came here after seeing that LA Times named it one of the best affordable date spots in LA, and it honestly lived up to the hype. The space is cozy and intimate, making it perfect for a date night or even a small dinner with friends. The service was friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. We tried a mix of dishes and everything was super flavorful. The tandoori (Indian-style BBQ cooked in a clay oven) had a really nice smoky flavor, and the meats were juicy and well-seasoned. The cheesy garlic naan was a standout -- soft, buttery, and honestly something I would come back for on its own. The curries like the chana masala and saag were rich without feeling too heavy, and I appreciated that they have a lot of vegan and gluten-free options. My favorite had to be the samosas -- crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned inside. They also have a full bar, and the mango lassi was refreshing and paired really well with the meal. I do see that they have a pretty high rating, but I just have to be true to my experience at a restaurant and to my experience with Indian food. First, we were eight people they served the food 15 minutes between the first one and the second one to receive their food and total of 25 minutes between the first one and the last one to receive the food. Everybody in the restaurant business know that that's not right. One dish came with a lady hair inside the dish!! Eating chicken tikka in Indian restaurant this one mostly put their spices on top of the chicken, which I personally didn't like compared to when you get it as part of the chicken and the color is all almost red. The chicken tikka masala A was way too sweet. The salad the soup and the dips came 10 minutes after all the food arrived again that's not something you do. My only critique is that even when you ask for your curry to be "spicy - not Caucasian spicy - really spicy" it's still going to be dumbed down. Really delicious food! Highly recommend curry fun, it's a variety plate for one (although the portion, especially the rice and naan) is unbelievably large. The mint chutney for the samosa is also really, really good. So limey, garlicky, and flavorful. The samosas are light and flaky and delicious. Definitely a must get. Came by for a week night dinner and it did not disappoint! The food came out hot and tasted delicious. Even though you'll want to gobble up every last bite from how flavorful it tastes, make sure you save some room for the rose doughnuts because they are a delicacy! First time actually having a sit down meal versus takeout. It's a cute restaurant along the fame 3rd St Blvd in Los Angeles. Location is great as there's tons of shops nearby as well as restaurants. The only downside, they have a small amount of parking in the back but the rest is street parking. Majority of the time they're all taking and side neighborhoods streets are permits. We looked around for a bit trying to find parking but no luck till we called to see if parking was available. The gentleman when answered told us they had parking and actually came outside to guide us to where the restaurant was as it hard to find in the dark. That was nice of him. There's a few space but normally they're all taken. Restaurant is cute, a main seating area as well as an outdoor dining area. It was covered but not sure if they open the top up during the day. They have a full bar with specialty's cocktails on hand. The menu consist of all your favorites Indian dishes. Spice level to your liking which is always great. Staff were very friendly which is a major plus. The samosas were excellent, served with two dipping sauce. Also had the butter chicken fries which was a first for me at an Indian restaurant. It's basically fries with butter chicken curry and topped with onions and cheese. Their version of a chili cheese fries. Also comes with paneer if that's your liking. The curries were great, butter chicken, lamb saag, shrimp saag all flavored well and spice level was great. Biryani was great a with chicken in the tomatoes base with rice. Everything was excellent. One thing that always makes me weak in the KNEES is Veggie korma. It's a tomato-based curry with the most aromatic spices, chock full of all different kinds of veggies, and dunked with freshly-baked naan bread?? Absolutely DI-vine, no notes, and this restaurant does the veggie korma so well here. Just steps away from the Grove outdoor mall in LA, Electric Karma has got another specialty dish that you can't find anywhere else--Butter chicken fries--such a simple combo, but so mindblowingly good. And you can't sleep on the Papri chaat, chickpeas and tamarind and mint chutney, all on a bed of the crunchiest chips ever. I really enjoyed their Indian food! My office managers brought it in for my birthday lunch and it fully satisfied my craving for home-cooked style Indian food. The chicken tikka masala was delicious. The gravy was thick and rich. The chicken was soft and buttery. It tasted so good with the soft, nicely charred naan bread. I tried the chicken korma as well which is a bit less spicy than the chicken tikka masala but pretty similar. Their Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potatoes sautéed with a turmeric-ginger spice blend) tasted fresh and perfectly spiced. I very much look forward to going there in person to get the full dining experience, but I have heard good things! For the food if you love Indian food I would say order medium spice if possible for more flavor! You can tell they need to cater to the surrounding areas demographic but I'm still able to get my fix! Service upon arrival was friendly. With orders and dinner, nicely attentive. The restaurant is small, rustic, charming and clean. I ordered the Curry Fun