Went in with a tricky problem. My shifting was just off. Upon investigation, first suggestion was to upgrade my bike from gen1 di2 to gen2 di2. Fyi, that's $2000. I asked more questions and Chinzo reluctantly settled on plan b which was to tear down and rebuild everything. $250 quoted for the work. I didn't think that was right so I went elsewhere. Tom @rei in Issaquah solved my issue in 20 minutes with one ordered part @$35. Seriously. Please be aware of up selling. Chinzo tried to up sell me on a groupo when the issue was set screws and a deraileur hanger. He also tried to up sell on dura ace cables. Me, I'm staying away. read more

I was recently shopping for a new gravel/cross bike. I did a bunch of research and one of my 15 stops was Element Cycles in Redmond. Element was the only shop that wanted to get me on a few bikes as opposed to the other shops that wanted to just stare and talk. I'm also a tall guy so inventory played a part, but Element had multiple choices in the 60 cm size. I ended up dealing with Tyler who is awesome. He's very personable and knowledgeable. I own a retail operation with a sales staff so any sleaze sales tactics don't work. Tyler was great and I've since been back to buy gear for the new ride. Tyler was just as helpful selling me $50 in gear as he was selling me my new bike, that was cool. I highly recommend checking out Element Cycles if you're shopping for quality bikes with great service. read more

Element Cycles rocked! I was back in town after moving away 5 years ago and wished to hit some of the old roads I used to love. I went to Element because they are the same folks who used to own Sammamish Valley Cycles, where I had bought 2 bikes during my Seattle days. They still had me in the computer! I rented a Pinarello Dogma 65.1 from them. It was expensive, but hey - it was a Pinarello. When I walked in and said I had a reservation for a 54, I was told I looked more like a 53 since Pinarello's run differently than other bikes. They were right! They then took the time to make sure that I was fitted properly with multiple seat and handlebar adjustments. So when I rolled out I was dialed in. The bike had some shifting issues while I had it, but otherwise was excellent. Great staff - very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. I'll be back on my next visit. read more

My wife and I, for various reasons, have bikes that are very special to us. For that reason, we have been particular about the bike shops we might bring them to. Element Cycles has won us over in all of our needs. All of the staff we have interacted with (my apologies if I forget someone) - Lorraine, Jake, Blake, Greg, and Alvin. Especially Alvin! - have been very personable, and appreciate our bikes for the high level of mechanical attention we want for them. Absolutely incredible experience! I've never been in the store physically. Made online purchase of an urban commuter bike, that I was never able to see in person, or test ride. Process was very smooth. Ty and Misha were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and responsive. Had some issues with UPS (no fault of Element), but I placed my trust in Ty. I highly recommend Element Cycle to everyone I know. After years of going to the lowest price or most convenient shop, 4 years ago I decided to develop a relationship with a local bike shop. Having tried most shops in the area (greater Eastside), I knew Element to be knowledgable, courteous, and do great work. Since then my love of Element has deepened and they routinely exceed my expectations. Now I go to Element first, every time, and I trust their advice explicitly. I have been helped here so many times by so many people that I wish I could mention all of them by name. Element hires talented folks that take pride in what they do. I visited 6 different bike store before deciding to purchase my bike here. When I arrived, there was someone there to greet me and and asked what I was looking for? I appreciated that they didn't look down on me. My previous experience at the other bike store wasn't so friendly. I did tell them that I was a first time rider and what my budget was. Ishan (hope I spelled his name right) was able to pull a few selections from the store. He encouraged me to test ride all of them. He even took the time to educate me on all the important mechanism pieces on a bike. I appreciated how he valued my time and didn't pressure me into buying a bike that same day. Very knowledgeable service staff. Ordered and installed replacement hub sleeve parts for my specialty Easton CF wheel. Would have fit it for me too, if I'd had the right kind of brakes. Refused to tune up my bike without replacing my front caliper with a disc brake assembly, since they knew I planned on installing a CF front wheel. The refusal is their right and I respect that, no stars off. I still go there for some parts and so forth, though Redmond Cycle is my main local bike shop. BTW this store has a cycling fit machine to help you get the best geometry for your body and pedaling mechanics. If I wanted a conventional frame (I ride a crank-forward), I definitely would have used this and probably would have gotten a frame from them. read more

