Well that was super fun. When we arrived no one was on the desk so we began to wander the first floor. If you just want to walk around, and check out the machines that is free. I saw someone who works there and he gave us a quick 'tour'. Pinball machines are set up here by year beginning in the 1930's! There a many from the 70's, a big collection of 80's and then further back it's a mix. The tour took up upstairs. There is a wheelchair lift here, however, you have to step over a barrier at the bottom of the doorway leading to the stairs so not really handicap accessible? Call if you need info on that. Keep that door at the bottom of the staircase open so you can get back! At the top of the steps is a private event room. (sorry no photo, a meeting was going on). Turn right after the event room and follow the hallway to the 'Blue Room' on the left at the end. Here you'll find a small, open space for a party with shelves of board games, a table and comfy couches. The Blue Room includes several racing games (seated style), shooter games, skeeball, basketball throw and other arcade games. There were a couple dozen pinball machines without an outlet to play them stored in this space. Our tour guide tells us for events up to 150 people, these games are moved out and tables moved into that space. The second floor hosts many other businesses so be respectful when in the halls. Our visit lasted about two hours playing all the games. Some of the pinball machines include information on who designed them and other info. The Star Trek machine is signed by some of the actors. Scoobydoo, Addams family, Aerosmith, Rick & Morty, Dolly Parton, on and on. Some games have hepatic feedback - like when the dinosaur eats your ball in the Jurasic Park pinball game the entire machine shakes. I love how the machines are all set to 'free play'. You just hit the start button (usually a round button on the front) and you get your three balls. When that game ends, hit start again and you get another three balls. Also, if you loose a ball quickly, you get an extra ball. Really makes for a fun experience. Admission is ten dollars per person (all ages), cash or credit, and covers playing all the available games for the whole day - come and go as you please. Parking is available next to the building in two lots. No food or drink are available for sale here. When hosting an event here, bring your own catering. Contact them/visit their website for details on hosting events. Public restrooms are on the upper level off the hallway. The museum space is more or less warehouse space. It was cold in there when we visited and we left our coats and hats on (February). When there are a lot of games being played, it gets loud, so be prepared. There are a few step stools for the smaller kids. Check next to or under the machines for those or if you have a collapsable one at home maybe bring it along just in case they are all in use. During our week day visit there were a fair amount of adults in there enjoying pinball and all the other games. Staff are knowledgeable and very easy to chat with. Definitely plan an outting to visit this fun museum diguised as an arcade. Alone, or with the kids. You might become the 'fun uncle' after a day here with the nibblings. read more

We had so much fun discovering the Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas several years ago, so when I heard about this similar concept in Rhode Island, I had to visit. It did not disappoint! The variety of functioning arcade games is limited, but there are many working/playable pinball machines from different eras and manufacturers. And sadly, many non-functioning machines (hopefully temporary). Michael and the quirky staff will enthusiastically provide a quick tour of the no-frills warehouse. With the super reasonable $10 all-you-can play concept, I was really able to test out so many different machines which gave me a new appreciation for the differences between the older Bally and Williams machines, and some of the modern outrageously themed machines. Surprisingly, I quickly discovered I had strong preferences in pinball machines. Who knew?! Ultimately, I found myself drawn to the simpler Bally style machines from decades ago, as the modern flashing lights in the dark warehouse were a bit of a sensory overload for me. As fun as The Simpsons and Family Guy might be, I hope Michael and his team are able to preserve the classic machines for many others to discover and enjoy for a long time! read more

This is one of the coolest hidden gems in the area!! I wasn't sure what to expect from this random warehouse in Pawtucket, and I certainly wasn't anticipating two floors filled with hundreds of machines in various states of repair. Tours are free and admission is $10 if you want to play. It's easy to spend hours exploring the pinball machines and occasional other gems like SkeeBall, Temple Run, and a Michael Jackson game (?). It's a different vibe than Free Play, there's no food or drink and so people really come to lock in and play pinball. It can be a little overstimulating with all the lights and sounds so bear that in mind if you are sensitive to that. They have many historical and/or significant pinball machines with little informational plaques on the ones that are particularly notable. This is the perfect rainy day activity! A well-hidden gem. I was introduced to this place by my buddy Dennis. Occupying a couple of floors in a non-descript building in Pawtucket is Electromagnetic Pinball Museum and Restoration. A treasure trove of mostly pinball, and some arcade games. Most working, with some 'works in progress' sprinkled throughout. From early mechanical tables to the newer digital machines, this place has it all. I played lots of games I hadn't seen since the arcades of the early 80s. My forearms were sore for a couple of days from all that flipper action! $10 lets you play as long as you'd like, and there are restrooms. No food or drink available. Friendly owners. read more

