So I've been waiting to post a review until two weeks after my gel manicure to see how it's held up... it hasn't chipped at all! I got a mani and pedi for $50 two thursdays ago. The gel manicure for $20 was a steal. She did, however, forget to put a top coat on one of my nails, which I noticed at home and rectified with my own gel kit. A few sides weren't totally done either, but I'm not expecting perfection from a $20 manicure. I'm definitely going to return next time I need my nails done. The pedi was standard, and I'm getting old so I appreciated the massage chair. However, they didn't have any lights/fans to dry your feet while getting your manicure so I ended up with weird textures from my socks on my nails and had to redo them. I used a Groupon. I want to say this place is owned by the same people as Symphony nails at 13th and Locust. I also brought a Groupon for that place and the renovation/decor, furniture, lotion, point system, and massage chairs were the same. This place offers quick and efficient service. Both my pedicure and gel manicure came out flawless and I am very pleased with that. Regardless, I am giving this place 3 stars because the lack of pampering and rather impersonal and rushed service I received. I went in on a Monday night and only 3 people were working (a man and 2 women, one older and one younger). The man did my pedicure and the younger woman did my manicure. They were unusually busy for a Monday night. Many walk-ins were turned away including a woman who said she had phoned to change her appointment was told to come in but the technicians denied it and couldn't take her. Needless to say, she left in a huff. I would definitely suggest you make an appointment; they can usually take you the same day, just have to call ahead. I felt my pedicure was rushed and shorter than others I have received. The massage chair also kind of sucked.They had a row of the newer massage chairs but it was farther into the salon and weren't being used. The feet and calf massage felt good but I wish it was a few minutes longer. While the man was putting on my polish, the younger woman interrupted and shooed him away and decided to take over painting my feet. Either he was doing it wrong or too slow because there were other patrons waiting for pedicures (and the man does not do manicures), but I did not like how she chose to cut in and rushed my experience. The same woman ended up doing my manicure. She gave me attitude like she gave her coworker and seemed mad about some thing. The color I had chosen from the sample did not look the same in the bottle so asked her if she could find me a replacement color since my toes were drying. She snapped at me to go choose a new color myself. She also kept re-positioning my hand in a rough manner during my manicure because I was holding it in a position she didn't like. She even complained about me shaking her lamp because I had turned around in my seat to look around and that motion made the table shake a bit. It made me super uncomfortable and uptight that my technician was so snappy. I also received zero shoulder massages and the hand massage I got less than a minute for both hands and pretty weak. Gel color choices were good for solids but I personally like the shimmery/textured polishes and they did not have many of those. I won't be coming back here. Symphony nails has the same equipment and give better massages and they take their time and pamper you there. read more

I happened to walk by and see the sign in the window for the $20 Special Gel Manicure. The special runs all day, 10:00 am-7:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. I've never found a gel manicure this cheap so I knew I had to give it a try! I called on a Thursday morning and was able to get an appointment for that day at 2pm. I arrived on time for my appointment, picked out a color, and was shown to my seat. There is a good selection of colors for gel, not huge, but definitely enough. There were two women and one man working. I sat down with Kim for my gel manicure. She did a great job, very quick and efficient. I enjoyed her massage at the end, hot stone included. I signed up for their membership. Each $1 you spend gets you a point. When you accumulate 500 points, you get a free manicure or pedicure. If you accumulate 1000 points, you get a free gel manicure and pedicure. You really can't beat a $20 gel manicure for Philadelphia. AND one with a massage. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and a job well done. This will definitely become my new regular place! read more

