I decided to train Jiu Jitsu to learn something I've never done before. My goals and expectations were to simply be competent in Jiu Jitsu and what I've learned at Electric Jiu jitsu has surpassed those expectations. I have been training here almost a year and every day is a learning experience and my technique is getting better each time I show up! Professor Assis is an excellent instructor with a breadth of knowledge. I especially like what we learn in self-defense classes. Learning drills and situational awareness with knives and guns (using trainers) is so enjoyable and applicable to everyday life, especially if you carry. Overall it is a great environment to learn in. One of the things I love most about this dojo is that all students and instructors wear clean gi's every single class. Rolling with others smells good. I'm surprised that there aren't any reviews for EJJ. I came into Electric Jiu-Jitsu not knowing much about the school as far as the dynamics of the school atmosphere only aware that Joao Assis is a top tier Black belt and one of the best in the world in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and part of the famed Checkmat Team. I have been fortunate to learn from a variety of different Jiu-Jitsu teachers from Legends to top Black belts. Even though I haven't been at the school for a long time. I already can gauge that this school is top notch. From the great team camaraderie and mutual respect between the students to the Excellent, world class and Patient instruction from Joao assis. Kids classes! I've had two of my kids taking classes here for three months. My kids attended another school in Sacramento for a few years before so they did have a good jiu jitsu foundation. Electric BJJ has three kids classes per week, Mon, Weds, and Fri from 5:00 pm to 6:00pm. During the one hour the class the instructors keep the kids busy with warm-ups, drills, take downs, and a game at the end. They offer a free one week trial which is definitely worth it to have the kids try out class before signing up. It's a relaxed atmosphere and a very fun class for kids. Electric BJJ supports the kids who want to compete in tournaments as well as the kids who want to learn for self defense and discipline. I highly recommend this school if you live in or near Huntington Beach! read more

Electric JJ Is the best gym to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Huntington beach Hands down! You're not going to find an instructor with the Resume Joao has under his belt. Joao Assis knows how to break down the technique for each individual so nobody gets left behind during training. The Gym is a bit smaller then some of the other schools in the area But it makes up for the lack of space with the talented people that train there. Its all about QUALITY. I can tell you that It's always going to be a good practice even if its just 6 people on the mat, you're going to be tired. I started training with Joao in 2010 as a white belt and now I'm a purple belt under him. He has opened my eyes to an entirely new world of BJJ. What you will find at EJJ is a group of men and women who are passionate about grappling. Most of the students are high-level competitors that live and breath jiu jitsu. What's important to note is that the gym's strongest and most skilled practitioner's ARE NOT MEATHEADS. I feel safe grappling here because I know my partner respects my skill level, and will adjust his/her game to what's appropriate.