for One (chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, daal, rice, raita, naan) since it had my favorite Indian dishes and seemed like a very good deal. It definitely had all the right elements and the mild flavor was fine but not good enough for me to order again. When asked how spicy I would like it, I said hot. I'd say it was medium at most. I liked the Bombay Sangria. The tamarind is a nice touch and the booze-soaked apples were delicious. The cocktail and drinks menu looked much more interesting than the food menu. I would like to try more beverages and I wouldn't mind trying more dishes but the bar is low food-wise. My dinner companions did like the samosas. The Chicken Tikka looked and smelled amazing. Parking in the area is a challenge. Residential parking is allowed until 6pm so the only option in the evening is metered parking which runs till 8pm. This is a great Indian restaurant right on a vibrant third Street. Parking is not easy as there is limited metered parking as well as residential parking a block away beware of the permitted hours. The restaurant decor is nice and gives an authentic field to the visit. Staff is excellent, very accommodating and friendly and attentive. Even when I wasn't sure how many attendees are in our group and I'm talking to Saturday night 7 PM reservation we were able to adjust easily. Food was delicious just the right portions. From the starter samosa, to the entrees OG chicken curry, the lamb tikka, bharta eggplant dish, rice and garlic nan, fabulous dinner. Sadly, everything except the lamb was terrible. Too much chili powder in the tika masala. The naan and rice and saag paneer all tasted terrible. Having eaten at many excellent Indian restaurants, I know good quality and this is not good at all. It's a shame that Indians can't do a great job cooking their own food which should not be that difficult if they use quality fresh ingredients. There was no flavor of cardamom in the food even though they claim it's in the dish. Shameful to serve Indian food like this. read more

Major shoutout to Lucky(the owner) and his son Harman for such exceptional service. Also I need to mention how beautiful the back part of the restaurant is! Street parking is available and wasn't too bad, but parking on a busy street can be a little overwhelming. There is also neighborhood parking, but I think it's limited to two hours. One of the best kept secrets of Los Angeles is the number, range, and quality of its cultural, ethnic restaurants. If you love exotic plant-based food, as I do, you won't want to miss this pretty, charming example of Southern India's flavor-rich cuisine. First of all, if you come in the afternoon you will find easy metered street parking on 3rd Street. It is likely packed in the evenings. My preference for this off-time is a blessing and a curse. I failed to realize that this restaurant, like so many in this area, closes between 3 and 5 pm on weekends. We raced to get there by 2:45, frogged across the busy street, and slid in the door under the wire. The place was completely empty, except for the staff who must not have been thrilled to have us keep them from their break, but still greeted us warmly and graciously seated our group in a colorful semi-outdoor room at the back. From then on they ferried dish after dish, steaming from being freshly prepared, to us with nothing but smiles and solicitude. Thank you all, but particularly Clyde, who is the consummate professional and a great ambassador for India. (Btw, I fault Open Table for allowing us to book such a late reservation -- they don't seem to have the 411 on afternoon closures, as this is not the first time it has happened to us.) If you have been to India, you know there is a dazzling number and variety of colors, flavors, and alimentary concepts. Many of them -- some completely new to me, even though I have been sampling Indian cooking for decades -- are available on EK's fascinating menu. See the pictures with my labels so you know what we had. Despite having chicken available, this is a wonderful spot for vegetarians and vegans. The hues splashed all over each room cast an almost holographic lavender over us that offset the deep warm saffrons and pepper reds of our dishes. You will get the idea from my photographs. In the background was a steady stream of India's best music, we felt as if we were right there! Great, caring service, a clean, vibrant environment, with fresh air wafting through that transports all the odors of delicately spiced foods and flowering plants past numerous tables in several intimate spaces, and comfortable seating that relaxed us after our harried sprint from home will draw us back again and again. I have never tried Indian Food before but my friend wanted to try this spot Electric Karma because she heard it was good. When you walk in you have a choice to sit at regular dining tables or the traditional Indian dining tables on the floor in the back patio with open air. We decided to sit here. This room was so beautiful with its decor and colors and great music making for the perfect ambiance. The owner Lucky was great. I told him it was my first time and he explained to me how there are no preservatives in the food just natural food from the ground and spices. Although I am not vegan, they have 40% vegan clientele with a lot of vegan dishes so this place is perfect for everyone! Ok let's get to the food, I started off with a Masala Margarita and it was delish. My friend loved her mojito. We ordered the somosas, Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, Rice, and Market Vegetables. Every single thing was AMAZING!!! It was my first time trying Indian food and I couldn't stop eating it with its rich flavors and exquisite bites.
