    Masala fries
    Benson K.

I was in Hollywood for a concert, and was looking for something close to the Dolby Theatre to try out. I saw that this Indian restaurant was serving frankies, which I never had before, so I wanted to come give the restaurant a try. I came here for dinner with my wife and two friends, about an hour before the concert. I got a reservation, but there were actually many seats available. The restaurant is small but the seats and tables are quite spacious. The staff have limited English, but we managed to communicate. My wife and I ended up sharing a chicken tikka massala frankie combo, which came with waffle fries and also a drink (we got diet coke). I'm normally not a fan of waffle fries, but these fries were super crispy and flavorful, not soggy like I might get from a fast food place. They gave us a spicy sauce and a sweet sauce to dip the waffle fries in which was nice. The chicken tikka massala frankie was quite saucy, but quite good. The chicken was dry, but the naan was good and I loved the veggies and sauce. I shared everything with my wife, it's worth the price for the amount of food I got.

Food was good! Glad I came here and I would come back. The restaurant is small and easy to miss. I ordered the chicken tikka masala frankie combo (comes with masala fries and a fountain drink), and my friend ordered the Rogan Josh. In my opinion, the Rogan Josh was a little overpriced given the portion size and the fact that it doesn't automatically come with rice. My friend was stuffed after finishing the rice and curry. The meat was very good, well-flavored, and soft. It was not too gamey. The chicken tikka masala Frankie, was pretty affordable at $14! Granted I think my stomach has shrunk, but I was full after eating half of the Frankie and the side of masala fries. I really enjoyed it. Also the masala fries were the best waffle fries my friend and I have ever had. They were super crispy, well-seasoned, and not too salty. In my opinion, they were the highlight of the meal. I took one star off because the lemonade that came with my combo was really odd. It had a strange aftertaste and did not taste like lemonade. Neither my friend nor I had ever tasted lemonade like that before (and I've had both fresh made and carton lemonade). Also the service was a little lacking, I think because there was a language barrier. I think the waiter had some difficulty understanding us. For example, when my friend was asking if the Josh Rogan comes spicy, I think he thought we were concerned that it would be spicy so he said no. (In actuality, we wanted to know what spice levels were available). We found out when we got the bill that the spice level could be adjusted. It was fine with us, but I think it might be good for other customers to be aware.

A friend was visiting me for the first time in LA and we decided to drive through various different neighborhoods of Los Angeles, which the city offers in abundance. Simply driving down Pico Boulevard from Beverlywood to DTLA offers a variety of unique cultural neighborhoods as you head east. Our first stop was the Grammy Museum to see the new exhibit on the beautiful National guitars. After roaming around the four floors of the Grammy Museum at LA Live, we worked up an appetite. We headed to Hollywood with my friend graciously allowing me to play tour guide. Hollywood is the geographical center of Los Angeles and at one time the entertainment capital of the world. Times have changed and I have rarely over the last 50 years ventured to the heart of the heart of Hollywood on Hollywood Boulevard. However, what I learned is that there are wonderful gems, like El Capitan theater and the Roosevelt Hotel amid the tourist traps. One such gem at the epicenter near Hollywood and Highland is the Indian restaurant Bollywood Grill. I have to admit I was expecting a huge production of 30 or more dancers with wonderful choreography to the beat of the tablas doing the Filmi dance trying to drag me into the production as we opened the doors leading to this joint. Instead while we there at a strange mid day time, we were greeted to a very peaceful subdued ambiance with soothing sounds beckoning you down a narrow rectangular dining room to the smiling greeting by the host at the host station near the back. The menu was extensive and I immediately ordered a chai which is my desired Indian drink, samosa's (which is not GF) and papadums with mint and tamarind dipping sauces. Both quelled our immediate hunger ready for our shared entrees: lamb biryani and chicken tikka masala with mango chutney. What makes Indian food so good is the layering of spices and sauces. Bollywood is forgiven for not having a big energetic, colorful synchronized Filmi dance while we dined. On second thought, the relaxed soothing and simple decor perfectly matched the very tasty and well prepared food. This dinner was perfectly scripted with a delicious ending that left us very satisfied. Well played Bollywood Grill.

