I'm not typically one to leave reviews, but I really feel the need to share my experience tonight getting a lower leg wax. This was certainly the most painful wax I've ever had. The wax was so hot it burned every time it was applied, even after I told the technician that it was too hot. The whole thing took about an hour and every second of it hurt quite badly (and I have a pretty high pain tolerance). After the technician finished, she told me to change and quickly left to go to the front to help other customers. Upon examining my legs, there were multiple patches of hair that were missed. I didn't shave my legs for a week or two to make sure my hair was long enough for the wax to stick to, and now I'm left with patches of weirdly long hair all over my legs. My legs feel like they usually do 1-2 days after shaving because there is so much hair left. Additionally, she didn't wax my toes which is supposed to be included in the $30 lower leg wax. Upon paying she informed me that I would be getting a 10% first-time customer discount. During our conversation prior to the waxing I told her that I'm a student and my birthday is on Friday, hence treating myself to a wax. I asked her if I could use the 15% off student discount and/or $15 off birthday discount and she told me that I was only eligible for the 10% off first-time discount, which makes absolutely no sense to me. Don't advertise a discount and then not let people use it. There isn't anywhere on the website that specifies these discounts are for returning customers only, but she insisted. I'm sincerely disappointed with the service I received tonight, especially because I was looking forward to having silky legs for my birthday weekend and because I expected so much more based on everyone else's positive reviews. Very dissatisfied with my service. The wax used completely burned my skin. On top of that, the hair wasn't completely removed either. I am going to have to get another wax elsewhere once my skin heals. My brows barely looked like they were waxed and the in between is so apparent. I left the chair with wax still on my skin. The technician watched me as I tried to take off the remaining wax and didn't say anything. I didn't want to be confrontational, I just wanted to leave. I am hoping my skin heals quickly. So much so that I end up didn't go and finish 5 hours remaining. Beware and keep the money spending somewhere else!! She teaches the class in her small spa in Astoria. First of she told me I CANNOT write note down or take photo she said she will repeat until i remembered. Not sure what kind of learning method is that but it clearly not working! At one point the girl who works there asked me" oh, how's your training? Did you take a lot of notes?" I told her" no I couldn't take any, Cristina told me not take any notes." Clearly even her own staff question her action. Not just me. She processed to wax me and said it's easy and then have me wax her which is lot of pressure and I am really nervous and she literally give no clear instruction for example she said pressure use your 3 fingers follow but when I saw her do it she use diff fingers to demonstrate. What a horrible teacher she is!! And since I cannot even write down - shit gone down pretty quick. She compliant i hurt her I apologized and she said "no you are not sorry coz otherwise you wouldn't hurt me" She was speak to me like I was stupid while claim she was all about empowering women. It was such a waste of money and time. Second days she processed to get another student and train us both same time she was reading notes and don't want the girl to take photo or write it down(again!) while having me wax her !!!!!and things went even down hill. Cristina clearly need more education and prepare her material before teach anyone. She was rude condescending and downright nasty to me. She yelled at me through out the class and make me feel so bad about myself. I feel sorry i don't even give her a piece of my mind before I left. By the end of day I still have 5 hours left I blocked her number and say good bye to wax. The only thing I learned is how much I hate this place now everytime I saw wax it reminded me of those traumatizes experiences and all her yelling at me, giving me attitude. The waxings here are some of the least painful I've ever had and my eye brows come out great every time! I also love the use of tea tree oil. It's also very clean and I've never seen double dipping. A few months ago i went to the Elastic Waxing Spa on 29th street and 30th ave. I got the absolute worst waxing of my life. The woman had to call Christina, the owner, to come to bail her out. The woman did a horrible job and hurt me in the process. When Christina came she was able to get me to a place where it was good enough to leave. Christina tried to make light of the experience and told me next time I should ask for her only. She still charged me and I paid even though I really did not feel that i should have been charged at all for that disaster. I didn't post anything on yelp nor did I go back until today. I've been coming here for about 2 years or so and been loving it ever since. After my original waxing spot moved further out the way, I tried 2 other spots in the area and had a terrible allergic skin reaction that took 6 months to heal as well as discomfort during and after the appts. Eventually I went on yelp and found Elastic Wax and read up how they use all natural ingredients and tea tree oil and decided to take the plunge and never looked back since then. Cristina is the owner and with my very first visit I found her to be very pleasant and knowledgeable about her products used and skincare. She gave me tips and heads ups about how/why the reaction may have happened and how to decrease the likeliness of it happening again regardless of where I go. She even insisted that I email or call her the next day to tell her how my skin took the products she used. On other appts, I started getting my face waxed and there were some problem areas that were a bit stubborn to which Cristina was like just come back in a week for a touch up and she didn't even charge me. Overall, she's a real down to earth person and runs her business with honesty and integrity which I always appreciate. Jamuna is one of the newer waxers (but with plenty of years of experience) at this location that I started seeing regularly since May. Like Cristina, her demeanor is very calm and pleasant which makes the appointment go smoother