Every once in awhile I find a business that I had no idea existed but can't even begin to comprehend how I ever lived without. As a person with a soft-spot for the most impossibly adorable vintage shoes, I spend an obscene amount money at the cobbler. Rip in the toe, worn-out heel, old dry leather, cracks in the seams - each one I've taken to the same (very popular) cobbler in town, and each one came back with so-so results. But then I found this place. If I'd have known that Denman Shoe Repair would be run by such a charmingly sweet couple (seriously, this pair had me grinning from the moment I stepped in), I'd have dropped in months ago. He hmmed and hawed over the toe-puncture in my very favourite 70s mules, and she spoke quietly in Korean to him, smiling at me the whole time. They finally agreed on a price, but not before going back and forth between numerous boxes of leather, holding up piece after piece to find *just* the right match to my worn vintage friend. "Come back in 3 days" he told me. And three days later, I returned to find my favourite 1970s caramel-toned mules looking (dare I say) as good as new. Perfectly matched leather, brilliantly disguised stitches, and a new heel thrown in for good measure, this is by far the best cobbler I've been to in Vancouver. did a fffing earthquake occur between the time of the repair and me picking them up? because my shoes had debris all over the inside when i picked them up. im rather peeved at the job - the workmanship is not up to par. i was charged extra to have rubber build up at the tip of the shoe, cuz they dont do taps on pointy shoes and because i wore them down. there wasn't any significant build up and it looked like the rubber sole wasn't sealed properly. It was careless. They scuffed the sides and you can see sanding done to the leather portion of the shoe now i have to clean my shoe, apply conditioner, and meticulously remove the hot glue strings. that's what get when i cheat on my cobbler tony in kerrisdale. read more

As a person who's willing to pay a premium for well-made shoes that'll last for years, and (more importantly) enable me to shop for hours on end without blistering, finding a 'doctor' to tend to the needs of my beloved boots is, indeed, no light matter. Here's my story: When I walked into Denman Shoe Repair, I found the husband working away in the back on someone's lucky shoes, while the wife came up to attend to me...both taking turns to smile and greet me "hello". I pointed out what ailed my boot, that the zipper was coming apart. The dear wife lamented that it would be difficult, unsure that it could even be repaired (oh no!) but she would try her very best and even pointed out how the repair would have been a cinch were the damage done a bit higher. But when she quoted the price, that was when I literally had to keep a straight face. Only ten bucks?? I didn't want to blurt out, "That's it? That's what you charge for a difficult repair?" One that I'm sure would cost a fortune elsewhere? And when I returned to pick it up, by golly, I hope she was proud of herself. I'm not sure how much time was spent on it (it would have taken me days), but she fixed it right up! And even told me to take extra care and go slowly when zipping. You bet I will. Though I'd rather my beloved boots remain in mint condition (wishful thinking, I know), I now know where to bring them whenever they need a bit of patching up. 18/100 Awww....too bad. I really wanted to chime in with my fellow Yelpers since this is how I found the shop, but unfortunately I cannot. Since their logo is a red patent leather pump, I thought he would have no problem fixing my Salvatore Ferragamo party shoes. He looked at them like they dropped from space. Then he hummed and hawed with a look that said they were unfixable. He then talked to the other employee in the store and said he could fix them. I dropped off the 6 y/o party shoes on Dec.8. When I kindly went to remind him about the shoes once the new year came, he said he would call when it was ready on Jan. 7th. Strike #1. It is the 23rd. It took him over six weeks. I never received a phone call to let me know the shoes were ready. Strike #2. When I called repeatedly to see if the shoes were ready they never answered the phone and the machine was full. I understand that it is loud in there he cannot hear the phone but the box full too? Strike #3 He charged me an extra $15, bringing the total to $70 (with taxes) to fix my party shoes Just to clarify I paid $45 for him to fix the shoes on the initial visit. When I went back to give the friendly reminder I asked him to replace the soles then as well. He said no problem, pay now, extra $15. I guess I should have doubled checked that he noted that down as a reminder to himself, but I did not. So I did not argue, I just paid the $15 again. Hmmm....such is life. EDIT: It is summer and I wore the shoes for the first time to my GFs bday. Guess what!?!?! The strap broke!! Had to fix it with First Aid tape at the restaurant!! The first time I went he miscalculated the heel tip, so when I wore them the first time the entire heel split in half. I returned them, and 3 months later collected them fixed. When I wore them again for the first time he had clearly used glue to repair it - and glued the zipper shut. These had been my favourite several hundred dollar boots. Simply due to the convenience of the location I took a simple pair of work shoes in to get re-heeled. This was about 2 months ago, but I only wear these shoes on carpeted floor, I never wear them out as I change into them in the office. The heel has just come out. $13/15 for plastic tips and 48-72 hours to do it, I can do. The work coming apart - I can't. The family are very nice, but don't have the equipment or skill to do the job. read more

