She is incredibly professional, meticulous, and genuinely cares about her clients. I've had my lip, eyebrows, and Brazilians waxed with her, and they are flawless every single time! I get a lash lift for special occasions and they last almost 2 months. Her facials are also incredible--my skin always feels clear, refreshed, and rejuvenated afterward. The best facial massage ever. I'd never had a brazilian or bikini wax before, but I decided to put my big girl pants on (or in this case, off) and give it a try. I went on Lifebooker and opted for the Deep Bikini for Sensitive skin, whatever that means. I arrived at my appointment on time and checked in with the receptionist. She informed me that Alicia would be waxing me today; Alicia was in the middle of getting a pedicure when I arrive- a little awkward. Alicia isn't the most friendly, but she is pretty efficient. It took under 15 minutes and although it hurt, it wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined (again, I have nothing to compare it to). As other reviewers mentioned, there are no extras. You get baby powered, waxed, a little powder again and that's it. No touch ups or looking for extra hairs, no making sure it's even, no removing left over wax- none of that. I did notice a few straw hairs after I left and a slight asymmetry. I was also very sticky and uncomforable from the residual wax left on my skin. Unbeknownst to me, Lifebooker ladies must pay in cash. I had enough cash with me for the tip, but not the wax- so I had to leave and go to an ATM and come back. After I did pay, I was shorted a dollar in the change I got back, which was also a little awkward having to ask for it. This being my first wax of this nature, I have nothing to compare it to. It was my last day in the Big Apple and I wanted to pamper myself. I started off by calling Bliss and got no answer, just an answering machine that gave me the run around. So I decided to call Harmony and boy and I glad that I did. First off an actual person answered the phone and was able to schedule me that same day. Secondly, they were offering a sweet 20% off for yelpers. I arrived a little early but it was no problem, Alica was able to take me in right away. She was very accomodating. Her facial was just what the doctor ordered. I was very dehydrated and Alica plumped my skin back to life. The massage therapist even came back after having left for the day to give me my massage. I felt like I was treated like a princess. Finally, Alica went above and beyond the call of duty. I mentioned I was heading to JFK airport and she offered me and my husband a ride to the airport. I soon found that not only did this lady have skills as an esthetician but once we hit the road she started channeling Mario Andretti and got us to the airport in record time. Let's start with the things I like about this place: The receptionist was very pleasant and was diligent in taking down my discount number over the phone. I was making an appt the day of and I felt I was welcomed to do that. I let her know when I knew I could get there and she was very accommodating. I'm sorry I do not have her name. The Waxer: Since my first Brazilian 5 years ago was a disaster I was a little hesitant about having it done again. Since I'll try most things twice, I went in there like a G. The cutest little lady warmly welcomed me and shortly there after, the ripping began. She was fast and focused which meant no small talk - worked well for me. However, I had to take a star away on the rating for her not going "full throttle" on the back end. I had to ask her to clean the rest, which I was slightly annoyed by. After all, when it comes to brazilian waxing, its a "go hard or go home" situation. Another thing, it was hotter than July in the waxing room, and sweating is not good for the removal process. The End: I was slightly disappointed with there being no aftercare suggestions or advice on how to care for a brazilian. Although I had researched this extensively, I would have been intrigued to purchase an aftercare product at the advice of someone there. But oh well. Lastly, the receptionist saved the day by having my discount number logged into the booking system. So I didn't need the print out of my coupon, which you normally would. She didn't even make a big deal out of me not having the coupon with me. read more

This place is a wreck, I don't understand how there are so many great reviews. I'm usually pretty generous with my stars, but I can't justify giving this place anything over 1. My friend and I booked 2 massages through a deal we found on Lifebooker. We arrived on time and there was no receptionist. We waited in the waiting room for about 10 minutes when our therapists came out to meet us. Imagine our surprise when they led us both into a single, tiny room set up for a COUPLES MASSAGE. Strike one. But, being the easygoing girls that we are, we thought there must have been some kind of misunderstanding and went along with it. Once our massages began, I realized what a huge mistake we had made. The room was WAYYY too small for two tables and the therapists kept crashing into the corners of the tables and banging around. Mine actually moved my table several times during the massage just so she could walk around to the other side. Even worse, my therapist used about a gallon of oil on me and barely any pressure. She never checked in to see if I would prefer more/less - bas massage etiquette. I felt like I was being marinated or something - and no hot towel to clean up, just dry scratchy hand towels. We had plans to go to lunch and a museum after, but I felt so disgustingly drenched that I had to go home and shower. To top it off - the place accepts credit cards, but made us go outside and take money from the ATM in order to tip. This place offers a lot of extreme discounts that might look like a good deal - but I warn you - avoid at all costs. You can get a much better bang for your buck at other places. read more

