We made a reservation for El Tovar Dining Room, the most highly recommended restaurant in the Grand Canyon, for a Sunday brunch about 1.5 months in advance with no issues. Since this was the shoulder season, when we walked in, it didn't even seem like we needed the reservation as the place wasn't very full at all. The maitre d' stand is located outside of the restaurant, kitty corner from the hotel lobby check in. We got confused at first and walked directly into the dining room before realizing our mistake! While the restaurant states "El Tovar Dining Room is a classic, fine dining experience. While jackets are not required, please use discretion to dress appropriately (shorts and flip-flops discouraged)," we walked in with hiking gear on and had no issues. Pretty much everyone inside was wearing casual clothing in the first place. Service in general is very pleasant. Since it wasn't too busy, we were seated in one of the tables closest to the large picture windows overlooking the Grand Canyon. Pancake Trio ($15) - This dish includes three pancakes stacked on a plate with a small cup of honey butter mixed with pine nuts, making a decadent treat. On the side lie two small pitchers of syrup; one a natural Vermont maple, with plenty of maple flavor, and the other a prickly pear syrup, fruity and sweet. The pancakes from bottom to top: an orange blossom infused batter, making a fluffy pancake with delicate orange notes, in the middle a blue cornmeal pancake, somewhat dry and gritty but with interesting flavor and texture, and finally on top a typical fluffy and tender buttermilk pancake. It's a very satisfying and delicious meal with plenty of variety. (5/5) Daily Special Biscuits & Gravy ($15) - The waitress recommended this for us and unfortunately neither of us thought the dish as a whole was very good. Everything on the plate was kind of a mess. The biscuit is a drop biscuit type, baked well until the exterior becomes crusty. The interior is actually too moist, so it's almost mushy in texture, which is not what I want in a biscuit. The gravy is fine. It's spiced appropriately with plenty of diced onion and some pieces of what seem to be sliced breakfast sausage logs. They are a bit sweet, perhaps maple infused? The eggs we asked for over medium, which the chef actually did pretty well. One egg is more towards over hard and the other one is towards over easy, but both are pretty decent. The problem is with the amount of oil used to fry the eggs. There's a thick sheen underneath, making the plate completely glossy, which also makes the eggs very fatty and greasy. The same thing happened with the potatoes. The potatoes seem to be cut in house, with larger and smaller cubes of waxy yellow potato. They have a very uneven fry, with some being tender, others still being somewhat raw and hard. The potatoes are seasoned well, but again they use way too much oil, leaving behind a greasy and oily mess. I don't normally eat eggs/potatoes with ketchup, but in this case, both needed the extra acidic zing to balance out all the fat. (3/5) Daily Pastry Sticky Bun ($8) - This is served warm with plenty of butterscotch dressing the top. The butterscotch has a pleasing burnt acridity that really balances well with the sugar sweetness. Embedded into the sticky topping are some crunchy oats for texture. The sticky bun itself is a super tender and warm brioche, rich with plenty of cinnamon. It's surprisingly not too sweet and is a delight to eat. (5/5) I was really surprised at the quality of the food from El Tovar. Given the relatively low ratings, I thought it would be terrible reheated Sysco type of food, but it seems like El Tovar takes their dishes and cooking seriously. Bathrooms - None in the restaurant itself. There are larger rooms with multiple stalls down the stairs across from the hotel check in.

Visited here for some beer at the cocktail lounge. Really good service amazing atmosphere. You can take your drinks and go out into the main lobby or outside and admire the Grand Canyon. Our waiter was John who was a really good conversationist. I liked the local beer which was brewed in Flagstaff.

The El Tovar Dining Room is a historic, premier restaurant at the Grand Canyon's South Rim, known for its rustic elegance, Oregon pine and stone decor, and stunning canyon views, especially from window seats! My family was overjoyed when I told them we were having brunch here! The hotel itself is quite spectacular- with Native American murals and high ceilings, not to mention the deer and elk head mounts that are showcased on the walls of the dining room. Very aesthetically appealing! It truly is the crown jewel of Historic National Park Lodges. Reservations are highly recommended and often required for dinner, with priority given to hotel guests. Staff are friendly and helpful. And the service was great! We ordered the crepes (recommended by our server)- the crepes were paper-thin, velvety, and buttery, featuring slightly crisp edges (just the way we like it), topped with walnuts and fresh honeydew! Pure deliciousness!