Took a bike in with a broken rear derailleur cable and the cable end caught up in the flight deck. Mechanic was kind enough to drop what he was doing and check it out on the spot. Ended up being able to dislodge the broken part, saving me $100 on a new right Ultegra brake lever. I'm planning on dropping a lot of dough on a new road bike before long, and they've earned at least a chance at my business. They have to steal it away from Specialized, which I've ridden the past several years, but with Pinarello and BMC in the store I'm more than willing to drop by for a test run given my past experience there. read more

My daughter told me today she wanted to start riding her bike again during this coronavirus "break". I called Element Cycles and spoke with Nick Fisher, who is a co-manager. He said to bring the bike in and he'd take a look at it. Nick was able to check it out, clean it up, put air in the tires, and adjust it for my daughter, all while we waited. This review is based on my very first visit to this shop, I was pissed and will never go back to this shop for anything. When I finished assembling my bike, there was some squeaky noise with the disk brake on my front wheel. I couldn't figure it out, so I took it to this shop for some quick help, as it is just one block away from where I live. Immediately after I told the older guy about my problem, a younger guy goes "We never service any bike bought online". To be honest, I was a little bit embarrassed, as I got my bike from an online store that offers corporate discount with my employer. I was also surprised to hear that, because I didn't expect a FREE help, I told him that I am WILLING to PAY. The problem was fixed and I paid about $15 for a 5-minute service/help. I swear I will NOT come back to this mean shop again. They seem to have big troubles with people buying bikes online. read more

I'm working on restoring a steel frame bicycle. I've had to take the bike in for service a couple of times as parts become available, or I'm ready for a different build stage. The service guys at Element have been great every time. Turnaround time has always been as promised whenever I have to leave the bike, and they've squeezed me in without waiting a couple of times for minor repairs. I rented a high-end road bike for a day's outing. I was coming in from out of town and coordinated with them in advance re measurements etc.. Short story is that they set me up beautifully. I got first class service over the couple days (advance phone calls, pick up and drop off) from at least 4 employees. When I was setting off on the bike one of the guys cheerfully jumped on a bike to lead me to the trail head. Upon return they all recognized me and called me by name. I've rented bikes in several cities and EC provided as good an experience as I've encountered. First class. read more

My last two bikes, which I bought over the last 6 months (BMC road hybrid and Norco Bigfoot fat tire), where both from Element Cycles. I've had generally very good experience at all the bike shops that I've been to in Redmond, Bellevue, and Kirkland, and I've been to most if not all of them. Based on all my excellent experiences with the service department, answering questions, and overall customer service, I now take all my bikes to Element Cycles for service exclusively since summer of 2013, soon after they got new management. Another thing that's great about Element Cycles is location, behind Trader Joe's, Staples, Canyons and cross from Ooba's - and just a few hundred yards off the Sammamish River Trail and Redmond Corridor (formerly Eastside Rails) paved bike paths. It's very common to see people ride their bike into the shop while biking on a nearby path. Element Cycles has also been increasing and enhancing their community activities this year, with more organized group rides, and sharing news and information on their Facebook page. I have several friends who bike for recreation as well as commuting, and they all now go to Element Cycles. I'm in their shop at least a couple of times per month. Recently their product offering, online website (now with inventory status), and service department has been better than ever. Regardless of what some people have reported about their experience in the past, it's worth it for people to check out Element Cycles (or any new bike shop) in person to decide for themselves. Reviews can be a helpful guide, but sometimes they only represent less than 2% of the reality of general service and experience. Element Cycles is not the only bike store on the eastside that I go to, but it's my favorite bike shop and exclusive for any service for my bikes. read more

