I was 1.) craving a Mexican breakfast and 2.) curious what indy's Mexican breakfast scene offered beyond the spots I knew already. Voila! A little searching on Yelp and La Posada checked the boxes: less than 10 minutes from downtown, budget friendly (meals less than $10), opened at 10am and lastly, was somewhere neither of us had been before. Located on the near west side of downtown, La Posada neighbors several other Mexican eateries and bakeries along with the Central State campus. It's a small casual restaurant with less than ten tables and appears to be a popular carry out option. Beyond breakfast options, you'll find four soups on thmenu Iu, tortas, tacos and so on. The breakfast menu features about six dishes including chorizo chiliquales and huevos rancheros. I especially enjoyed the spicy chorizo chiliquales. All breakfast meals are also served with rice and beans. I'd hesitate to give it a fifth star because the flavors weren't exactly through the roof. I was on the west side attending a workshop and this place was super close by. My friend and I both enjoyed our food. I had three tacos. One with steak, one with chorizo and one with pastor. I was around 10st, and I yelped tacos. I have noticed when you are in different areas you get the results you are looking for. Living in Plainfield I don't get alot of good authentic Mexican food places that come up on my search. I found this place which had decent reviews so being from California I thought ok, I will give it a try since I know what it should look like and taste. I ordered taquitos - you can order 3 or 6 I ordered six. They only come in chicken. On top is lettuce. Cheese, and tomatoes. In California normally you would also have sour cream and guacamole as part of the order. The taquitos I would say are very good and filling. I originally had nut order to go, but decided to eat there. Instead of getting 6 I only had 5. I wasn't going to say anything because I had to have them fix a burrito. We ordered a carne asada burrito supreme. This came with steak, lettuce, beans, rice, and cheese. When you picked up the burrito it completely came apart. My friend was very frustrated, which I understood. I went to the counter and asked for a tortilla to fix myself. The lady asked what happened I told her she asked for the burrito, and she said they over cooked it. Duh. I did allow them to fix it, and could I see the kitchen standing behind the counter. So I was ok with that. Lastly, we got the dinner with 3 tacos. Its cheaper to do that, because the rice and beans that come with the meal turn out to being $1.10 more. We got the el pastor tacos. I wanted to mix the 3 tacos with a variety of meat, but you can't do that with a combo meal. The basic comes with onion and cilantro. Which is fine that's the authentic way. I don't want cheese and lettuce for an up charge. This was really good. I can tell you the rice and beans were homemade. If you made homemade refried beans before you would know. So now why the 4 stars..... remember it was originally a to go order. I would not be happy when I got home clear across town. The shortage of the taquito The burrito getting wrapped with that over cooked tortilla. (they knew better) Not having shredded beef (they have ever other kind of beef. Like 5-6 different kinds., but ground beef. Yuk) They have 3 different kinds of yummy salsa. A red spicy, green avocado spicy, and a green tomatillo very mild. I loved them all. I also got a Horchata drink. Good, but needs a little more of the powder added to it, for a full tasting flavor. Lastly, if you pay by credit or debit card they at 4% to your total charge. Bring cash. Make sure to check your order before you go. I would definitely go back. The cost though was $32.86. For a general taco shop that's expensive. I got some takeout here for the first time recently and had a generally positive experience. I was surprised it didn't appear to have much parking but it was easy to park right out front on Washington. I ordered from a very nice lady inside some tacos and chips with salsa to go and it all came up pretty quick. I did feel like it was a bit more expensive than I would have liked, especially since the chips didn't appear to be freshly made in the restaurant. The taco dinner I ordered was freshly prepared and they did have limited seating inside, although with covid and people waiting inside for their food, I passed on that. The tacos seemed a little small for the price and for some reason the onions were extremely bitter. The chicken while good was a bit bland for me and the avocado salsa they gave me also seemed a bit bland. I also covered my tacos with the bit sauce which was pleasantly spicy. Overall I liked it, but would I come back? Probably only if I happened to be driving by. There are so many other places you can go near downtown. read more