We are here for dinner last night and it was delicious! The reviews for this place had said that it didn't look like much but was delicious, and those reviews are spot on! The restaurant is small with no frills, and the servers were direct and to the point, taking our orders without much talking. The food really speaks for itself though. We had the vegetable Samosa chaat, mild chicken Tikka masala with rice, and garlic naan. The naan was fluffy and crispy and delicious! We didn't really know what to expect from the vegetable samosa chaat but it was so flavorful! The chicken tikka masala was lacking a bit in flavor, but since we got in very mild that may have affected the taste slightly. Overall a delicious meal that we would definitely eat again.

    take out!!!

I'm so glad I found this place. The first time was completely by accident, my friends and I were wandering around Hollywood starving and walked in with zero expectations. But the food here blew us away. Like... genuinely blew us away. Hollywood is full of tourist-trap restaurants, so finding a spot that actually cares about flavor and quality is rare. Bollywood Grill is the opposite of that. Everything tastes fresh, authentic, and made with intention. I've tried the Chicken Korma, Chicken Tikka Masala, garlic naan, mango lassi, and their rice, all of it was AMAZING. The mango lassi is honestly to die for. The service is also great, the food comes out fast, and the staff is super kind and attentive. Even the leftovers the next day tasted just as good, which tells you everything. My friends and I left with full, happy, round bellies, and I'm definitely a repeat customer now. If you're in Hollywood and want actual quality food instead of the usual touristy spots, this place is a gem. Highly recommend.

Service was very welcoming and quick! The food was to die for. Came out fresh and full of flavor. Hardly had to wait for it to come out, and it did not disappoint. This is my second visit and it was just a great as my first.

I came for lunch with a group of friends after visiting a gallery at the Ovation shopping center across the street. I did not realize that there was such a high caliber restaurant in the heart of touristy Hollywood. All the dishes tasted distinct and fresh. The garlic naan was one of the best in town, with good garlic flavor and brushed with butter. They have a good selection of street foods including frankies. I ordered the lamb curry frankie, rolled in flatbread and topped with chutneys as well as fresh cucumbers and onions. The curry sauce was flavorful and not greasy. The papdi chaat has all the flavors and textures - sweet, spicy, tart. Service was on point as well.

My friend got Indian food a few weeks ago so I felt inspired to get some too (or Pakistani food,…read morenot sure). Regardless, I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed it. I love how big the naan is that they give you. They make it fresh too. Even though I've tried a bunch of their skewers, this time I tried the fish karahi, which came with my choice of naan or rice. I chose naan. It was really good but it was a little too spicy for me. The cashier told me they could add yogurt the next time around. However, what really stood out is how the fish was cooked. I feel in American restaurants, fish is just cooked in a way that makes it just taste ok. However, at like Chinese restaurants, they really know how to make the fish taste amazing and have it be so plump and juicy. They make their fish like that here! The juicy and plump way where you're just like, "Wow I just want to keep eating this!" I also got a chicken roll too which is fried and crispy. Good appetizer. They also have water for free here too but I didn't see the dispenser so I just brought something from my car in. The ambiance is cozy here. Nice seating area. Worth visiting if you want really good LA Indian food and haven't been spoiled by extraordinary SF Indian food.

In addition to biryani, this South Asian spot makes hearty Pakistani dishes with bold spices and an emphasis on tender meat. Hyderabadi Lamb Biryani: This biryani is a magical blend of basmati rice, spices, onions, ghee, and lamb shank. The soft and luscious lamb meat easily flakes off the giant bone. The separate ingredients are beautifully layered together so the flavors are distinct and complementary. The warm spices provide great depth of flavor. On the side is a cool and creamy mint chutney. Nihari: Large tender beef shanks are slowly braised in a vibrant spice blend with onions, garlic, and ghee. The soft gelatinous connective tissue throughout the succulent meat is delicious coated in the rich and meaty stew. Tear chunks off the large chewy naan and form pockets filled with beef and gravy.
