Yesterday I walked to this restaurant because I craved authentic Cuban food and I left happy. Reading the reviews I was nervous being darker skin (since people said they discriminate) but I pushed that to the side and said let's connect through my love language...eating. When you arrive there are two doors, one for pickup orders and the other door is to sit and eat. I decided to sit and observe the environment. I noticed a lot of family and friends and lots of people who chose to sit outdoors versus inside. The service was swift. My waiter was sweet and had my order out in less than 15 minutes. The food is phenomenal! I ordered steak and eggs. Normally I request salsa or hot sauce but the chef literally seasoned the meat and egg to perfection. The potatoes were the star with hints of rosemary and tyme and diced onions, they are seriously delicious! I followed my meal with a beef empanada. Now the beef was slightly over seasoned but nothing to be upset about .. it had to be good because I ate the leftovers later in the day and the food was cold , which says a lot about the crust , flavor and texture of the empanada. Overall I rate the restaurant 5/5. They have Apple Pay and clean tables a booths what more could I ask for! Go check them out , don't let the other reviews scare you away! read more

This review is based on the side part of this establishment called "La Ventanita Cafecito". After eating lunch, my dad and I wanted some good Cuban coffee. If anybody knows Miami, you know you can trust and get some good coffee from a little window in a cafe, so I was happy to see something like this in Aventura Mall! We waited a little as there was a line. The employee was super nice and friendly and did our coffee well. I will say that my colada was underwhelming. It was great coffee but it wasn't that Cuban Miami coladito. My dad's cafe con leche (milk and coffee) was legit, however. Will I be back? Yes! But not for the coladito. Lol. read more

I frequent Aventura Mall and I have an absolute soft spot for El Tropico Cuban Kitchen. Always flavorful and delicious, I can't resist enjoying lunch here. My favorite is the Ropa Vieja with rice and beans. The general manager, Maria, took care of me and she was attentive, high energy, and helpful! Not fresh pastries. Waited 10 minutes for a still undercooked bread and butter. The meals are delicious though. The lady who sure acts like the owner doesn't even listen to you she is too busy critiquing the place. Just tried a "colada" from la ventanita that is part of el Tropico and experienced the worst excuse for Cuban coffee I have EVER tried. It was given in an uncharacteristically large cup for colada- think tall or grande size from Starbucks with coffee filled almost to the rim. When we poured the coffee into the little cups to try, the coffee was see through. Clearly not colada as the volume and ratio of coffee was way off. Went back to request an actual colada and was told that's how they're told to prepare it... colada was then remade the exact same way. Sad excuse for Cuban coffee from a "Cuban" restaurant, especially in South Florida. read more

Was walking around Aventura Mall for a little bit, decided to check out the food court since I was getting hungry. Was in the mood for a little cuban style plate so I went with El Tropico. This is a build your own plate type of place. You pick your base, i.e., rice or greens and then pick your two sides and a protein. Some of their meat options are beef, chicken and pork.... I went with the chicken, some yellow rice(congri), and my sides were fried plantains and soft plantains with a coke. The rice, or at least for my plate, gets topped with jalapenos and red onions. Just an FYI for those of you who may be allergic, might want to tell them to leave it out. I'm not a big fan of jalapenos but decided to go with the plate as is and it was not too bad at all. Plantains were good, both the hard and soft ones. Chicken wasn't bad either, it seems as though it was marinated in some sort of citrus mixture as I tasted that with each bite. Service was not bad at all. Everyone seemed nice and I didn't received any bad vibes from anyone. I was taken care of and was on my way pretty quickly, didn't have to wait to long in line. Seating is what it is, it is a food court after all. If you're in the area it's worth a try if you're looking for some cuban style food. Cuban food what's not to like, never eaten here before we just happened upon the place in the food court, so many choices but again Cuban food was calling and when that happens you must just do it and dig in. Just standing in line to order the rich aroma of the food was teasing me, thank goodness the line wasn't long and it was moving. Friendly people at the counter took our order with a smile....these days people don't smile so you notice it when they do....but with so many choices what to order? I made sure I order something different from my partner in crime for the day so I can steal some of his food , sharing is caring just in case you didn't know. I ordered Ropa vieja with some white rice and platano Maduro frito, my intrepid companion had lechon asado with congri and fried plantains. All in all the food was good tasty, the plantains were done right....yummy....I could just have an order of plantains and go to town with it. I'm glad we stopped there, build your own quickly an efficiently, good service, good food, why are you people in a food court? Time to break out the white linens and the fine china. Now that I think about it I have to see if they in my site of town I don't want to be deprived and not grow up straight Buen provecho. read more

