressed with this place. The food was very flavorful. The only thing I can say is that the ground beef they used for the tacos and anything else was very greasy. The salsa was very good, but the chips tasted a bit older or stale. It might have been the oil (older)? they were fried In. I noticed next to the kitchen there was a storage room and there was a couple of giant garbage cans with lids that said chips on it. I wonder if that's the reason? Sometimes I judge a Mexican restaurant on their salsa and their chili relleno. Both of them were very good. I was perplexed a little bit to see a pile of seasoned ground beef piled on top of my chili relleno. If I order it again I'll ask that they not put that on there. The beef taco was overfilled with meat and not much of anything else. I had to ask for a bit more of the standard toppings. The refried beans were excellent and the rice was pretty decent too. I just feel like they put a little bit more thought and effort into their food and the flavor. The presentation was nice too. We also waited quite a while for food as well so it means that the preparation was also probably mindful. When we went it wasn't very busy at all as well. Although they are not perfect, I think as far as Mexican restaurants go, they are a pretty decent Mexican restaurant. El Toro is yet another of the hundreds of Mexican restaurants dotting the landscape in and around Indy. Many are mediocre, some outstanding, however this place was downright awful. I ordered soup for lunch, that's all, plus the obligatory chips and salsa. What arrived was a huge bowl containing a clear tasteless lukewarm broth, with oil floating on top, chicken pieces, a few slices of avocado and a few bits of canned or frozen vegetables. Included with the chicken was several large hunks of skin. The avocado slices had several dark brown spots on them, so they hadn't been trimmed up before tossing them in the bowl. Chips (which were warm---good) were a mix crunchy and overly oily. The highlight was the salsa.... The service was friendly and the booth comfortable. Overall, my $12 bowl of soup was mostly discarded. Not a good value under any circumstances. The coup de grace was the pile of rugs casually dumped immediately outside the front door, that we nearly tripped over on our way out. With so many other really good Tex-mex restaurants within a mile or so from this place, I'd consider others. read more

We were greeted warmly and the server did get waters out quickly. We waited for rest of our party and didn't see server for quite a long time. We asked about the fun drinks and it seemed like they had a few but not the ones she had seen on social media. I ordered the fajitas and they forgot to bring my tortillas and it was about halfway through the meal that the server came back so I could ask for them. We got there at 7 and didn't leave until a little after 9. That's quite a long time considering most of the time was spent waiting on our server to come to us. We walked in and the music was definitely blasting, reminding me of my 20's when I would hit the clubs on Friday and Saturday nights! The drinks were good. That concludes the positive portion of this review. The choriqueso was hard to consume. It seemed like they put shredded cheese in a tiny skillet and then topped it with ground chorizo. Just shredded cheese. No cream or milk or butter. It was a stringy mess. When we tried to stir it, it just sort of wrapped itself into a ball of inedibleness. Like a rubber band ball with chunks of chorizo in it. The guacamole was not fresh. It was fine, but it was like the guacamole you buy at the store. Blended into a green gravy with uniform chunks of tomato thrown in. No spices, no discernible onion, no jalapeños or anything. Service was bare minimum. This was the blandest Mexican food I've ever eaten. The pico or something they where using made everything extra soggy and watered down the whole dish. Worse off, the cheese dip we ordered was even WATERED DOWN!!!!!! it didn't even thicken up when it got cold, it started separating!!!!!!!!! We frequent the one on Southport road often. We where pretty excited when we noticed this one when we came to this side of town. These two places are not the same. Southport has been great, I will never go back to the Greenwood location.