than butter. Her technique is slightly different than what I'm used to but I don't mind because there's still very minimal to no discomfort. New clients beware of bait and switch. In 2017 I tried this place for the first time on the recommendation of a mom friend. I booked with Cristina (my friend's waxer) and upon arrival I was informed that my appointment was with someone else, the wax was fine but painful as they didn't hold my skin taut. I continued to schedule with Cristina and found that I had become the other waxer's permanent client. Despite my feedback the waxes continued to be unnecessarily painful and at times careless, leaving large patches of hair unwaxed despite multiple checks and requests to rewax areas. I left and became a client of Uni-K on Steinway but when they closed decided to try Elastic again. I requested to book with Cristina for the weekend before Thanksgiving - no appointments, offered to book with previous waxer which I refused. After Thanksgiving I called to book with Cristina three weeks in advance and an appointment was scheduled; the morning of the appointment the previous waxer called to cancel the appointment with Cristina. I rescheduled for the Sunday before Christmas; 10 minutes before my appointment I called to confirm the appointment at the 30th Ave location and the previous waxer had no memory of the appointment, after reminding her that she had scheduled the appointment she informed me that Cristina was unavailable and offered to wax me instead, I expressed my frustration and eventually the previous waxer agreed to reschedule me for 12/24. On 12/23 Cristina texted me requesting to change the appointment time and I said no, she informed me that she was "trying give you this attention and seems not to work. So sorry!!!" I expressed my frustration which she acknowledged and stated "In my mind [the previous waxer] is capable to delivery good services too." I shared my 2017 feedback and her response to this was to ask if I would be ok with the previous waxer. I am left with the impression that I never had an appointment with Cristina but in fact remain a client of the previous waxer, nothing of Cristina's direct communication suggests otherwise. I hope that Elastic Wax Center will take this feedback and use it constructively to honor scheduled appointments, enhance communication with clients, and rectify responses to unsatisfied customers (i.e. - "apologies for the difficulty scheduling, please accept a complimentary service to help re-establish your trust in us" or "your feedback is important to us, here's how we're going to update our scheduling practices to ensure this doesn't happen again"). read more

Sad to leave this review since I adore Christina and her product. She is an efficient, gentle, and skilled waxer. But out of the four or five times i've been a customer i've had to wait 15+ minutes for my appointment. I feel very unimportant as her customer that it has happened over and over again. She was apologetic at first and recommended I use their online system to make an appointment. I did just that per her advice and still had to wait. I understand that previous clients can be late, but it is the responsibility of the business owner to provide the service to clients who are not late at the time of their booked appointment. She is consistently late. And by reading the reviews, it is a problem for other customers too. Such a shame- loved her product and really, her waxing skills are amazing. I just left the newer location having had a different aesthetician though I booked for Christina, who overwaxed me despite my telling her I have sensitive skin (at the end she said "oh! I can see you have sensitive skin".....), and had to repeatedly ask to wipe wax off my face that she had left on-- she eventually just gave me a glove and told me to pick it off myself. What?! I've been a loyal fan since their Ditmars location opened up and have always been pleased with the experience and subsequent result. To start, I'm (biasedly) glad that Cristina opened up a new location that is closer to my apartment! However, this review also extends to their Ditmars location. The wax itself is painless and extremely hygienic. Suffice it to say that you won't see any double dipping or (painful and messy) strips to rip off. They use a special hard wax that cools after a few seconds and pulls your hair from its root without irritating your skin. I never thought I'd describe my Brazilian waxes as pain-free, yet here I am... :) As if that weren't enough, Cristina makes the experience even better. She strikes a good balance that blends professionalism with friendliness while ensuring that she provides you with quality results. In addition to being meticulous, you'll also see that she actually cares about her clients - both on a professional and personal level. (Not to mention, I've enjoyed our various conversations which range from salsa dancing to the metaphysical.) On the operational side, I've never had issues scheduling an appointment and have also been graciously accommodated on the day of. Not good. I came for a bikini wax and ended with a Brazilian full wax. My technician was super comforting and friendly but she got distracted and waxed me bald. Which is not okay because I specifically advised her I wanted to avoid certain areas. I was particular from the start but then we both got really chatty and I realized my pain level was going off the roof...no wonder. She was waxing the area I told her "please leave alone". Worse part is that she didn't clean off the dry wax, off of me...she legit just left me like that . Why do I have dry wax on me to begin with? I have been waxing here for about 3 yrs! Referred in many of my family members to wax with Helen, today i decided to go even though i knew Helen no longer works there, i just love the products they use. So i made my appt with Christina. OMG!! It was the most painful experience! When i waxed with Helen the first time she was sooo gentle! But Christina, her wax kept on breaking and she would blame me for it! She kept telling me to stop moving. The funny thing is that when she was doing my legs and underarms the wax kept breaking too, so i don't understand why she would blame me when she was doing my Brazilian and it kept breaking. Meh. I read the bad reviews here but I always come back to this place. I've been to worse places for a wax (Flushing lol). What I like about their waxing is that it's quick and simple, and it's fast.