Came here for a facial last fri with Alicia. I made the appt same day and was able to come in. Hurray! I got the 75 min European facial. Compared w other spas, my face wasn't as smothered in products during the treatment. Can't decide if that's beneficial or not... but high quality products were used in any case. The treatment room was incredibly comfortable.. which is great bc Alicia is very thorough & does strong extractions (she told me to take advil next time. i'm such a wimp). I'll def be back. I don't think I'll ever come back, even though I bought a 2 for 1 deal and have only used one. Worst Brazilian, EVER. She saw that I was uncomfortable (awkward & in pain) and made no effort to do anything about it. To be fair, this is not my first Brazilian and although the process itself is no walk in the park, there are definitely more professional places with the right expertise for the (very sensitive) job! My 3 girlfriends and I booked their Harmonic package to celebrate a bachelorette weekend. What an experience! The owner is sweet, friendly and gave us all the best facials we have ever had. The scrub was strong (I like it that way) - and my friends all said that there scrubs were tailored to their taste. The woman who gave us all our mani/pedis and paraffin wax treatment was amazing. Overall, it was a great experience. We were only supposed to be there for three hours, but with the coordination of the four of us, on top of all the other people getting treatments, it took about 5 (so be mindful if you go with a big group). The owner made up for it by giving us all complimentary eyebrow waxes - and my eyebrows have never looked better. If I'm ever back in NYC and have time for a spa treatment, I'm definitely going back! I love pampering myself. What better way to pamper myself than by trying a place I haven't been to yet. Thanks to the wonderful magic of groupon, I was able to get a facial here for a super sweet deal. So off I went this morning to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of a spa. Ahhh...free water upon arrival. So refreshing! The receptionist was very friendly. I only had to wait a few minutes while my room was being readied. The woman who gave me my facial was very friendly and informative ("you have dry skin; you need to moisturize; make sure you exfoliate...etc etc") It was incredibly relaxing...until the extractions..ouchie...but once I was past that point, aahh... I left with a very moisturized face and I'm ready to tackle on the rest of the weekend. I highly recommend this place just because it is very friendly and, of course, relaxing. Harmony Spa is a LOVELY place. I booked my appointment the day OF, needing desperately to get my legs & vajay waxed while I was in town and having my regular aesthetician (at another spa) unavailable. Harmony is nestled in the heart of midtown, super convenient for office ladies. They offer a wide range of services, though I only went in for eyebrow & eyelash tinting, and the aforementioned waxing. The spa had lovely music playing. It's well-appointed, has a great feel, and lovely furniture and smells. My technician, Alysia, was SO nice and accommodating. She was also excellent at all of the services she performed. I'm not sure what woman goes for waxing of her private parts and doesn't expect it to hurt. There is no bikini or Brazilian wax on EARTH that doesn't hurt at all, and the "sensitive wax" doesn't actually extract most hair from a large percentage of women (myself included). The cost was reasonable. The waxing rooms were perfectly fine, and as large as they need to be. Having been now to 6-8 spas across the Manhattan area, they were perfectly standard in terms of size and decor. Alysia and I talked shopping after my appointment, and I am even now considering going to Harmony from now on because it was such a good experience. A+++! read more