We'd gone in to tune our bikes and possibly rent another bike for the evening/overnight. Well, we could only manage to tune it, as the owner lady thought it was too risky to lend us the bikes overnight, even if we were ready to pay upfront. We could do all this hassle free at Redmond cycles. Also, why is the owner lady treating her employees so badly? I feel bad buying my things here as you can witness real time micromanagement techniques for free. The employees clench their teeth and help us regardless. If it weren't for the friendly, wonderful employees we'd never consider this place again. Skip this place for a more stress free shopping place elsewhere. So I figured this was indicative of everything else, and left. I could do without for a while and return to my old bike shop. There is reason I have been extremely selective about my purchases at your store because of the pricing. I have found nearly everything I have purchased from your store at another store for less than my sometimes useable "club discount". I don't want to launch into a slander campaign, but if my review is going to be slandered than I will prove it. I haven't even spoken of the peddle issue I brought to you and you yourself ignored. I thought I was being vary fair, despite having multiple bad experiences with your buisness. I left all details out so I wouldn't look like I was just out to get something. I am genuinely displeased with both how I have been treated and the products you are selling. Your response to my review over a month after I posted it just shows how little you do care. I would never tell a customer they are wrong or try to make a customer look wrong/bad on media outlets. I would only try to resolve that customers issue. Make contact and remedy the problem. Request an update after you solved the problem. This is customer service. P.s. I wrote that review after, for the 3rd time. I stood at your check out counter with products in my hand and I stood there and watched the race on the TV while not 1 not 2 but 3 employees were just mulling about. You had 5 non employees in the store including myself. That's when I googled Performance bike and looked up everything in my hands except the tubes at the redmond store for on average $1.00per gel and $1.50per bar less than you were selling the same product for, yes Probars, GU Rocktane, the expensive stuff. Bought a nice front suspension kids bike here. They sold us a bike that's too big and set it up badly, we had it fixed by her mtb coach. Got them to replace the stem, but once again, after riding it for 5 minutes the stem is loose and handlebars crooked. We don't live near enough to make more than the three attempts we've made to get it worked out. Guess we'll buy future bikes elsewhere. read more

I was excited to try out Element Cycles, formerly Sammamish Valley Cycle. It seems with their new name and location, also came an attitude adjustment... for the worse. I always received amazing customer service from SVC. I've purchased four of my five bikes from them, and they kept them in peak condition. I've recommended them to anyone in the area interested in cycling. Now it seems Element Cycles' business model is more interested in generating new business than keeping their current clients coming back. It's really a shame. I need a new road bike and I hate that I have to go shopping for a reliable, customer-centric LBS at peak season. read more

I had read some not-so-positive reviews that there was some arrogance and a reluctance to assist but I discounted these and chose to find out for myself. I had just bought a pre-owned Trek from a private party on Offer Up. I wanted to get the brakes serviced and add new fenders to make this bike more " commuter friendly" during the rain. I was promptly greeted upon arrival and when I informed him I bought a bike elsewhere and wanted fenders, his response as, " yep, they're in the back", and started to walk in that direction which I assumed was to show them to me, so I followed. Instead he kept on walking into a back room to work on something else and ignored me. Once he heard I bought a bike elsewhere he had no further interest in talking to me. I promptly left reminded of those negative reviews I read. I got my tune-up and fenders at a friendlier shop on Redmond Way and was glad not to drop my $195.00 at this place where you are treated so rudely. read more

Not a good experience. I do not recommend this store to my friends. I had service done on my bike, was told it would be under $200, and no more, so I said that was a fine amount,but do not go over. When I came to pick the bike up they wanted $498, so I was a bit upset. In the end they did perform the needed repairs and changed the charge to $200. Unfortunately, then riding the bike the next day my buddy noticed that all of the front Rotor bolts were loose, very dangerous, so not sure how that was missed. Element cycles replaced my rear brake including rotor, chain, and the back gear derailleur. Three weeks later I went riding at duthie, I attempted to really pedal hard and the gears and chain ghost shifted, my foot came off of the pedal and I broke my leg. I am unsure if this was Elements fault as maybe after replacing the chain and derailleur weeks later the shifting should be re-examined and adjusted, I am not sure? I am not a bicycle maintenance expert. But it would have been nice to know that a new chain and derailleur does not mean that the bike is going to shift correctly under load. This store is no longer SVC, I do not recognize anyone and the service is much different. This place appears to be all about making $$$ and not about correctly servicing bicycles and ensuring they are safe for the riders, they want to make money off of the bicycle industry, at all cost. Other issues that happened: Received a phone call from the store that my part came in, only problem was I did not order that part. They called and said parts were ordered wrong and they had to fire their parts ordering manager because he was messing up. It took a VERY long time for the repairs to be made. One mechanic mis-diagnosed the repairs and a different mechanic called with a much different diagnosis, so it was a bit confusing. With all of this, I still believe the people working there are trying to do a good job, and they seem personal, but with all of the problems and frustration, something just isn't quite clicking yet at this new Element Cycles. read more