We were visiting the Grand Canyon and stopped in El Tovar for a late lunch. We sat in the cocktail lounge. The service was good and the food was good too. The view was nice even sitting in the back by the bar. If you are in the area give it a try. We tried : lobster roll , pork sliders, fries - there was a yummy garlic aioli with the fries which was tasty! Prickly pear margarita was great!

Historic Facility in Grand Canyon Village. Make Reservation, arrive early at least an hour prior to and parking can be a real problem, no valet available, Amy, Receptionist, Dayna, Server, Dee, The main Server. Love the Service and attention to detail. Dan the manager came by and visited with our table answering a ton of questions about El Tovar. We will return.

I had lunch in this lovely room yesterday. It was early and I was seated at a window looking out across the grounds and into the canyon - what a treat! My server, Ernesto, is stupendous! His assistant Owen never let my water glass get empty. As a team they really spoiled me with excellent service. I had the chicken salad sandwich and I would order it again. Loaded with chunky chicken salad containing almonds and generous amounts of onion lettuce red pepper tomato with a pickle spear on the side and on a ciabbata roll. The chilli is wonderful too - a departure from the norm as they put it over a little bit of rice but it works quite well together. I can't wait to return for breakfast !

Made reservations with El Tovar while staying at the Grand Canyon. Overall, our whole experience was below neutral. Online reservation was difficult. I would say that I made a reservation for 2 a month earlier and had to book earlier (5:30pm) than my desired time. A couple weeks later, we had another couple join our trip and revising the reservation was not possible so I booked another reservation (5:00pm) for 2 for the couple. I showed up at the restaurant 30 minutes prior to the first reservation and asked if it was possible to get a table for 4 for either time slot and was told by the host that it could not be done because they expected to be full. Understandable. When it was 5pm, the party of 4 arrived and I asked again if we could eat together with a new host to which she said yes. The restaurants dining is a large room and 80% of the room was empty. My party, along with 2-3 couples and a single diner were placed at the side of the room that didn't have the Grand Canyon to view. It made no sense to me because the establishment wasn't even full.. Chris was our server and he was alright. Food was overpriced and underwhelming. Our party ordered the ribeye special, elk bolognese, cheese tortellini, and strip steak that came out to $200+. Tortellini was extremely salty because of the salami. The bolognese noodles were overcooked spaghetti. Both steaks were requested medium well but ribeye was medium rare and strip was well done and tough. Even the house bread was dry. I was already expecting that the food wasn't going to be amazing but with the disappointment of not even being able to see the sunset was just icing on the cake. If I had the choice, I'd have a packed meal outside in the cold and save the money.

I've been very fortunate enough to have eaten at many national park restaurants, and El Tovar is definitely top tier - the food was excellent for a national park restaurant and the views and ambiance are amazing. The El Tovar Dining Room has a majestic historic feel to it, very comparable to the Ahwahnee Dining Room. I had the french onion soup, followed with the lamb chops, and they were both very good. It really hit the spot to enjoy a fine dining dinner at El Tovar after a long day of hiking.

This is a review for the restaurant inside the El Tovar. First off, if you plan on coming for lunch and dinner make sure to have a reservation at least a day in advance . Morning breakfast you are able to come any time without a reservation. I ordered the Traditional Navajo taco with a black coffee and glass of Spring water. This dish was amazing. I looked up how do it at home just so I can make it myself whenever I'm feeling like a chef! You will not be disappointed. The coffee here is the first time I've ever had organic coffee and it's opened my eyes to become more of a coffee enthusiasts. It doesn't even need cream or sugar. It's delicious as is. The spring water is local and very good as well. Wish I could buy bottles of it to enjoy on my trip. This place has an amazing view outside the diners glass of the Grand Canyon for you to enjoy. Must have experience to complete your journey to the Grand Canyon .