Mira Nails has become my favorite nail salon in the city. It all started when I decided to take advantage of the $20 gel manicure special that they offer from Monday through Thursday (yes, only $20!), but now it's more than just the incredible price that I go here for. It is very nicely organized and maintained. The salon is clean, bright, and spacious. There are usually two to three people working when I go, all of whom are nice and polite. I'm always greeted as soon as I enter but there's usually no further conversation or small talk - and to be honest, I like it that way. I've recently been using my manicures and pedicures as a form of relaxation so this really allows for that. The soft and calming music also helps. They offer a good selection of polish options and are constantly bringing in new colors. I'm pretty picky about my nail polish and they don't mind if I try on a few different colors before I make my final selection. Although all of the stylists are great, my personal favorite is Kim! She really goes that extra mile to make sure I get exactly what I want! Mira Nails will remain my nail salon of choice for as long as I live in the city. I made an appointment a couple weeks in advance for a Wednesday 6:30 pm. Day of, I called to change it to 5:15 no problem. I would recommend calling in because a lot walked in and were told to wait 15 mins. Which honestly isn't too bad. Mira is so sweet, patient, and knows what she's doing! I'm very indecisive and couldn't decide what color I wanted for my gel mani. I don't get my nails done often so I'm not familiar with the swatches. I had a nude blush in mind. Unfortunately a lot of the ones I picked Mira said would be sheer. I ended up picking a beautiful OPI mauve, very much not blush but I love it!! She was so quick yet detailed. To be honest I was really excited for my nails because it had been a while and I was looking forward to finally treating myself. Money wasn't a big issue but the quality wasn't worth the $100 spent. For a full gel set I was in the salon for almost 3 hours. The shapes of the nails were not really same size or anything. She didn't clean my cuticles right either. She drilled into my actual nail bed :) which showed a lot after I got them removed. If you look closely they already look outgrown after just getting them done. After a few days they grew out more and I had to take them off after 2 weeks. She said the length of my nails were "long" and charged extra... it shocked me because I don't get long and to my friends they were just normal length. The design she charged $5 extra per nail!!! She design wasn't really like what I showed her either. All in total the experience was not it. Also to add on to everything, PLEASE IF YOU DO GET ASKED ABOUT THE MASSAGE SAY NO. She literally went ham on my shoulder and back and i felt like she was trying to knock me out instead of being relaxing it was frightening. The ladies working here are really sweet, and the woman who did my mani did a great job! I'm honestly not entirely sure how I feel about this nail salon... Like maybe I'll go back if I HAVE to, but I would rather go to Coco Blue on Spruce (same price pedicures at both locations, but Coco Blue is way better). When you go you can sign up for the membership card. For every $1 you spend you get 1 point. After 500 points you get a free pedicure or gel manicure. I also saw a sign that said they can go to the hospital and pamper patients if they don't have the capability to come to the salon themselves which is very nice. While your toes are drying they give you a quick shoulder/back massage (but on the other hand, I personally don't think my massage was that great.) She also didn't ask if I wanted a massage, she just went right into it and started doing that karate chopping move on my back. They need to be careful with this because they might have a customer who has a bad back which would be no good. I do feel like my pedicure was a little rushed, and that she couldn't painted a few more coats on my nails. Other than that, I think the salon was clean and the employees were nice. Went in for a gel mani and regular pedi after purchasing a Groupon. I made an appointment, but it didn't end up being necessary. I have pretty mixed feelings about my experience. On the one hand, both my manicure and pedicure came out beautifully. I even overheard another women saying that her most recent gel manicure lasted so long. They use hot stones during the pedicure, and you get a pretty great shoulder massage while you're nails are drying. However, if you're looking for a "pampering" spa to relax, this isn't the place. Everything felt very rushed, and they skipped or seriously rushed a lot of "normal steps" that I'm used to (i.e. Letting your feet soak, or softening up your cuticles before digging and cutting at them). They were all very polite and know what they're doing, but they're all about business and getting the job done, which I respect. My go to nail place in graduate hospital. Have a membership card where you can accumulate points, they give complimentary 10 minute massage with pedicure, and for manicure a nice hot stone massage while you nails dry. Here's the best part!!!! They accept cards AND tips on cards! I never have cash on me and this is so nice. I'm used to nail salons heckling me to use cash or only tip in cash and if I don't have cash I then have to pay a surcharge for cash taken out at salon. Would recommend this to any ladies in the graduate hospital or rittenhouse area. read more

Almost didn't want to review this place lest more people see the high ratings and come in and make it harder for me to get appointments ;) In all seriousness, this has been my go to place for about a year now for gel manicures. By no means is it a fancy spa but it's clean, no chemical smells, and they do a consistently solid job. Never an issue finding a color I want, and every time I've asked for a specific OPI gel color, they've been able to find it for me easily. Once it chipped after a couple of days, but I was easily able to walk in to have the damage repaired at no charge without any questions. Some technicians are better than others, sure, but usually only need to remove the mani due to my nails growing out. Gel removal is included in the cost of a gel manicure, but there's a charge if you have a gel removal but get a regular manicure, which they weren't upfront about when I came in--that's my only real complaint in the year I've been going. Can't beat the Mon-Thurs pricing! read more

