I needed to move more, build muscle, strengthen my bones. At 54 I figured I was too old for jiu jitsu but a black belt friend told me to try it. I was too nervous to try a class so I went to watch one. The Women's Empowered class. I'm somewhat of an introvert, and my friend said take the women's class first, you'll feel more comfortable, and he was right. It was really cool to watch, but I still wasn't sure if I could keep up. Coach Carlos came over to where I was sitting and asked if I had any questions. I told him I had NO martial arts background, I was out of shape (but trying to get better), I was worried I was too old and I did NOT want to get hurt. He talked with me in between teaching and put all my concerns to rest. I really like the look of the techniques they were teaching. Self defense is a great skill to have at any age. I soon became obsessed with jiu jitsu not just as a hobby or thing to do, but as a way of life. I have met some of the greatest people at this school, both students and coaches... people that I now consider friends/family! It's been just shy of a year now. I have completed the WE program and achieved my pink belt. I still go to classes to keep the techniques sharp! (once you achieve your pink belt, you no longer have to pay for classes!) About half way through Women's Empowered, I signed up concurrently for the Combatives program and I have about 3 months to go before I test for that belt. I plan on being a student of jiu jitsu for the rest of my life and am extremely GRATEFUL to have found GJJ of Huntington Beach! I did my research, and I made the rounds when I first started looking. All schools are NOT alike. I went into schools and was completely ignored. I went to schools that were mostly based on competing in tournaments and they had a lot of injuries. Some schools had energy that made me extremely uncomfortable. If you've ever thought about it, don't wait another day! There is a 10 day free trial period for all new students. You will know right away if it's for you. If you come to a WE class chances are, I'll be there!

Coach Carlos and Coach Mason are absolutely phenomenal--they're not only knowledgeable and skilled, but incredibly attentive and engaging with the kids. They know how to keep the energy high and the kids excited to learn every time they step on the mat. Beyond the jiu-jitsu skills, my boys have gained so much confidence and discipline through this program. It's clear that the coaches truly care about the kids, and the environment they've created feels like one big supportive family. I'm beyond happy with our experience at Gracie Huntington Beach and would 100% recommend it to anyone--whether for your kids or yourself. You won't just be learning jiu-jitsu, you'll be joining a community.

I took the 6:15 PM Gi Jiu Jitsu class, taught by UNF MMA Champion and Checkmat Black Belt, Gianni Vazquez. The class is designed for all skill levels, so whether you're a beginner or have no experience at all, you'll feel right at home. It started with some warm-ups and quickly moved into specific drills and live sparring. As a purple belt, I really enjoyed the class and walked away with some awesome guard-passing techniques. Rounders MMA offers so much more than just Jiu Jitsu - they also have NoGi Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, and Muay Thai classes. Plus, they offer specialized programs for kids, including Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, and Muay Thai + Boxing. If you're looking for a way to get your kids involved in martial arts, I highly recommend Rounders. The benefits are endless: from physical fitness and mental toughness to boosting self-confidence and teaching valuable life skills like focus, respect, and self-discipline. It's also a fun and structured way for kids to release energy and make new friends. Highly recommend checking them out! A huge thank you to owner Sebastian for taking such good care of me for my first time at Rounders HB!!!

We're practically there every day of the week. Initially, we did try other gyms and landed on Praia. Why do we love Praia? 1. The coaches- each coach has their unique style and strengths and my daughter appreciates each coach for different things but what they all have in common is their devotion to the love of the sport and they teach in a way where they break things down so the kids can understand. They're patient, they make things fun and they show the kids how to respect others and the mat. 2. The owner Thiago, definition of a true small business owner. Literally building everything from the ground up with real values, hard work, and genuine care for the members of the gym. 3. Clean gym- they're constantly wiping down the mats. The bathroom is always clean. It's never stuffy or smells like sweat. My two daughters and husband go here. We love it for my younger daughter because it's a place for her work on her coordination, make friends and learn discipline and respect. My oldest daughter competes in tournaments and we wouldn't have learned about her skill if it wasn't for Praia. She's learning new skills on and off the mat. With the support of her coaches- she learns how to be a team player, how to deal with tough situations and losses and how to try again and again and again. I would highly recommend Praia to any friends, family or strangers.

You can really tell they take a true ical approach -- it's not just about teaching techniques, but about building confidence, discipline, and respect. What I love most is how they know exactly how to connect with kids and keep them engaged while still maintaining structure and professionalism. The environment is supportive, positive, and very well organized. I highly recommend Praia Jiu-Jitsu to any parent looking for a place where their child will not only learn jiu-jitsu, but also grow as a person.

Instructor Paulo Gazze Jr, is more than just a jiujitsu coach he is a mentor, a role model, and a steady hand in my son's life. The amount of time, energy, and genuine care he invests into his students especially the young ones is something rare and deeply impactful. He doesn't just teach submissions and escapes; he teaches responsibility, humility, and perseverance. Watching my son grow under his guidance has been nothing short of inspiring. I have seen him become more focused, more respectful, and more driven on and off the mat. Paulo pushes his students, but always with encouragement. He expects the best from them, and in turn, they learn to expect the best from themselves. Gazze Academy isn't just a place to train it is a place to grow up strong, kind, and capable. I couldn't be more grateful for the environment Paulo has created and the example he sets every day. The space is versatile, able to be one large room or divided into sections, and it's really motivating for the younger kids to see and learn alongside the older students. The staff is amazing. Krystal, in particular, was so kind to my son and made him feel truly welcome and special from day one. We wanted to pick a studio that promoted confidence and constant resilience because she is a very strong-willed young lady. We tried 5 different studios, and to be honest, none of them stood out to us like GB did. Being the tiger mom I am, I want my daughter to try new things, work past her laziness, and know that quitting is never an option. I love that Gracie gives structure and instills a strong work ethic and respectfulness, which was a huge factor in why I chose GB for our daughter--the way they run their program, the way each coach gets down to the children's eye level, and how they expect children to always give it their best. The coaches, Professor, and Nathalia were supportive throughout the entire process. They never pressured our daughter into anything she was uncomfortable with. Although it took about a month for her to fully adjust to the training routine, Coach Curren quickly became our favorite coach. His calm, encouraging presence helps all the children feel at ease and confident during their sessions. Gracie Barra HB is definitely the adopted family you want your kids to have because they're absolutely the best! I recommend them to our friends all the time, and now another family has their girls training with them too.