Impressive professional workmanship topped with friendly warm appreciative service. The heel edge soles on my year-old Salomon runners were almost worn through, but the shoe body was still in excellent condition. I first approached a shoe repair on Davie, and within mere moments they adamantly said, 'Can't be resoled'. I am not one to give up, so I came to Yelp and the customer service comments about Denman Shoe Repair encouraged me to keep walking down Davie and along Denman. Talk about a breath of positive attitude at Denman Shoe Repair. The Asian woman cheerfully consulted with her colleague / owner (?) and he responded optimistically that he could easily re-sole the pair. Talk about an excellent re-soling job! Picked up the runners today and he did a fabulous job! Deep tread, accurate cut and clean re-gluing. Some may consider the price pricey ($80) but I would have paid more for a brand new pair without the guarantee that they would fit as well and last as long and make my feet so happy to be walking!! This was my first experience with this cobbler and to be honest after reading the reviews I was SUPER pumped So of course I jumped in my car immediately and grabbed all of my "supposedly" impossible or hopelessly broken shoes and brought them here. There was a grand total of 5 pairs of shoes and only 1 which I thought truly would be impossible to fix. They were ankle booties with a heel which I had used so much that the wood heel had worn down(and it had done so on an angle) and you could stick my finger through the base. When I showed up they were both very friendly and talked amongst themselves for a time before telling me the price. Most of my pumps and sandals only cost around $8 to fix, then they got to my boots. He told me it was possible to fix, but would need almost a week and it would be $55 to fix. Yes that is a lot to fix, but they are my favourite boots and considering I bought them originally for $5 and I thought I was going to have to throw them out , I jumped at the chance to fix them. A week later I came back to pick up my shoes and they were PERFECT. He evened out the heel and stained and texturized the wood to match the original heel and you could barely tell he had even touched them, it was magic!!! He even shined up my pumps for me and cleaned them from all the scuffs I had on all of my shoes. To be honest, I will ONLY be bringing my shoes here and I will continue to refer friends for his service. read more

Thank you Robin M. for recommending this great place, you're review is spot on! I have been searching for a good repair place for a while as I am constantly wearing out my heels. Very sweet owners, and very honest. There was a lady in before me trying to get him to fix boots that were beyond repair and he told her he could fix but it would only break again, no good he said. Upon receiving my boots he grinned at the heel, yes he would fix that and then went on to point out where the seam was starting to come apart (that I hadn't even noticed, but he was right, it was coming apart), and then said the toe should also be replaced as it was no good - I agreed. Upon picking up my boots about 4 days later, for a mere $24 (that was a lot of work he had to do!) my boots were like new and looked fantastic, I have never had a cobbler take such good care of my shoes. I take good care of my shoes but I am hard on them and the Vancouver weather does not help. I dropped three pairs of my favorite shoes based on reviews listed here and although always apprehensive I was pleasantly surprised. After all it is difficult to replace a pair of Allen Edmonds, New York Brass Boots and a pair of handmade Vallejo Shoes from Peru, one of the most comfortable shoes that I own. I asked the owner to take his time and he did. Great work and craftsmanship take time and it was worth the wait. The cobbler was able to bring back to life three wounded soldiers that I count on to make my living. I carefully inspected his work and he certainly met and exceeded my expectations. read more

Excellent service. I went to the Davie Shoe repair and was told nothing could be done about the velcro wearing out on my work shoes (the strap wasn't long enough so it kept popping off). I come here instead, they are happy to try to figure out a solution which involved sewing more leather to extend the strap with new velcro on it, and my shoes are good as new! Thank you, this is really great as it is almost impossible to find shoes that fit my extra small, extra wide feet. If I find good shoes I have to hand on to them as long as possible! read more