This place is gigantic! It's both the museum and a place to play vintage arcade and pinball machine games. Even have space set up with board games and records. You can rent to the event space for $150 for a few hours or play a limited pinball for $10. The owner, Mike, is really helpful and if you ask him nicely, he'll show you how to get to wizard level on certain games. There is interesting signage about the history of certain games as well. Let's be clear. This place is a treasure. That said, I think it's important to go in with the right set of expectations. The place is also a little rough around the edges. Which is fine. It is what it is. A loving home for pinball machines, enthusiasts, and even the pinball curious. As many pinball collections do, this one has grown and grown to the point where the enterprise has taken over additional spaces in the warehouse in which it lives. While you could clearly spend all day just playing the pins in the first narrow and long passage, there is so much more as you explore deeper and deeper into the building. There is a fantastic array of working machines in great condition. But upstairs there is also an equally fantastic array of machines that are actively being restored. Some are just there for historical value, and might not ever be playable. But so it goes. The result, is that the feel of the place is more like walking into a pinball garage than an arcade. Perhaps when there are more people playing, the vibe is a bit more festive. My visit was delightful, and I too never wanted to leave, but all the same playing those machines felt a little bit clinical? That may not be the right word. Some of the older machines that are indeed playable, are marvelous for training newer players on basic skills. The new machines are so fast and distracting, that it can be hard to focus on learning how to line up shots. But on an older electromechanical table which features a horizontal row of drop targets, one can really figure out how to position a ball on your flipper so it goes exactly where you are aiming. The newer machines are fantastic, and the Stern's are equipped with functioning Insider Connect readers, which I appreciate. And the custom built ones in the collection, which are one-of-a-kind models, were surprisingly fun to play too. For $10 this place is also a value to boot. There is free parking in the back, and my bet is that once you enter the doors, you too will never want to leave. I am very much looking forward to returning, and lending additional support to the work of a dedicated band of enthusiasts who are helping to keep pinball alive. read more

Short take: This place is amazing. It's $10 for free play all day on all the dozens and dozens of boards/machines out on the floor. Crazy good value. Great for kids and adults, my 5-year old had a blast. Mike and the staff are all wonderful, funny, honest people who love to share their amazing hobby. Some tips for when you go: it's pretty much in a warehouse, so when it's cold, it's cold. Keep your coat on. Some boards work perfect, some don't--always let someone know if there's a problem, they fix and repair them all. The arcade selection is way less than the pinball. There's no food or drinks, really. The last thing I want to say is that I appreciate this place because it's human. If you love arcades and pinball, you know that nowadays it's almost all fake--bright lights, ultra-sanitized, manipulative-- run by faceless, soulless corporations that don't care about anything but money. We found this place completely by chance, but what an unexpected pleasure. The place is clearly the result of a labor of love. Volunteers fix the machines and help run the place and they are also volunteers of very important other duties in the city, advocates for disabled and other health and personal needs. They have an amazing array of machines including the earliest pinball machines we've ever seen. Admission if you want to play is $10 per person cash for as long as you want, you can even go to eat and come back. Obviously, it cost more to pay rent, utilities, and parts to keep it all going. They really care about this history, the clients (who get free walkthrough if they just want to share in the history and not play), and people in general. We've been to a few other retro game places, and half the machines will be broken and some won't play right but this place was I'd say 90% in good working shape and the games were really fun and played well. The guy that seems to run the place is super friendly and goes out of his way to accommodate. They do more for the community besides providing a great place to unwind or have fun. The staff is so warm and inviting. All around great place to hang out and bring friends or to take your significant other on a cute date night. They also have clean well kept bathrooms for a large venue. The only downside is the heating doesn't work well so you should definitely layer up if visiting during the winter time. Okay, I had never even heard of this place before the afternoon of March 16, 2024. And that's saying something, because I'm usually the one who finds something on Google Maps completely random and goes, "Hey guys! Check this out! I wanna go here." Today I was the one being surprised - and what an awesome surprise it was! Mike is a cool dude, and he took us on a quick tour after we paid a super-cheap $10 (you read that correctly), and he told us that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pinball game was rescued from the garbage three days before Christmas. I LOVE Ninja Turtles, so getting to play this game was a real treat. AND it looked like it had the vintage action figures to boot! If you are a dyed-in-the-wool pinball lover, you will love the selection of pinball machines here. And they're all free play to boot!! Yep, pay the $10 to get in, and then play all ya jolly well want. I was literally going, "Oh, come on! Five more minutes!", as we made our way out to the car. This place is fantastic! Their selection of pinball machines covers all of the eras of pinball, from the old wood rail machines to the current modern ones. While there are also some vintage video games and bowling machines, I was really impressed with the assortment of pinball machines. The owners and volunteers are very helpful and friendly. They are very knowledgable and answered a lot of questions that I had about specific machines. I have a pinball machine at home and they were very happy to help me with with an issue I was having.