This is on Collins in the heart of Sunny Isles / North Miami. The ONLY complaint it the lighting is a little bright, bring it down and there would be a little ambience. Use to get food here pretty often since I work nearby. Went yesterday because it was the only place without a line, and the lady behind the counter was not wearing a mask at all then she put on gloves and started cleaning the counter so her un masked face got even closer to the food, she didn't seem to speak english or was just straight up ignoring people then she went to chat with the lady making coffee so she was spreading her germs all over, finally a third person came out to help and she was wearing her mask under her nose. Ended up not getting food there, I take my health and my coworkers safety seriously so I will not be returning. If this is what they show the public I don't wanna know what goes down in the kitchen and what might be getting into the food. read more

All I can post is about my first experience here. They didn't have beans and had to find out after I ordered the white rice, instead of them telling me they didn't have beans to begin with. The food was cold. The boiled Yuca was TERRIBLE! The worst I ever had at that. I don't know about u, but I'm not used to any lemon taste on boiled Yuca. It was sour ugghh. The tostones?... TERRIBLE! The worst tostones ever. They tasted like they threw them in the microwave. Soggy and cold. Tostones supposed to be crunchy/toasty. The chicken was ok and was the only thing that was actually hot. The portions they served were actually good for the price, but! The quality of the food was literally terrible. Or at least my first experience. Man and I was actually excited they opened a Cuban spot in the food hall, but man. This place is actually helping Pollo Tropical look really good right now. This place is really really good! Not really sure why the rating is so low. The food was excellent and fresh. The manager was so nice and took the time to talk to us. I hate posting bad reviews but this place is terrible. Cuban food is largely a commodity--normally a hard to mess up comfort food. I ordered masitas de puerco. Somehow they were dry and greasy at the same time, like they'd been left out all day (even though it was just past noon). Im not trying to be hyperbolic but probably the worst I've ever had. Rice was tasteless and overboiled. I threw it all away and went to another restaurant in the food court. I let the manager know but she seemed unconcerned. Food is usually pretty good! The service is ok, from the females, the two young guys are bad for business, completely shit service, they don't care and aren't afraid to show it. Just got some pork, they gave me scraps and I asked for an extra slice, had to pay $8 for it, just so you're aware. Portions are great, but not for the protein - it really depends on who is serving you. The food will be good, but the service will leave a bad taste in your mouth. I just order a " a Cuban stake sandwich ( pan con beef stake ) the bread was not Cuban bread, the steak was burn, cold and dry, and it was over season with pepper??? I stopped here at the ventanita for Cuban coffee while I was doing Christmas shopping and needing a pick me up. Maria was THE NICEST person in all of Aventura Mall during what must have been a busy and trying holiday season. It made my afternoon, my day, and made me remember why I was at the mall on a weekend day during the holidays to begin with; kindness...........and good coffee This town could use a lot more of that, and more 'Maria's'. Being an Aventura Mall employee, and a Cuban Miami native, I was incredibly excited when I heard about this restaurant opening in the Treats Food Hall. On their first opening day, they ran out of food and had to close several hours early. There was no rice and they had run out of several protein options and were completely unapologetic to customers who were standing in line waiting to be served. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because it was their first day and I figured they would get it together after this experience. I went back another day and ordered a Colada (Cuban Espresso), and ham croquettes (only ham is on the menu). The coffee was watered down and did not taste like espresso in the slightest bit, I didn't drink it. I bit into my croquette to find that it was actually filled with cheese, which isn't even on their menu! I have coworkers who have all had unpleasant experiences just like mine, and the lack of apology from the entire staff when they are unable to provide what is simply listed on their menu ON A DAILY BASIS is appalling. Today, I went to the Vantanita at 9:30am to give their croquettes and toast a second try but was told that they did not have any and that they would open at 10am when I was previously told that they opened at 9 for coffee and toast. I went back at 10:05 and was once again told that nothing is ready with a horrible attitude. Being a proud Cuban, this place is a complete disappointment and the management needs to get it together quickly. I don't know how any of these people were hired. read more
