El dia 25 de marzo fui a esta tienda de el toro y compre unos frijoles charrosy los guardé en la nevera. El día jueves 28 de marzo, calenté esos frijoles charros que venían con piedras y que mordí cuando estaba almorzando, esto me causó dolor en los dientes molares izquierdos y dolor en las encías por 2 días. Ese mismo momento llame para quejarme y solo me colgaron el teléfono. Me imagino que por ser latino no le dieron importancia a mi queja, asi que les envié el inspector por poner en riesgo al cliente. Volvi a llamar y pedí hablar con el dueño de la tienda que se llama Lupe y el Gerente o encargado de la tienda (que no me quizo dar su nombre) me dijo: "que quiere que yo haga" y que "usted puede hacer lo que quiera" y es tiempo de que aun nadie me ha contactado para mínimo disculparse. Es una vergüenza que esta gente se comporte así con los clientes, cuando los clientes les dan de comer. Keep your eye out when getting meat from the butchers in the back. Cleanliness isn't their strong suit. I've seen them wipe their hands on their aprons and grab meat with their bare hands and not change their gloves when changing stations from red meat to white (not all of them of corse) but it's been a repetitive enough for me to notice and have to say something to a few of them. They need to to more careful since they can get people sick if not. Management needs to be a little more attentive with them in the back. When I heard El Toro Supermarket sold chicharon, I knew I had to pay this store a visit. Parking was insane on Memorial Day, but apparently it's always like that. Definitely bring some patience as you might have to circle the lot a few times. They had large chicharon and bite size chicharon both with meat on them. Prices were reasonable, so of course we got a pound of each. The pork belly was fried nicely, with just the right amount of salt. Not too fatty, and had a good amount of meat to them. Dipped in vinegar or hot sauce...delicious! Great for snacking. The market contained everything you needed to make a feast...freshly made tortillas and salsa, meats (cooked or fresh from the butcher in the back), spices, fruit, vegetables, pastries (cakes in the back and a wall of baked goods lined the left side of the market), drinks, utensils, etc. Compared to your typical supermarket in the area, I would say El Toro was on the cheaper side. The market is spacious, with lots of room to move through the aisles. Staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area! read more

If you don't speak Spanish and didn't grow up in the Hispanic community (like me). Then here's a few step you need to follow to get the best bread in town for the cost of almost nothing: 1. Walk into the store 2. Turn left 3. Walk all the way down 4. Admire the bread. My favorite is the cone with custard inside. And if you like to cook, tortilla here are made fresh. And definitely get some fried layer pork! It's really good add on when you do some home cook (pasta, risotto, ramen, etc.) And I am still finding new things everytime I come here read more

horrible they sold me rotten meat and when I went back to get a refund or new meat the manager refused and blamed me for "maybe letting it sit in the car" sorry excuse of a manager over 24$ worth of chicken. Authentic Mexican market with an overachieving meat counter. Take a number and try the asada!

Being from NY, I am accustomed to visiting grocery stores with an aisle dedicated to Goya products. NC grocery stores struggle in this area so visiting a latino store is a must. El Toro is a spacious store with all kinds of hispanic products. Its' main focus is mexican food and has caused my family and I to try new things. If you love Jarritos sodas, they have nearly every flavor and you can purchase it in bulk. They also have large cookie/candy and bakery sections, making it a nonstop shop for fiestas. Their produce section is also diverse. Their Goya section is a bit lackluster but they usually have what I need for cooking, just not always what I want. I will continue to shop here because it's the only place I've been able to go to that has the necessities for Spanish cooking. If you're not accustomed to eating Mexican food, I highly recommend checking out El Toro. They are reasonably priced and have a lot of items to try. They're also located right next to Taqueria El Toro, which easily has the best Mexican food in Garner. read more

I have been on the hunt for a great Mexican grocery spot since moving from Northern California. This spot is the BOMB! FRESH & CHEAP chicken, marinated flap meat, the best habaneros in the area! Hispanic grocery store with a wide selection of authentic item to choose from. Price are cheaper than at other stores and some of the item that we use are in larger sizes and helps save some cash. It the back of the store there is cooked food to choose from. We enjoyed the fresh bread, empanadas and sweets in the long case against the front wall of the store. Everyone was helpfully and the store was very clean. Much nicer than the other stores we had to choose from before. read more

This place is like stepping into a little piece of Mexico, in a very tasty foodie kind of way. They carry all the nifty specialty meats like tripe and tongue and sweetbreads and cheek and beef lips/palate. There's a carniceria in-house serving fresh pork cracklings, roasted chicken and menudo (tripe soup) on weekends. If you want to sit down and eat, hit the taqueria next door. The salsa bar is fresh and well done, with whole roasted giant jalapenos and tasty sauces and condiments. There can be a language barrier, so if you don't speak or read Spanish, you may be out of luck if you encounter something you don't recognize. The staff are very nice, but not all of them speak English. The store is clean and well organized. The bakery cabinet has fresh breads and pastries for remarkably low prices. I had been going to this market for months and didn't give it a second thought as to why they were putting tortilas in these big ice chests in the "deli" area. One day I thought hey I need some tortilias let me grab a pack from the cooler. To my shock, amazement , and glee I discovered the reason the tortilas were being put in the cooler. It was not just because it was a convient way to display them for sale. Oh no! It was to keep them HOT!!! Let me repeat that. The tortilias were so fresh that they were still HOT. They also have one of the most evil substances know to man, fresh chicharron de puerco. For the uninitated chicharron de puerco is basically pork rinds on steriods. A slice of pig cut from the skin to the meat is deep fried until crispy. It ends up being somewhat like bacon or more so fried fatback. I am certain if my doctor saw me eating it she would feel compeled to slap it out of my hand but man is it tasty. They have freshly made guacumole that is the real deal with big chunks of alvacado. It is some of the best I have had.If you don't see any in the case ask for it. It is some of the best I have had. The market also has a good butcher shop that carries a lot of cuts of meat you won't find at your regular grocery such as lamb, goat, tongue, and tripe. All of the prices are quite reasonable and above all that it has an old school neigborhood market feel to it. The owner and staff are to a person very nice, very freindly, and very welcoming even the staff who are still working on their English will still give you a freindly smile. read more

I'm a gringo that wandered in to a latino market for the first time on the suggestion of a friend. Some of the common ingredients for making Mexican food were a lot cheaper here than going to, say, Kroger. :) I pleasantly surprised my kids by bringing home a variety of Mexican candies and snacks that they wouldn't have been able to get at a regular supermarket. I look forward to coming back and trying some new (to me) things. read more

The El Toro supermarket has everything you need to create cuisine from Mexico and beyond - spices, meats, produce, sweets, salsas, tortillas are all here and ready to help you cook! If you want to cook from scratch there are several varieties of masa on offer, plentiful dried peppers, meats both fresh and frozen, and so much more! If you want less labor intensive foods there are various tamales available frozen, a little area adjacent to the meat counter with hot foods to go, and a small bakery department offering sweets and breads. They even carry blue corn tortillas in addition to white and yellow corn, and the refrigerated tortillas are made in the Winston-Salem area, too. Sodas, snacks, washing powders and other household staples are also available. While the produce section has been moved in along with the bakery department and I haven't seen their delicious flan lately, overall there's a good selection, prices are quite reasonable, and the store is well maintained. Taqueria el Toro is next door, so if you find yourself unable to wait until you can get home to cook your bounty or if you need inspiration, stop in for a bite while you're there! read more
