As a person with a soft-spot for the most impossibly adorable vintage shoes, I spend an obscene amount money at the cobbler. Rip in the toe, worn-out heel, old dry leather, cracks in the seams - each one I've taken to the same (very popular) cobbler in town, and each one came back with so-so results. But then I found this place. If I'd have known that Denman Shoe Repair would be run by such a charmingly sweet couple (seriously, this pair had me grinning from the moment I stepped in), I'd have dropped in months ago. He hmmed and hawed over the toe-puncture in my very favourite 70s mules, and she spoke quietly in Korean to him, smiling at me the whole time. They finally agreed on a price, but not before going back and forth between numerous boxes of leather, holding up piece after piece to find *just* the right match to my worn vintage friend. "Come back in 3 days" he told me. And three days later, I returned to find my favourite 1970s caramel-toned mules looking (dare I say) as good as new. Perfectly matched leather, brilliantly disguised stitches, and a new heel thrown in for good measure, this is by far the best cobbler I've been to in Vancouver. And good grief, they're friendly.

Turns out my heel tips got DEVOURED by Gastown and I needed a repair on my only heels. I turn on yelp for desperation and found this particular spot with good hours and a lot of positive reviews. Definitely have to agree with the other reviews on this spot. Before I go into the work he did, I have to mention this is NOT easy to find. It's not in the ground level of the building or even the basement of the building...you have to go down TWO levels to the subway entrance to find this place. Just in front of the subway entrance are 2 stores and he's just on the right hand side. I went right after the rush hour so it was pretty quiet. With his quick eye, it was clear I just needed to replace the tips.... he quickly said just 10 minutes and to come back. I can't even go down the block in 10 minutes... especially on broken heels. Less than 10 minutes later, he's done... my shoes look shiny and the heels are done up! Great thing, I think it came up to $11 including tax. Pretty damn cheap for downtown in my views. I think I've replaced them for $15 USD in Chicago. Good news, I didnt have to go buy new shoes and I could still strut around the city NOT in my running shoes. As you can see on the pic, the patent leather they used doesn't even come close to matching. On top of that, the leather was cut to a different width. When I pointed this out, they said "we didn't have that leather in stock". When I pointed out the mismatch in width, she just shrugged. Since I prepaid, I had to recourse. What I would have expected was that when they found they didn't have the right leather in stock to make the repair, they should have emailed me and told me that and asked me if I wanted to still go ahead. I also would have expected more than an "I don't care" shrug when I brought the defective work to their attention.