Very disappointed! I give this NO rating. I came on Thursday, for a $20 gel manicure with one broken nail and asked to have the broken nail repaired before putting the gel on. I noticed the repair was very skimpy, too thin and poorly done. Ellen, I think that's my manicurist's name, I told her it's not going to hold, it's too thin. The manager told her to apply glue, then powder, dry, then apply the gel. Ellen applied a little glue & powder but then buffed the whole process right off leaving it thin again. Very concerned at the poor looking workmanship, I said 'mmmm, does not look like it's going hold up Ellen, it's too thin. ' I was right. Gel on, paid, tipped generously, same nail broke as soon as I got in my vehicle a few blocks away. I was charged for a repair the next day Friday, though I was told on the phone by the manager I would not be charged as I expressed how thin the initial work was done. The lady who was in position of authority, same person who directed her on Thursday, the day before was very irritated as I expressed my disappointment at being told I was not going to be charged for the repair and that I had already paid and tipped generously the day before. I was diplomatic and very polite. Walked out of the salon and went to the Trader Joe's a few blocks away and noticed before I got out of the car, the index finger on the other hand was broken. Poor workmanship! I called to express my concern to the manager again! that the other nail broke. She said, I should have decided 'how thick I wanted the gel ' . Isn't that what I said on Thursday, "it's too thin." It should be noted the manager did my nails one week before Christmas, this was my first intro to gel nails, they lasted 4 weeks, no broken nails, perhaps I should have had her do the job. I hate getting pedicures. I hate people touching my feet. It's a weird dynamic, not made any better by that NY Times piece about how horribly nail techs are treated. But I like nice looking toes, so I tip well. That said, when it's your first time there, they don't know that. You know what? Too fucking bad. It's the same in all service industries. Just do your job & hope for the best. This woman was mad about something and I couldn't help feel it was my very existence. She finished way before the girl who was already started next to me. Although the woman who did my nails was very nice, the manicure was a bit of a struggle. I had a Groupon for a gel mani and regular pedi. The Mani took an hour to do because the uv lights in the table she was working at wouldn't dry my nails. Not her fault so she eventually switched tables which did the trick. When she was trimming my cuticles she tended to rip the cuticles off rather than cutting and then cut through one of my fingers. Very painful and not at all soothing. Her massage skills were good though. The shape of my nails although I asked for square ended up having the corners really sharp and I had to file them down when I got home. Color selection was great. The pedi was awesome and the leg massage was very relaxing, but it seemed the rest of the staff was having some kind of argument as there was some yelling and disagreeing going on which I couldn't understand. Kind of took away from the relaxing part of the pedi. Bottom line is, the Groupon was for $35 so it was a good deal for a center city location, but the salon I usually go to that charges $55 for the same combo does a Better job, offers free wine and is only 3 blocks from where I live. I had a pretty bad experience here last week. The salon was way overbooked and was taking walk-ins even though they didn't have enough staff to cover the mani/pedi my friend and I had made reservations for. Because of this, my gel manicure was extremely rushed - my technician didn't soak or massage my hands, and cut my cuticles dry. He laughed at and acted very put out by my few simple requests (rounded, filed down nails..pretty standard). Perhaps the grossest part was when he hit his hand on the table and used the cuticle clipper he used for me to snip off the little skin tag that resulted. When I can't make it to my regular girl, I like to try out the spots around my neighborhood. This place is a gem. The environment is peaceful, relaxing, and friendly. I felt like I walked into a hidden nail getaway. The hand and foot massage was amazing!! They use a hot stone as part of the pedicure and the massaging pedi chairs were ON POINT! The only downside is the price. It's $40 for a mani pedi and $5 extra for Vinylux polish which seems like a lot. UPDATE: Even with the Vinylux, my nails chipped the next day. That doesn't happen to me after my regular manicurist does it. :( read more

My new go to spot in the neighborhood. The salon is clean and neat. They do a good job with basic mani/pedis. Pedicures include hot stone and mini massage, manicures include mini massage as well. I went here yesterday using a groupon with my friend and had a pretty bad experience. We called in the morning as the groupon said to make an appointment. They said they didn't have anything until after 3. We made 4:00 appointments arriving on time. We were seated within 10 minutes they filled the tubs for pedicures, my friend got started but despite multiple questions and my feet just sitting in the water no one came to work with me until another half hr +. During that time attendants were arguing with previous customers about the groupon logistics and then arguing on the phone with others about an appointment. This place was very nice! They only take appointments which is a plus to me! I got there at 1115 for my 1130 appt and they took me right away. I got a gel manicure (soak off old gel first) and pedicure and was out by 115. They don't waste any time. I didn't get a massage at the end like other people said they did but the hand a foot massage with the mani and pedi were pretty awesome. I used a groupon but I would definitely go back and pay full price. The staff were very friendly and they spoke English most of the time! Even when they were talking to each other. I appreciated that as well. They had about 100 gel colors plus regular polish as well with all brands accounted for. (Shellac,ibd, etc,) If you want a design, bring a picture because they don't have any to choose from. Overall great experience! read more