I usually go to Harmony for a lip and chin waxing once every couple months. Alicia always does an amazing job, but what really makes me happy is the customer service. I work around the block from the spa, and I can literally call as I'm walking out of my building, and she'll do her best to accommodate me. She remembers my name, even though the treatment I'm getting is a minor one. Because of this excellent experience, I've tried a couple facials there as well, and this is where the service really shines. My skin never looked or felt better. It's a wonderful experience and the prices are great (and not just "great for manhattan,", these prices would be reasonable anywhere!). I've been a client of the owner, Alicia, since 2004, primarily for waxing. Luckily, Alicia was referred to me by my sister who had already gone through all the horrors of finding someone she trusts enough to regularly get waxed. The space is quaint and inviting with a very elegant but simple decor. Alicia is very friendly and professional and I feel very comfortable when I'm getting waxed. Along with the great service, the salon also has great deals on packages! I've never had a problem making an appointment. I'd definitely recommend this place! I can't say enough how amazing Harmony's treatments are. The owner is a beautiful, Polish goddess who is warm and welcoming and puts you immediately at ease. *Keep in mind, I'm also a massage therapist * I arrived right on time to begin my massage, but ended up waiting 15 min, I'm guessing b/c my therapist had to go over time with her previous client for some reason. But either way, I was feeling a bit rushed b/c I had a business appt right after nearby & had to leave on time. But, the soothing, romantic & rustic environment/decor did relax me a bit. The velour seating was regal looking. And the open brick walls added a trendy chicness to the place. And it was nice of the check-in lady to offer me wine or water. My therapist led me to a softly lit tiled room which I suspect was one of their wet rooms & instructed me to hang my clothes on a hook and lay down. All in all the massage was good. I had to keep adjusting her to change her pressure which wasn't strange to me. What was strange was that she's been working 10 years & couldn't determine which are areas were sensitive & just not a good idea to press hard on (unless someone were to request it). But I think she felt more comfortable in her work with me knowing I was in the same field. I gotta say, though, she's really into her work. Much of the time, the massage was good. She kept instructing me to breathe and spoke in a very gentle, rhythmic nature. It was kinda weird, but kinda cool at the same time. I went here for eyelash extensions with Star and she was absolutely fantastic. She's super nice, helped me pick out the right lashes for me, and did a fantastic job. I've gotten a lot of compliments & I'm absolutely obsessed with them now. I went back a few weeks later for a touch-up after I (drunkenly) messed them up a little bit and my 2nd experience was just as great. I've been able to get a same-day appointment both times, and for the second one she maneuvered to fit me into her already tight schedule. Harmony is really comfortable and seems really clean, too. Alicia has been awesome about calling me if an appointment I book online isn't going to work and works with me to find a time that's good for me. read more

This place is so inconsistent! Half the time the waxing is painless and immaculate. The other half, it's excruciating, time-consuming and messy. The aesthetician either silently goes about her business like a pro, or she blames her poor work on your lack of regular waxing. It's a total toss-up. Enter at your own risk, and be prepared for a mother of a guilt-trip. And as a side note: Come with cash. You can pay with a card, but you have to tip in cash, which I rarely carry. I had my second facial here and I have to say it's terrific! After my facial I felt 10 lbs lighter and best of all...I didn't look like I had just had a facial! Alicia even asked me if I had put make up on! Alicia is very thorough and personable. Got a 60 minute hot rock massage, which was definitely relaxing and, well, nice. The building it's self was a little odd. But the room was nice and clean, nothing creepy dirty or really even questionable about it. The staff was nice and very accommodating. I could have done with a little less new-age music and I think the one thing I felt was missing was something nice-smelling. Went here for a brazilian wax. The spa itself is very comfortable and relaxing, and I might consider going back for a mani/pedi. But the wax? Huge mistake. Here's my story: The aesthetician led me into one of their small rooms, after which she decided that the floor was dirty and needed to be cleaned with half a gallon of acetone right there and then. Now that I'm practically suffocating, she begins. The wax was scalding and I flinched. She asked me if it was too hot, I said yes, and she said, in so many words, "too bad." So she carried on. Thirty painful minutes later (I've never had a wax take longer than 15...), she has finally decided that I've been tortured enough, even though there is still hair that she has missed. At this point, I couldn't have cared less, all I wanted was some Advil for my swiftly bruising skin. read more

Little heavenly escape. This place is the best getaway from the busy life of living and working in Midtown. I first discovered it from a Living Social deal. The prices are a little higher than you would pay for services anywhere else, but 100% worth it. For example, the eyebrows are $18 instead of a typical $7, but they put real care into it. They don't just rush you out in a rude, unsanitary way like MOST of the other salons in NYC do. They do them based on your face shape and skin type. Brazilian wax is only a tad more than other places, but completely worth it for similar reasons. Also this place is amazing for Shellac manicures. The polish lasts 2 to 3 weeks and is beautiful. They also are also always playing very tranquil music, and because it is by appointment there is never more than 3 people there - you really feel as if you are the only important customer. They do appointments last minute by email, which is extremely convenient. I don't go to any other salon for anything anymore. read more

