We have been at Elevation Studios for over 10 years. Their competition team is second to none in the Long Beach area. My daughters have thrived throughout their time there--the creativity in ALL styles of dance, from tap to jazz and hip hop. There have been some hurdles in the past couple of years, especially after the change in ownership. The quality is still fantastic and the new owners are doing a great of of providing more performance opportunities to dancers of all levels. read more

My daughter just graduated HS and started dancing at Elevation Studio when she was 6 years old. She danced on their competitive team for over 10 years. The studio has the best training in the area with wonderful choreographers. Most importantly the teachers truly care about their dancers development as dancers and people. Unwelcoming to new students and parents. Fishy policy that leaves parents unsure who they are leaving their child with... (not allowed to meet, see or speak to the instructor!) And when sharing concerns, attacked by staff for having and bringing concerns to their attention and told our child could not come back until we've been scolded by the owner about the policies - policies that don't allow a parent to know who their child will be alone with for an hour class, and policies that mean you can never be frustrated when they poorly treat and poorly communicate. Everything is last minute, rushed and communicated through an app. The staff is limited and after awhile everything looks repetitive. I have been having problems with this place for over a month now, but I wanted to give it a fair shot to redeem itself. I bought a package of 10 classes in early July after going to one of Keenan's Groov3 classes. I was totally hooked, and I signed up just so I could attend his class. I loved that they had yoga and other adult classes too. But a week after I redeemed my first class, they closed the studio for 3 weeks. Why is this a problem? Because you only have 60 days to redeem all of your classes. So I asked if they would be willing to add that time to my package, to which they replied that they would not. Note: When I was taking class at BIkram Yoga Hermosa Beach, they closed for three DAYS in the middle of my package and they added that time on for everyone, no question. This was three WEEKS. Almost HALF of the time I would have used taking class. But I'd gotten a good deal so I decided I would give it another shot when classes resumed, which they eventually did. Kind of. The schedule went from classes all day every day with plentiful adult options to one, maaaybe two adult classes a day, the rest being for kids. Except for Friday which has no classes. Okay, I could still go to Groov3. Except now I can't because the schedule is totally wiped out. There is no online schedule. There are no classes. And do you know how I found this out? No email from the studio, no warning over social media. I showed up to a completely empty studio and had to hear from another student, who heard it from the instructor's instagram, that he wouldn't be teaching that class there for a few weeks. I don't have Instagram, and I can't even trust this studio to do me the basic courtesy of letting me know when my class has been canceled. I'm sorry, Elevation. Your front desk boy's attitude sucks, you treated me like garbage, and your communication skills are TERRIBLE. I will never, ever, not ever be back here and I will tell everyone I know my experience. This review is for the Groov3 hip hop class taught by Keenan. Dope dope dont ya know! I love this class. As a 30 year old gal, who needs a serious dance fix with some sweet dance music, this class is perfect. I originally took a Groov3 Class in Torrance with Ben Allen, and longed for the days when they would come to the LBC. They're here!!! The Low Down: Most of the time there is a live DJ spinning all the old school and new school jams. The music is non stop and the songs change as if you were in a club. The choreography isn't shaun t work out, and its not Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation. its somewhere in between. And pretty much just amazing... more importantly, do-able. Classes are every Monday from 7:30-8:30/8:45. $15, but free the first time if you wanna just check it. Age group looks about 20 and up, with mostly an adult crowd. 20 Classes for $20!! What a freaking steal. Yes, I got the hook-up through LivingSocial and I'm glad I did. I'm no teeny bopper hoping to join a dance crew, amaze people on some reality dance show, or hump background stage girls in a music video. I an middle-aged man with an adventurous spirit, and the studio definitely does foster my willful energy! The facility is fairly new, with great studio dance spaces, reasonable audio systems, and helpful video cameras in every room so you record the practices or watch them from the holding area. It's easy to schedule classes online (and the music video on their website is inspiring). I'm surprised the website stays, for the most part, updated. The classes stay fairly clean, there is cold water in the main lobby, and they have cooling fans in each room. Now I've only taken the hip hop classes, but I must say I'm rather impressed with the teaching styles. Compared to other studios, the dance instructors at Elevation are respectful and definitely know how to teach. It's not just choreography thrown out you in the basic 8-count fashion. They really do know how to provide basics and training in their specific dance genres. They also understand the class participants they teach, and know how to adjust the class difficulty accordingly! I'm psyched to try other classes, hoping that the instructors in the other classes are just as good. Slight Improvements/Concerns: Parking can be a pain on certain days and mixing with the adults with the youngins can be awkward at times. I also hope the studio brings more variety of dance lessons in the near future. I might be old...but you ain't stopping me from getting my groove on!!! read more

