I had an amazing experience with Farah, I went on a Saturday with 3 bridesmaids and both moms. She was very aware to what I liked on me and made great recommendations. I Found my dress rather quickly and canceled an appointment at another shop because it was so great. There is a small fee for appointment but that is assumed and it is a no champagne shop. I also opted to use Farah for my alterations, I did not have many and did 2 appointments and then a final try on and pick up. She really caries about her customers and made the process seamless. My dress was reasonably priced, it's really the designer accessories that can sneak up on you. My experience here was amazing! They were so helping in selecting a dress, helping me narrow down what I was really looking for, and then deciding on the perfect dress! It was a beautiful strapless dress but I wanted to add some flowy straps to hang off my arms and they were able to add those no problem. They were very intentional about making sure the straps were comfortable and not restricting in any way. Farah was especially detailed in marking the dress for alterations, making sure I was comfortable standing, walking, and sitting. She gave great advice for the bustle, for what to wear underneath, and for what to do if it needed to be dry cleaned after the wedding. I can't say enough good things about my experience at Elegance by Roya in old town Alexandria. I purchased my dress there about 10 months before my wedding. During that time I fluctuated in weight pretty dramatically due to some personal life circumstances. It was too late to order a new dress size so the bodice of the dress had to reconstructed to a larger size. I was terrified that the dress would be ruined b/c if the invasive nature of this kind of alteration, but Farah did an incredible job & after it was done I could not even tell that anything had changed except that the dress fit much better. Later about 3 weeks out from the wedding, I lost a lost a substantial amount of weight and had to come in very last minute to have the dress taken in which was very stressful for me. Farah was able to get rush alterations done quickly and the dress at the final fitting (a week out from the big day) fit like a GLOVE. I've completed my transaction and can now provide an objective review. Let me start by saying that the selection and customer service at Elegance By Roya is good. Ayesha was attentive and helpful with my selections. I loved 3 of 6 dresses that she selected. I don't have an exact budget, however, I am a conscious shopper so I wanted something from the SAMPLE sale that was advertised, off the RACK. I'm active duty military and was reassured that I would be given a good price. My plan is to resell the dress. I felt very pressured to finalize my decision quickly because of the anticipated increased foot traffic over the weekend and because of alterations (wedding July). I selected Dress #1, Martina Liana gown ($4000). After getting the price with an offer of 30% off, I decided not to make a decision at that time. I emailed the next day to inform Ayesha that I'd changed my mind in favor of dress #2, Enzoani Ora 2020 ($4600) which was less bulky and better for a beach wedding. I was out of town so an electronic contract and payment link was emailed. The contract and pricing for Dress #2 also reflected 30% off. After returning from my trip, I reached out to the store because I wanted to try on dresses #2 and #3 again before taking the dress out of the store as their contract doesn't allow for returns or exchanges. Dress #3 is Enzoani Raquel 2022 ($3400). It is very similar to Dress #2 but fits better and I was told would require "less alterations". Okay, great! Decision made...this is it! I'm leaving the store with a beautiful dress today! Well, this is where things got dicey and shady for me. I'd already paid $2932 for Dress #2 (there was ~$390 balance remaining). However, I was now being told that I only owed an additional $53 instead of $390. Well, that's interesting! Shouldn't I be getting a refund of about $500 since Dress #3 is so much less than Dress #2? Ayesha tells me that Dress #3 will only be discounted at 15% off and made up some lame excuse for the financial exploitation. I said something but decided to keep it classy rather than making a scene. I was also fully aware that I'd previously signed a contract and felt obligated to follow through. Although there was a moment during the completion of the transaction where I imagined myself having the strength of Incredible Hulk and flipping the whole damn desk over. I digress...I also calmly waited for the alterations quote to see just how greedy this business is. My alterations quote was $1750! Got it! Price gouging 101! Either you don't want my business or your business is struggling to move inventory so willing customers are simply being ripped off...sad either way. With that, my overall experience was NOT good. Why do businesses resort to exploitative tactics? Price gouging is a bad business practice even in this economy. Why not sell old inventory at a consistently discounted price and write off the losses on taxes? Where's the accountant?? Bottom line: I'm going to be cute and happy at my wedding but I would NOT recommend patronizing this business unless you're fine with being taken advantage of. I can't condone any degree of financial exploitation especially when dealing with women who are planning and preparing for emotionally charged experiences like weddings where we're forced to make hundreds of decisions in a short span of time. An update as a response and as a warning to future brides that may use Elegance By Roya's services. $1100 is not the standard price for wedding dress alterations, if anything there are multiple places in the DMV that offer to alter the dress for half the price. These are reputable places btw - feel free to message me for the person I used for my new dress. Additionally - I'd like to respond to Roya. I cancelled my appointment to re-measure for a few reasons. 1. I didn't want to drive 45 minutes to be measured again because I know I haven't gotten smaller over the 6 or 7 months I waited to get the dress. 2. Given that I had less than 2 months until my wedding date, I lacked the desire or capacity to go back to your boutique. In fact, I spent my time researching new boutiques to find dresses that wouldn't take more than 6 months to get my dress. 3. I really didn't want to go to you for an opinion, then trust that same opinion, and pay $1100 for alterations as I have already spent nearly $3000 on a wedding dress from you...and be disappointed. Final note: they are FINAL sales y'all, no refunds whatsoever. So please be picky about what size is ordered, because they may want to order a larger size for you to potentially spike up the costs of your alterations. Edit: Roya, I have NO records of when my dress was ordered. Your company did not send any updated emails following the sale you made to me. The only email I received was in April signing the sales agreement, and later in September from your company requesting me to pay the rest of the dress off. read more

At a frazzled moment, I called Elegance by Roya to see if they had a same-day appointment. They let me know if I could get there in 20 minutes they could fit me in. I ran my whole bridal squad down King Street and was greeted by Abagail. Abagail listened to me better than anyone had and let me walk to the store with her. She was amazing at letting me discreetly know what was in my price range and what was not. I so appreciated her attentiveness. Abagail brought me over a dress that I almost didn't try on because I wasn't in love with it on the hanger, then I got it on and that was the dress I went with! My dress came in 7 months later and the store was able to hold on to the dress due to my travel schedule for me to come and pick it up! I went to ERB in October to try on wedding dresses for the first time and worked with Ayesha. The bridal salon is beautiful, and Ayesha was wonderful. Ayesha was patient with me and my mom during the first visit, and even when I went several emails she was pleasant; it was great to see her face today.