The first time I brought my time trial bike in a girl behind the counter said, "oh wow, Ive never seen a bike like that before" Not exactly what you want to hear from your bike shop. then after getting my service done, I find out that my chain has been put back on inside out and backwards...not sure how that happened, but it did... There is no reason I would ever stop back in...for the amount of money many of us spend on our bikes and services, I want to feel like the shop knows what they are doing. I have no confidence in this place, their staff or their services. I would rather drive two hours out of my way because I know I will be taken care of...sorry folks, don't waste your time read more

Me: Old alu. BMC that needs tune up, new tires, chain..., looking for a new Carbon BMC, budget $6k, reason for selecting Element Cycles - high rating and largest BMC retailer in the area Shop: staff - mostly friendly, basic tune up - $95, external cable replacement fee not included in tuneup and costs additional $35 because "It's hard and it takes a long time", wait time for service ~2 weeks, cost for tune up+chain+break pads+cables+tires+new bar tape ~$400,quality of the job - unacceptably, ridiculously poor! Avoid at all cost! Details (pre-service): I needed my BMC serviced and wanted to buy a new Carbon BMC. My old BMC was squeaky and was shifting poorly. I brought in the bike and they est cost would be $200-250 tops. I asked if it would be possible to minimize the amount of time they hold the bike in their shop. I was left with the impression that it would take 3-4h to service the bike and they they will have it ride like new. The mechanic was trying to get me to buy a new bike within 3 minutes of walking in - "you need this one!" pointing to a Granfondo. I did say that I am looking for a new carbon BMC (possibly SLR02/01) and they got me to try one. The manager agreed to rent me their demo carbon BMC bike for a day while my bike is in service if I want to, at a discount rate of 50$ instead of $95 (which generally gets waved if I purchase a bike). Details (drop off): The day of the drop off I arrived at 10AM sharp as requested so they can service the bike ASAP. It turns out that they have 3 tiers of tune up and the basic would just be adjusting breaks, shifters, do some alignments, wipe the dirt off the bike and inspect it (not the impression I was left with earlier). No fancy 4h to take the bike apart, re-grease hubs etc... (that's a ~$250+ service) The mechanic started adding additional fees - 35$ for changing the cables as "it's hard and takes a long time". Additionally he said that I need to buy new bar tape as it is impossible to reuse the old one (~$50). I explained that the bike doesn't shift well and is squeaky (something was off...). The $50 rental deal was forgotten but the mechanic eventually agreed to "make an exception" and offer it again (he was there when his manager instructed him to offer me the discount, not sure if that was dishonest or genuine but I shouldn't have asked a second time). The mechanic asked that I return the rental the same day if possible. I immediately asked how long it would take to service the bike - he said "not very long at all, about an hour or less". So I said that I can wait an hour and not rent the bike (saving me an additional 3 hour round trip from Seattle and $50). Instantly he said that there are 6 other bikes before mine (despite of having scheduled 2 weeks in advance) and that would be impossible. I suspect that this was done in order to get me to ride the rental bike... either ways even if it's just poor scheduling it's still unprofessional granted our initial agreement for as fast as possible service and the 2 weeks notice! Details (pick up) I returned the rental bike the very next morning at 10AM sharp and picked up mine. The chain and gears looked dirty and old, I couldn't tell if they have replaced the chain. Absent the handle bars, tires, and a gentile wipe of the frame it didn't look like they did much. The handlebar tape was handed to me unraveled and it was taped around my bell!!! Within a minute of picking up the bike, while they were processing my payment the caps fell off the handle bars. I had to ask the guy who handed me the bike to fix all this, he fixed the caps and glued one side of the tape, leaving the other still a bit unraveled. This was all unacceptable granted the amount of money I paid! The guy apologized about it and agreed that it was unacceptable but did nothing further (other than process my payment of ~400). The bike was shifting a little better now but it was still squeaky and sounded funny. At this point I didn't want to have any further dealings with these guys at any cost!!! They called me later that day to tell me that they forgot to charge me the 50$ for the bike rental (which wasn't included in the ~400 I already paid). I expressed my colossal disappointment and they insisted I pay the 50$ and that they can take a look at the remaining problems - again (wasting an additional 2-3 hours of my time)!!! This was highly unacceptable at this point and I don't trust them, nor do I want to waste my time dealing with them again! Conclusion: A week later it turned out that my frame was cracked and that's probably why the bike was sounding squeaky in the first place. The quality of the service was abominable especially considering the high price I paid. The neglect of my concerns, the lack of transparency and the little tricks they employed in order to squeeze more money out of my pocket were truly repugnant. I urge you to avoid Element Cycles at all cost! read more