They even polished the boots I wore in to pick up my shoes because I asked him what kind of shoe polish I could get to buff the scuff I had. I arrived in Vancouver the day before a wedding, and needed a pair of blue woven leather shoes shined. I doubted I would find anywhere that would have the right polish, not to mention the time to do a rush job. Not only did they have the right color polish, they turned the shoes around in an hour and they were perfect! The young man at the counter was about to clock out to take care of his baby, but he took the time to do my order on the spot, for under 20 bucks. I dropped by on a Saturday at 430pm with a pair of boots I needed reheeled. Great price of $16 and would be ready by Wednesday. I actually needed them by Monday afternoon and he offered to have it done in the next hour. Great service, price and he even gave the heels a clean and a paint job to cover the wear and tear marks. I brought in a test pair several years ago and then did an okay job. Kinda sloppy, so the next time I went I was very specific about not messing up the edges of the shoes (they shaved and redressed the edges on my test pair, but it was minor, not nearly as bad as another place). They did a better job on my next few pairs but I always noticed something was off each time. Once, they didn't blend the edge properly so it looks like its peeling (it isn't really). Another time, they skimped out on Topy material by using the very very edge of the Topy sheet instead of using a heat gun + some extra material on the sides and blending, so again, the edges of the Topy were not blended with the sole. To be fair, I asked for brown and he seemed to be running out or something because he tried to convince me to go with the black Topy. And they were much more careful about not shaving and redressing the soles after I made a note of that to them. And there were never any functional or aesthetic problems. It's never bad enough to warrant finding another cobbler but I'm open to other options read more

This place used to have good quality services for descent prices. Now, it's become expensive and not so good quality-wise, including not so good customer service. Oh, well, this is Vancouver. Expensive and fast living. When your shoes break, throw them away. It's not worth fixing, at least not at this place. read more

I left a designer bag to have parts of the handles glued. It took a week, the repair was so badly done that I am not sure I can wear the bag again. He also tried to cut the leather where he badly glued it and there was glue residue all over the handles. I'm so disappointed that I had to share it and also the fee was not cheap. read more

I'm EXTREMELY pleased by the craftsmanship of this shoe repairer. Even though I had to pay $90 to fix two pair of boots, it was totally worth it because I really liked the design and leather quality of my shoes so throwing them away would be a heartbreak. Besides I would have had to spend more than $400 to buy another two pairs to replace them. The service was friendly and timely. The shop delivered the result they promised. I had some heels reapired before they wore out but they simply couldn't fix stiched leather soled shoes, only could glue rubber to the bottoms. Then my son's work boots had an eyelet hook pull out, they used a small circle of leather to patch the hole, then used a lead or soft metal rivet. when my son laced up the boots, one try the whole repair broke before he even tied the boots up. Money down the drain. they simply did not fix them. Not skilled cobblers at all no nothing about shoe reapir. read more

I gave my sandals to get the sole repaired. He tore out my soles on both shoes, and replaced them with some slippery cheap sole covering. He also over tightened the left foot so that it is now uneven, and my left foot is sore. I came back to ask him what happened and he became angry and said that he fixed my shoes, and started raising his voice and becoming very rude. The sole covering was so badly laid that I could peel off the insoles that he put in. He basically did a bad job and charged me a huge price. I could never wear my sandals after that, and they were fairly new shoes. read more

This is my first time ever getting shoes fixed or repaired so I went here after looking up reviews online. I had expected fantabulous service for my shoes but to be honest it was okay for me. I found the pricing to be ridiculously expensive. I fixed two pair of boots. One was a tan leather pair calf high, which I've had for about 4-5 years old, so they've been pretty worn out and scuffed from what I can recall. I asked them to fix the tip of the sole on the bottom, the heel and they said they would throw some leather touch ups for free, all for $35. Another pair I asked them to fix was a over the knee black pair of boots. This pair they fixed the whole bottom sole, heel and leather touch ups for $50. When I went to pick them up today, the tan pair was not really as "touched up" as I had expected. I had to ask them to touch it up a bit more before I took it out of the store, but really he didnt do much. The black pair looked perfect, but to be fair it was only about 1-1.5 years old. There wasn't much to fix on there anyways. All-in-all, it was a good job when I went home to try it on. Note: I should have tried it on in the store, but I was somewhat in a hurry to go elsewhere. The boots fit great and looked great from my view, but if you took a look at them from a side angle, not so much. I didn't think it was a perfect job, but then again I guess it was cheaper than buying another pair of $160 boots. read more

I brought a pair of boots there last year and got the soles re-glue at a cost of approx. 30$. I have not worn the boots that often and the sole came unglued. I brought the boot in today to get them re-glue and he wanted to charge me 15$ plus tax for the job that was obviously not well the first time. I told the (I assume) owner that he should at least charge me half price to get them re-glued. He said no. - HIW WORK IS NOT GUARANTEED. Won't be back again. I've never taken shoes to get fixed before, so maybe my opinion doesn't really count,but they did a great job fixing my stiletto boots. I always wear down the stiletto heels before the shoe itself breaks down. I usually just buy a new pair, but I find that I have a really tough time getting boots in styles that I really like. They did a great job fixing them and they look brand new! I will definitely bring shoes in there again and I would recommend them to any of my friends! read more
