I visit Portland, ORE at least once a year to visit family and we always stop here at least once (and usually a couple times during the trip). With the plethora of eats to choose from, a friendly/efficient staff and service, and in or outdoor seating available, Elephants Delicatessen is a spot that's a must visit when you're in this fun city! There are multiple counters for different types of food. There's a sandwich/soup station, a pizza station, a hot foods station (for burgers & specialties), a cold deli station for cold salads/sides, and a bar/barista inside for adult beverages or coffee. Additionally, there's an area to purchase bottled wine and jams/jellies. Grab whatever items you order and pay at the register. If you order from a station, bring your ticket with you as that's where you get charged. Pretty much any type of deli flavor you're looking for, you can find it here. Some of my favorites involve the following: -Teriyaki Chicken Wings -Curried Chickpea Salad -Reuben Sandwich -Tomato Bisque -Corn & Crab Chowder -Broccoli Salad -Turkey and Avocado Sandwich -Pizza Slices (All of them!) I'm sure there's plenty of items I'm missing but those are the ones that stood out to me since I've eaten them multiple times. The staff is very helpful and move efficiently with all the orders flying around. As for seating, there's plenty of seating indoors or you can sit on the patio area outside. What a great spot! I appreciate the private parking lot. First off, the service was fantastic! All the staff were friendly and helpful. We split up and hit the counters that appealed to our hungers. There are so many options here from pizza to burgers to soup and sandwiches. The food was all made to order and we had it pretty quick. Elephants Delicatessen has such a cute and cozy ambiance. I love that it's all in one place with a bakery, sandwich shop, bar, market, and hot food bar. The staff was also very friendly. I had the steak and chimichurri sandwich and it was amazing. The fries were great, and I also loved their candy selection. The only downside for me was that all of the cupcakes are gluten free, so they were a bit dry and dense compared to regular cupcakes. We happened to be in town for the day and when we saw this place was walking distance from where we were, with great reviews, we decided to give it a try. Super happy we did, definitely a place I would come back to again. We assumed it would be a nice little deli we could get a sandwich from but we underestimated what we were walking in to. It was much larger than expected and there were so many things to choose from. They had chairs where you could dine in but you could also just pick up a cart, shop around, and take things to go. It was very busy which is always a good sign! They had little stations with different food options. Soups, sandwiches, meatloaf, Mac and cheese, pizza, meats, cheeses, and so much more. They also had a lot of ready to go meals you can just grab and go. We ended up deciding to get a couple baguettes, some cheese, olives, and meats. When we were choosing cheese and meats to get the person who helped us was so kind and took his time letting us try things before we made our final decisions. He had excellent suggestions and definitely had a lot of knowledge. We ended up getting probably more than we needed but it was so fun and as we are from across the bridge, we wanted to get as much as we could. I also got a little box of their Mac and cheese which was also yummy! Overall, I would come back and would def recommend this place to others! My coffee took a while to be prepared because the barista forgot, but she was extremely nice and offered me a coupon for a free coffee on my next visit. My Tillamook grilled cheese was super cheesy and pull-apart stringy- but it was my cream of mushroom- with a touch of sherry that was every bit satisfying on a cozy afternoon. Visited here on the recommendation of a Pittock Mansion volunteer and I loved it so much it was the only place I visited twice on my trip! Parking lot which is free with a 1 hour limit to customers. Both times I visited I went to the sandwich counter and got Mama Leones soup which was so delicious. I got the turkey and cheddar sandwich and added avocado. The next visit I got the tuna salad and added cheese and avocado to that. Everything was delicious and tasted so fresh. I love that there's so many food and drink options. You can order a variety of hot foods, but you can also simply select items from the deli counter or straight from the fridge to take home. All the staff were friendly and helpful; especially since I wasn't completely sure how the deli section worked. My wife ordered a fried chicken sandwich. The breading was nice the crisp but a little on the salty side. Honestly the Fries were really the show stopper. I'm a huge sucker for garlic-anything, but these garlic fries were amazing. I ate from the deli counter which is really simple. They just weigh whatever you pick and charge per pound. Now this is a deli as it should be. Their sandwich selection was endless and they will let you modify anything on the menu as you desire, no matter how strange the request may be. They have a great lunch charcuterie counter, a coffee bar and desert/pastry selection to finish with. There are also pizzas to be had, and Knick knacks out the wazoo! Seating options range from outdoor to indoor across several rooms. It's very clean on the inside and has the feel of antiseptic white tiles mixed with a Willy Wonka feel of anticipation of good things to come. I visit Portland a lot. It's one of my favorite places to find and try new foods. I had heard about Elephants Delicatessen before, but I never had the opportunity to go. On my recent trip, I was pleased to find out that they were located down the street from my hotel. As soon as I stepped inside, I was surprised by the amount of options they offered for food. They also had options to take home. There were items available to purchase, such as candy or some drinks. The place wasn't so busy. There were separate areas to order food & there was a bar area. I asked if they were still serving breakfast since they advertised "All Day Breakfast" on their menu, but I was informed that it wasn't actually all day, & that they stop serving it at 2. So, I ended up getting a sandwich. Turkey Chipotle, and it changed my life. There were no words to describe this sandwich; it was one of the best sandwiches I've had. I finished it in 5 minutes. It was what I needed in a hot summer day. The flavors & ingredients complement each other so well. The sauce was amazing. The bread was crispy but not too crispy. The overall meal was very refreshing. However, the customer service: This would've been a 5 star review if the customer service would've been better. This doesn't apply to the gentleman who made my sandwich. He was very patient and went out of his way to make me feel welcomed. It was my first time here so I was a little confused by the check-out process. I didn't know where to pay for my food and the employees, unfortunately, didn't help. They seemed bothered that I was walking around with a plate of food, trying to find a checkout area. I wasn't greeted by them and some of them didn't even acknowledge me. Easily the most charming Elephants Deli location out there! From the outside to the inside, the place screams homey and classics. This is further confirmed by the number of local and regular patrons. Shelves of goodies from food to treats to wines to toys neatly displayed inside. It's honestly a bit overwhelming to pick what to get here becausw of the VAST variety and options they have: sandwiches, made-to-order dishes, salad bar. There really was everything for everyone. Got myself a plate of stuffs from the salad bar and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This way you can try a few different things. Everything I got was fresh and tasty; well-seasoned all around. What a fantastic place this is. There is literally something for everyone, and it's all great. The staff are kind and pleasant, and very knowledgeable. I'm a big fan of the various prepared foods, like the mac and cheese and the various preparations of salmon. The takeout is great, and it's also a really nice place if you prefer to eat in. Also, as a more practical observation, I live on the east side and find Elephants on 22nd to be so convenient if I need to meet in person with somebody coming from the Beaverton area. We stopped in one cold rainy day for lunch on a whim. It was a beautiful restaurant/shop filled with divine and diverse goodies. We both enjoyed a bowl of piping hot soup. They had a lot of variety of pre-packaged salads, pre made meals, and bakery goodies. I decided to do a combo meal. I had the salmon, broccolini, and chicken curry rice. For dessert, I had the double chocolate cookie. The salmon was moist, yogurt/dill sauce was spectacular. Broccolini was good but I would probably get another veggie with more flavor.