This is based on a one time stop in. I was looking for bikes for myself, husband and son. We stopped by to get some information about good options for each of us. There was one other person being helped by an employee so I walked around aimlessly hoping to get some assistance and direction, and no one approached. There were two employees rearranging the floor, and although they saw me, neither made an effort to assist me. Another person walked in and they were immediately helped. They carry a reasonable selection of stuff - full RRP, but if you need something, chances are you'll find it there. But don't expect to talk to anyone. They'll ignore you and give you one word answers and then you'll have to try and find someone to actually take your money. Then there's the workshop - I don't think I've ever seen such shoddy workmanship - especially for the price, and especially when there is a fantastic workshop a few hundred feet up the road. They don't follow instructions, they take forever, they do things you didn't ask them to and they mess up what you actually did ask for - so bad that after a single ride I just redid it all myself. Yeah, I'll stop in for tubes or co2 cartridges again, but I'll never go back for service. read more

2.5 stars. I've been to Element Cycles a few times now and have had very mixed experiences. As other reviewers have noted, they stock a nice range of products and everything is well-organized and easy to find. I needed some old tube rubber for a project a while back and they even rummaged through their bin in the back to hook me up. So five stars for that. However, I ran into some trouble this morning when I went to get a flat repaired. After waiting 15-20 minutes (despite an empty store), I was informed that the $10 a la carte flat repair charge was in fact only for labor and didn't include the new tube. Seeing my surprise, the salesperson hastily removed the labor fee, which would have been great had he not become super passive aggressive for the rest of the transaction. Honestly, I would have rather he stuck with the original price, apologized for the confusion, and politely explained the breakdown for future reference. Instead, the grudging refund left me feeling like they didn't really need or want my business, anyway. I really wanted to like these guys, but from now on I'll be going to Gerk's for my cycling needs. It's a little farther, but at least I know their customer service is consistently top-notch, which I unfortunately cannot say for Element Cycles. read more

i got my tyres and tubes replaced .. When I initially asked I was told if I buy the tyre from store they will be installed. Later I noticed I was charged for the labor.. I was contemplating at first to buy the tyres online as they were on the expensive end, but as they suggested they would install them I decided to have them brought and installed at the store.. My son and I spontaneously decided to ride the Sammamish River Trail and needed bikes. We found Element Cycles on Google Maps and gave them a call to see if they rented. The young man answering the phone was friendly and informative, letting us know they were 100 yds from the trail. We were at the shop within 20 mins and on the trail 10 mins after we arrived. They set us up and processed are payment at lightening speed. The quality of the rental bikes was great as was the service. Highly recommend! read more

I brought in a new German scooter a few days ago because the tires were flat and I misplaced my German pump. It was a present for my son's birthday, so I really needed the tires to be pumped. I asked if they could fill the tires or had the pump I could buy. The boy who "helped" me told me the best he could do was put in new tubes (on brand new tires). I asked if there was anything else he could recommend and he said no and that no one else in town would be able to help me either. I left thinking "That sucks! It's a brand new scooter for my son's birthday and I am going to have to buy new tubes." Across town at REI, I did more shopping and stopped by the bike department to reluctantly ask the same question. The man there took 10 seconds to give me an adapter that changes the end of the tire valve to fit my pump. BOOM! Done! And at a store that doesn't even specialize in my issue. I thought to myself, why didn't the kid at Element recommend the same thing when I asked if there was anything else I could do? The answer: their business model is broken. They want to upsell you, not listen to what you want. In fact, on the same trip just in front of me, I overheard a young man trying to get a job there. He said he didn't have any bicycle experience, but could sell anything to anyone. Needless to say, the manager told him to wait around because she wanted to talk to him more. From all the trips I've made there and the hundreds of dollars I've spent, it took 1 minute to show me how much my business was worth. I won't be going in there again. read more

Came in to see if I could get my brakes looked at and the mechanic was so terribly rude I will NOT be back. With the amount of $ I spend on service and parts for my bike, I will not put up with that type of attitude. They apparently don't need any business.
