He was very thorough with clipping my cuticles, shaping, cleaning and massaging my feet. My pedi was fairly priced and my total service time was about 1.5hrs. The massage chairs are very comfortable. Even with 3 other customers being serviced at the same time as me, the salon was pretty quiet. This is a small, family owned salon and the quality of service is amazing. I went to three other nails salons that had no availability on a Wednesday when I came across Elaine's. I was so happy to be getting my nails done with the goal of coming back the next day to get a pedicure done before leaving for vacation on Saturday. I requested gel nail polish on my hands and regular polish on my toes. I was pissed 6 days later when the gel polish started peeling off my fingers. To make it worse, my pedicure with regular polish typically last 3-1/2 weeks before I need a new pedicure. The polish on my toes lasted 10 days and cracked. Then I had two different nail techs and both were rough so I did not enjoy the process. The product is terrible and I write this review primarily to remind myself where not to return. Not perfect but one of the better nail salons in Center City IMO. The ladies are usually able to accommodate walk-ins/same-day appointments, and I especially like the back massage they give at the end. I also find their services to be well priced. Best salon in Philly I've been to in a while! I made an appointment for 10am and was 10 minutes late but they still saw me right away! I was worried I might be a problem client as I had powdered tips previously from another salon that was difficult to take off but she was able to remove them in no time! She was gentle throughout and I didn't feel pain once.. I picked my polish and she asked me what length and shape I wanted. She made sure my nails were even, which is extremely rare to find a salon that actually cares about equal length and shape. I didn't feel rushed at all and when I was told to wash my hands another girl helped by brushing my hands and nails gently and applying a warm towel! After she applied the polish, she walked me to the drying station and I was given a quick but very nice shoulder massage! It was the first time that's ever happened which made me feel extremely pampered!! To top it off, the price for everything was $40!!!!!! I was completely shocked because for the care, time and effort that was put into my nails because most salons charge for everything including previous nail removal. I got the SNS dip powder with tips added for length, coffin shaped. I really appreciate how much time they put into the beginning process of getting your nails done; getting the cuticles off and making sure your natural nail's surface are smooth enough before applying the SNS dip powder on top. However, the one downside to my first experience here was after my nails were completed. Nail techs usually go back to filing each nail to make sure they're perfect. But the nail tech filed my ring finger so harshly that I started bleeding (shown in photo). Other than that, it was a great experience! Wowww. I'm really wondering where all these great reviews are coming from because it's certainly not nearly comparable to the shitty experience I had here... again. First, I should thank unsaid woman who messaged me here on Yelp to inform me that this place was under new management and they were having a hard time changing the name (and thus relinquishing themselves of said shitty reviews earned by "former" management) and asked me to consider going and updating my review. All I will say is lady you owe me 2.5 hours and 35 bucks! I haven't had such terrible nails since... well, since the last time I visited this place! And from my experience I am not certain there is new management here at all! Seemed just about as bad as I remembered! I came in for nude/white ombré nails. Saw them floating around on IG and was obsessed! I showed the nail tech (using that term loosely folks) a picture and she said that she couldn't do it exactly like the photo - but could get it very similar. I wear coffin shape and should've known things would be bad when she butchered that. Instead of coffin nails, I instead had uneven and misshapen nubs of acrylic. I was concerned at how slow she was working as well (dinner plans) when I'd been in the chair for an hour and still hadn't even had the acrylic shaved down. Whoa. Fast forward what felt like a billion years and we get to the paint project. She paints my nails an OPI nude and then proceeds to create an "ombré" effect using white polish and a sponge. I wish I got a photo at this point but alas I did not. This looked worse than a kindergarteners art project. This is bad, real bad...Michael Jackson. So of course I tell her to scrap the effect and just redo my nails with all nude. She seems to have an attitude about what I'm sure she considers a masterpiece and hesitantly repaints them and slowly (bout another half). I can't say the end result was pleasant one way or the other. Alas, and because I never speak thy shit-eth without valid proof please gasp at the picture I've uploaded of the dreadful claws Elaine's had me cruising about the city in. I'm almost embarrassed to even post them but the people should know! I walked around wearing gloves indoor out of fear of getting roasted for these claws! I would've taken them off same day if not for fear of damaging my nails! The torture didn't end there! As bad as these nails looked "fresh" they rapid declined and just a few days later they were disgustingly chipped and discolored (see date stamps!) I have NEVER experienced this at a shop! Also worth noting I I did NOT receive any special treatment (I.e wine, massages etc) perhaps that's for regulars or people who mention they're going to review yelp. All I can say is run away fast and far! One star is still being generous for this establishment. Oh! And I'll be waiting for lil lady who took advantage of my Yelp influenced Samaritan spirit to inbox me so I can give you my cashapp to cover this foolishness and fees for pain and suffering!