Located at the top of the Grand Canyon Village. Beautiful views. It is also a hotel. Reservations are recommended but you can try as we did to just wait for next available. Food and service were very good.

Loved, loved this place. So I'm not sure how many national parks you have eaten at but this place is great. The staff is great the food is awesome so really if I could give them more than 4 stars I would. Leaving photos so you can see what we ordered and what it looked like. Make a reservation and go!!!

Had an amazing breakfast at El Tovar Dining Room! Our server was very nice and super quick with service. The vibe of the restaurant fits the historic theme of the hotel. We could also see the Grand Canyon from our table which was incredible. The omelette was so good, loved the cheese in it. The potatoes were well seasoned and were perfect with the jalapeño hot sauce. My husband loved his huevos rancheros. Definitely recommend this spot for breakfast if you can fit it into your trip!

So I've had breakfast, lunch and even Christmas dinner in the dining room. While it is listed as the fine dining establishment at the Grand Canyon, it's not fine dining in the traditional sense of earning a Michelin star. However, I could see it competing for a bin gourmand if the guide ever made its way to the National Parks. So the menus are diverse, well prepared and have a variety of local ingredients incorporated. You really can't beat the view overlooking the south rim... and then there's the service. The two servers we had, Tom and Hilary, were some of the warmest, kindest servers we've ever had. If you're lucky enough to snag a reservation, know that you're in for a very good meal in beautiful surroundings. It's well worth it.

Ask the Community - El Tovar Dining Room

    Can we share a plate?

Yes a lot of time we will order salad a main and dessert and split them all. My photos should have photos of the size of the main course to give you an idea of the quantity of the plates . Of course it always depend on what you feel is a good…

    Is there a children's menu?

Can you order off the lunch menu at dinner time?

No, and don't ask, they treat you like a 2 year old when you inquire about something.....

I was wondering since there is a dress code for dinner are shorts still acceptable? I don't feel like dressing up while I'm visiting the park.

Shorts are perfectly fine - especially in the summer/warmer months. It is a family dining hall, so there will be people in different attire.

Does anyone know if El Tovar is opened for Christmas dinner? Many thanks!

In the age of pandemic, no one will know until the last minute since its operation will depend on the restrictions imposed. I would not be planning my X-mas gathering at any place in the country without a plan B.

If we dine at night will we be able to see the view or will it be too dark?

It will be too dark...There are no lights lighting up the canyon

Is there a special Thanksgiving feast?

They do have a special Thanksgiving menu! There are no reservations for the holiday- it is first come, first serve. They will post the menu about two weeks before Thanksgiving on https://www.grandcanyonlodges.com…

Does anyone know how late they serve dinner?

Between 9:30-10, but I would recommend going way before that to fully enjoy your meal and not feel rushed because they're trying to close.

What hours are lunch served at El Tovar Restaurant and do they take reservations? I know they do not for breakfast. Thanks in advance

qLunch is served until 3:00, but they do not take reservations. They will take your number and call you when ready. We spent the time in the Hopi house looking around.

Located within Yavapai Lodge in Grand Canyon Village, my partner and I stopped at this establishment for lunch in June. Yavapai Tavern is a casual, charming stone-accented watering hole offering a selection of regional craft beers, specialty cocktails, and a limited pub-grub menu. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Basically, one orders food at one of the registers, gets a table number, pays the bill, and leaves an optional tip. We decided on the American burgers, one with Provolone cheese and another with American cheese, including an optional side of house-made potato salad or macaroni salad. Our meal was absolutely delicious, cooked perfectly, and full of flavor. However, the wait for food was long. Prices were affordable, especially considering the location inside the park. The staff was helpful when asked directly. This place also seemed to be less crowded than most other restaurants. While there weren't views of the Grand Canyon from the restaurant itself, the atmosphere still contributed to a nice dining experience.