C'mon Yelp -- you need to institute a zero stars rating. Because if ever a place earned that, it's Harmony Skin Care. On the basis of a Lifebooker offer for lash extensions, I called Harmony to make sure they had brown eyelash extensions available for this service. I did not want the more common black and wanted to be certain before making a purchase. I was told, no problem. Based on that assurance and the four stars here and the very nice person on the phone, I bought two Lifebooker certificates. And these weren't cheapo $25 deals, either. I then scheduled an appointment at Harmony for said extensions. Harmony had more than a week beforehand to get brown eyelashes. Note -- you can buy high-quality brown lashes from Amazon, beauty.com, etc., not to mention in NYC. Day of 5pm appointment, I showed up and was told the lashes they ordered were in a box that hadn't been opened until 4pm and turned out to be black. Someone then called to tell me, but at 4pm I already was en route, having left work early. They were profusely apologetic and asked if I wanted another service. I opted for a $20 lash dye to tide me over and to my surprise was charged for this service, which I thought was complementary to atone for the screw-up. While this was going on, the person who applies the lashes -- a freelancer -- came in and gave an entirely different story about why there were no brown lashes. Hmmm. Still, I had the certificates and wanted to make this work. And once again, I was assured that they would have brown lashes in stock the next time. Two weeks later, I made another 5pm appointment. I asked the person on the phone if they had gotten the brown lashes and was told yes, yes, definitely, no problem. She remembered me and knew of the previous fiasco. On the appointed day, I was running a few minutes late and called Harmony to let them know. The person who answered said fine. This was at 4:30pm. When I arrived just after 5, the receptionist greeted me with, "Oh, we have a little problem." That little problem turned out to be that -- once again! -- they had no brown lashes. The story this time was they hadn't opened the box until earlier that day and discovered the lashes were blue. When I asked why no one told me this when I called at 4:30, I got "We had a customer and it was busy and sorry." So to summarize: I bought vouchers on the basis of Harmony's assurance it could perform its service with the desired product. Twice, I took time off from work (and I get paid by the hour) for an appointment. Both times, I went to extra lengths to secure the vendor's word that the needed product was on hand. And both times, I was left standing around like an idiot at this salon with absolutely no satisfaction. This entire folly cost time and money over and above what I paid for the vouchers -- totally not worth it. The merchant made absolutely no attempt either time to compensate for its repeated screw-ups -- looking back, I'm infuriated I paid for the cheap lash dye. It's a lousy way to run a business. read more

Had an eye lash extension by Star, and I love it, she gives the lashes texture and advised me on the type and style of lash that she thought would suit me best. The results are amazing, and have had so many positive comments about the lashes as they really make your eyes pop, I will never wear mascara again. Yolanda is great at mani/pedi, she takes her time and does a fab job, had a French shellac done that lasted over 2 weeks and still looked great. Alicia is the woman of many talents from waxing to nails, if you want an amazing facial she is your best bet. The staff are always friendly,welcoming and professional, the salon is clean and cute. I purchased one of those deals from BuyWithMe for a Sensitive Brazilian. Since I have had Brazilians done before so I know what the experience should be like-so how bad could it be? When you first go in the atmosphere is relaxing and soothing. You are called in to this plain room which is adjacent the waiting room so anyone can look right inside. Once she comes in she places you in the most awkward position and she pours STEAMING hot wax and then she just starts yanking like a MAD woman over and over the SAME spot peeling not only hair but my off skin. She left TONS of stubble's. When it was time to so back she burned my entire area. She finishes in under 12minutes by spreading tons of baby powder. I felt mutilated and I used neosporin for almost a whole week after. It was torturous, painful a horrible experience and I would never go back! read more

A disclaimer in advance... I LOVE this place, the owner and Julia who is the only person who has done my nails since I have lived in NYC (celebrating 3 years this month). I found the old location (called Escape Spa and located in the Flatiron) right after I moved to the city and have been devoted ever since. During the several months they were closed during the transition to the new location I couldn't bring myself to try anyplace else...the service here is just THAT good. Alicia, the owner is really talented at creating very warm atmospheres through decor, music, lighting, etc., and I would find it hard to see how anyone could feel anything but relaxed when they leave. They are other nail techs but as I mentioned I've only had my nails done by Julia (I get spa pedicures every month religiously) and she is meticulous which makes a perfectionist like myself very happy. Additionally she is great at picking out nail based on your skin tone and mixing colors (I have come to find that the best colors actually come from a coat of one polish over a coat of another color polish). As far as other services unfortunately I can not offer any personal recommendation as I am just so happy with the nail services from Julia though I have heard/read that Alicia is fantastic at waxing and given the owner's high standards I would find it hard to believe she would hire practitioners of any service (massage, facials, scrubs, etc., are offered) who were not of the same caliber as herself. This place is a true gem and I write this in the hopes that others will see this and give this place a try versus some of the bigger names in town. I heard of this place through a groupon offered back in December 2010. I went in and got a full leg wax and brazilian. First off, this was the first time that I ever waxed ANYTHING. Suffice to say, I was bleeding after I got a full brazilian wax. I don't necessarily think that was her fault but it still hurt a lot. The full leg wax was almost painful and I didn't find any stray hairs. The same thing couldn't be said about the brazilian. When I went home I realized there very several noticeable hairs still left and I was a little upset that she didn't try to get rid of them.
