The restaurant was pretty busy when we arrived, but they were able to seat us quickly, which was a pleasant surprise. Our waitress was very prompt upon seating and followed up multiple times during our dining experience which we appreciated. My wife ordered nachos supreme, and I ordered the special 3 which consisted of a burrito, beef taco and enchilada. My dish also included beans and rice. My wife and I both enjoyed our food very much and we both felt it was one of the best Mexican restaurants we've been to in quite some time. So I went to El Toro with my son after school on April 21st, for early supper. I won't be back, I believe I was ripped off and will tell you why. Also, this place is absolutely not authentic Mexican, and our food also wasn't great. My son ordered the kids plate, just a taco. We opted to get him steak instead of ground beef, and the waiter told us there would be a small upcharge for this, and we said okay. We also asked for a regular corn tortilla instead of a hard shell taco, and the waiter said that was fine, and made no mention of any type of additional cost for the regular corn tortilla, or that having a plain corn tortilla would somehow change the plate cost. I have added a pic of what the menu says was the cost for a kids taco plate. It was supposed to be $7.19, plus a small upcharge for steak, which I though was going to be $2.00 more. No, instead they charged us for a completely different plate, at $11.18, so basically $4.00 more?! What happened to kids meal pricing?! There was no warning from the waiter that asking for a soft shell instead would change the pricing completely. My son has teeth coming in and the hard shells are hurting his teeth. Also, their menu says our drinks were supposed to be $3.00 each, again, pic of their menu attached. But they charged me $5.00 each drink, My son got like a sprite/starry and I got plain iced tea. Should have been $3.00 each right? Why charge me $5.00 per drink?! $10.00 for two drinks!!! I ordered a shredded chicken quesadilla, and it was not great. The chicken was shredded and smothered in a red enchilada sauce of some sort (tasted very plain and like out of a can) and then put into the tortilla with cheese and cooked. This made for a weird saucy mess of a quesadilla. I have NEVER eaten a quesadilla, not in CA, not in TX or anywhere in between where they add sauce to the inside of a quesadilla. I grew up in CA and have eaten alot of great Mexican food, from restaurants, carts, trucks, whatever. I don't know how adding cheap enchilada sauce to the inside of a quesadilla somehow makes this "New Mexican"? Also, the beans were smooth but very bland and flavorless, I had to bribe my son to finish his beans, which I usually never have to do, this kid loves rice and beans. And on top of the beans they put a powdered parmesan type cheese, which gave them a weird dry texture when we went to eat them. We both tried stirring our beans to get the powdery cheese mixed into our beans, but this didn't help at all, just made our beans altogether gritty and bad. Also, during the meal the music that was being played was not appropriate for my 12 year old son to be listening to. There were several elderly couples in there as well and they were remarking how bad the music was. You can put on clean versions of songs and still have good music. Overall, I have to say I wont be back. Restaurants should not take advantage of people, this is wrong. My receipt is attached. Their menu pics are attached. Its wrong to trick people. I finally tried El Toro for the first time this past weekend. I've seen a lot of their videos online and this looks the a fun place to celebrate a birthday party or any other special occasions. The restaurant was cute with many neon lights with cute photo ops. I went on a Sunday for early dinner so it wasn't very busy and we were seating right away! They give you complimentary chips and salsa, personally not my favorite salsa but I'm very picky. I already knew what I wanted before I arrived so we quickly ordered our entrees and they arrived very quickly at our table. I got the cheesy birria tacos and they were some fattys! I've had many birria tacos and these ones were a bit wet but the tortilla wasn't falling apart so that's great! My mom got a chimichanga with pork and said it was very good! Very consistent entertainment from the birthday parade that seems to happen every happen 5 mins is a lot of fun. The food on the other hand is comparable it feels like it's from Taco Bell, especially the shredded chicken and ground beef however if you order something like steak fajitas they were good. El Toro is an overall good enough Mexican restaurant located in Cape Coral, Florida. As far as the ambiance goes, it is your usual Mexican restaurant type setup. The service was friendly and professional enough and the food was overall good. I am a huge fan of Mexican food and in my travels for work, I probably eat Mexican food the most. I just find that Mexican food is the most consistent in my travels. The food at El Toro was good. I went with a burrito and definitely enjoyed it. There's a lot of mixed reviews here but I believe you have to take account everyone's personal experiences with this place. I personally had an amazing time with our large group and it was exactly what we were looking for to celebrate a birthday party. Not really family friendly. Food: 10/10 Food was really good & flavorful. My husband and I ordered a beef chimichanga and a beef rice bowl. Both were super delicious and I liked that the rice and beans in separate dishes. The food was beautifully presented to us. Served fresh and hot. Everything was great! Mixed drinks were great too. I got a pina colada served in a fish cup! We absolutely had to do an airplane of shots too! The airplane of shots were so much fun! I wish I got a video of ours!! Service: 8/10 We had a very large party reserved for around 18 people. They mentioned they normally don't take reservations but they would try to accommodate the best they can. The only reason this section has a 8/10 is that they didn't seat our group until everyone got to the restaurant which made it really uncomfortable for everyone standing around in the front area by the bar when they had the table ready to go for us to all go sit while we waited for the rest of the party to get there. I'm assuming it's due to having to fulfill drink orders all at once maybe? Other than that, the hostess, bartenders, and servers were all great and took care of our large group very well. We were checked on a few times and our drinks were never empty! Service was friendly and super fun!! Came here for takeout during lunch time. You have to order over the phone as their online ordering system just said "closed" for every menu item. I ordered chicken fajita nachos and then tried to order an enchilada a la carte. They don't do a la carte so I had to order the dinner plate order of enchiladas. I wanted shredded beef and grilled chicken and both of those were upcharges. Then it turns out they do 10% gratuity automatically on takeout orders. 10%? Why? I have never heard of this before. I should have just backed out at this point but I had such a hankering for mexi and my mom, who is local, had vouched for it. The total came out to just over $55. Ouch. I went in and got the food. Interior was nice so maybe sitting down is the move here. When I got back and opened everything up the nachos were deconstructed which I'm sure many would appreciate but for me - no. I had to then build my own nachos. Now the food looked great. I was excited thinking maybe my expenditure was gonna be worth it. Sadly, a couple of bites of both dishes quickly killed that dream. The nachos didn't have enough queso it was like it evaporated. And everything was so flavorless and bland. The enchiladas were more edible but also bland and just completely lacking of any flavor. Both dishes also lacked any sort of cohesion between their respective ingredients... they both felt like plates made up of individual ingredients. Have been coming to El Toro on a regular basis since they opened. I have continued to patronize this establishment even though the prices have increased and the service has been spotty. However, after today's visit they have permanently lost my business. Their prices have increased considerably higher than the even inflation. To add insult to injury, their portions have decreased as prices increased. Service was not good at all. My server seemed bothered when I asked for anything. Like asking for a napkin caused him to roll his eyes. When I asked for an additional salsa (small ramekin) to take home with my leftovers my server rolled his eyes again and charged me. Terrible! Went here with friends. Our food came out wrong twice. Told them we would eat it since almost everyone was almost done with their meal.