This is my Indy MVP! This restaurant is open at all hours (it seems) and provides amazing mexican food. The menu is vast with options ranging from tacos (street) to menudo and tortas. If you don't count calories and are eager to try this place definitely try the chicken chimichanga. The chicken is juicy and the queso is awesome. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with any of the tacos. They offer many meat options (including beef tongue) and nopales (for my vegetarian folk). Prices are incredible and the staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is hole in the wall and both spanish and english are spoken here. They deliver food via doordash and during this pandemic are open to carry out orders as well. HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE MEXICAN SPOT IN INDY. If you are driving down West Washington you may miss this gem because it's on a strip and it doesn't have much to grab your attention. BUT if you are around WW and Belmont, please give it a try! You will come in and it's not the prettiest place. It doesn't wow you. But it gives you the essentials which is a place to sit down and eat. Telenovelas will be playing in the background. You'll see traffic pass by. There's just this really chill feel to it all. You go to the counter and order your food and pay. When it's ready they'll call your order and you go grab it. When you are done eating you throw away your trash and put your dishes on the trays on top of the trash cans. However service is always good and quick. Do not expect to get chips and salsa at the table. This is truly traditional food. Like my mom might as well be in the kitchen. You have all the Mexican dishes you are familiar with, and some you may not be. And from my experience you can't go wrong. My absolute favorite are the chicken sopes. It's like a Mexican pizza. Sorta. Fried masa as the base. Topped with beans and your choice of meat. And lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream! AHHHHH my mouth gets watery thinking about it. And their salsas the green is my favorite. A close second is the avocado sauce because it's spicy. I also adore their tacos de papa. So simple, yet soooo good. My favorite time to come by is in the evening. And some nights they are open until 3 am. You know, for those late night cravings. Parking is off the street, or in the lot behind it, or next to it by autozone. If it's a drive for you, they also deliver though doordash! I've been coming here for about 8 years now. I'm not on Indy's west side very often, but it is known for good authentic Mexican food. We decided to try a La Posada because it was on the way. It didn't look very nice on the outside, but some of the best authentic places don't. The prices were quite a bit more than we expected for this part of town, however, it was definitely worth it. The portions were large even for lunch. And the food was delicious. They have their own menu which is really cool. If you go, be sure to get the beans and rice which comes with most meals. By far these are the best beans I've had anywhere in Indiana. read more

I LOVE real authentic Mexican tacos, they arefavorite food so I was thrilled when I saw this place was just down the road from me and had many good reviews. I called in an order of the steak taco dinner, a burrito dinner and one steak Gordita to go. Both the burrito and taco dinner came with rice and beans which I enjoyed. My total was around $24-$25 (not including tip) I didn't think that was outrageous to pay, BUT I know I can get better Mexican food at a cheaper price elsewhere. Because of this place being so close, I didn't mind paying extra. The service was very fast.. I only live 7 minutes away and left as soon as I ordered and it was already ready when I arrived and still hot when I got home. The taste of the food was good, nothing super special because it was very bland compared to other Mexican places I've been to. They also only gave us 3 tiny containers of salsa that were only half filled after I had asked for extra so it was a struggle sharing salsa between my 3 tacos, a burrito and Gordita which was a bummer. It could've been better but I'm not mad I tried this place. I will be back again to try something different. I would recommend this place to others in the area looking for a trusted, fast Mexican cuisine. Okay you guys, after trying this place a couple more times it has definitely become my go-to taco place! I think I'm in love with random taco places. My buddy treated me to this spot and we each ordered the $5.25 for 3 chicken tacos special. I also got a horchada. The horchada was a perfect balance of ricey sweetness while remaining refreshing. The tacos came out slightly crispy with fresh cilantro and onion. They were everything you'd want from basic tacos. If I had to criticize, I'd comment on not being the biggest fan of their salsas. Not a huge deal in my book, though. I think this is one of the few places in the city that still offers some decent authentic Mexican food. It's a walk-up and order, but they have tables so that you can sit down and eat there. Man I really want to love this place but to me it's just ok. I've had tacos, soups and a variety of burritos. Every time it's just been decent, the taco meat was dry, chicken and steak, the sopa carne had a ton of fat on it, horchata is overly sweet and doesn't taste homemade. On the plus side, everything is made to eat, the staff is very kind and if you check in on yelp they have a 50% offer off your order. That's a lot to like, I just wish the food held up the same way. Place is popular with the latinos, since Washington St is little Mexico there's a lot of competition. Very good food! I came to town to visit from Washington State and this was the first spot I tried here in Indiana. I was craving something Mexican and gave this place a try. I ordered Camarones a la diabla with extra spice and it was delicious and spicy! I also ordered a alpastor Gordita & added lettuce and sour cream to it. It was totally delicious. Their pineapple juice was okay. The horchata needed to be more sweet for my taste. But overall, my food choices were good. Dine in was also a plus especially during these covid times.