I liked the 20 for $20 deal via living social. The studio is beautiful, and is full of wonderful dancers and instructors. Highly recommend Sari Thomas, one of my favorite instructors which challenges and inspires dancers of all levels. The only downfall are the "dance moms". stuck up, and very stereotype older dance moms. They openly gossip about each other and each others children. So the vibe at this place can be supportive or competitive. Really depends on the people and day. Otherwise, I like this studio. read more

After weeks of doing the same stuff over and over, I learned that each week my daughter was simply learning a dance for pricey recital months down the road. She had 3-4 subs cover the class in the few months we were enrolled. In the end, she learned a basic dance after we paid a hefty registration fee, were asked for a $75 dance recital registration fee, $75 costume fee and pre-ordered tickets @ $20 each. A lot of money for a 2 minute song. What a racket. The big lesson....dance here wasn't a good value. read more

It was pretty large but I guess based on class size we are now in room 2. Class size is small. Average size is 5 to 10 adults. Instructor: Keenan - nothing but fun and energy. He breaks down the dance moves nicely. Sometimes. I cannot keep up with the more complex dance moves but I still try. DJ: It is great to have a nice beat that is constantly changing to keep things fresh. For novice/beginners, great place to start learning hip hop choreography. For advanced dancers, work on your timing/technique. In taking Groov3 in several different locations, I have seen advanced dancers come and join in the fun. No judgment just fun. But, I might be too busy focused on learning the moves. We start with warm-up stretches. We learn small parts of the choreography in half time; And, eventually by the end of the class, we are doing the entire lesson in regular time. There is one downside of a smaller dance class. We are not broken into smaller groups and therefore we get more of a workout. +star for being forced to dance almost the entire time. :) Overall. I would highly recommend this place. read more

This is *the best* dance studio and academy we have experienced, and we've been to a few. My 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son started at this dance studio over the summer of 2014 and have loved every moment of it since. My daughter auditioned and made their dance team. My son decided to take all of the dance classes after enjoying hip hop. They are always dancing and inspired by their teachers. On the technical side, no one beats this studio. My kids have grown exponentially in their abilities, much faster than at their previous studios, because of the individual attention and focus on proper technique. The dance instructors are all amazingly talented, creative, caring, responsive to any issues, and inspiring. The owner's are professional in how they run their business, promptly responsive to any parental concerns, and always looking to provide the best services. They make everyone who enters their studio feel like part of a family. No need to hesitate or shop around on this one! We stretch to pay for this place, but it's worth every penny, and then some! The dividends are apparent in my kids' confidence, posture, and fitness. We simply can't say enough about how wonderful Elevation Studios has been for our family. read more

I am exploring new things to do to stay fit, and I decided to take a dance class. I never really thought I had 2 left feet, I'm flexible and figured my body could move pretty well. But, I haven't taken a dance class since I was probably 2...so I knew I wouldn't be great. If only I had prepared myself for how much I really suck as a dancer!!! LOL! I called Elevation Studios to get some ideas for the best selection for a beginning dance class. The girl I spoke to on the phone was awesome & so encouraging! She really broke down the classes & teachers and made a few recommendations. I loved the fact that the studio offers such a wide variety of classes (including yoga & pilates). I found out you can drop in for any adult class for $12 or buy a series of classes that average about $10 per class. I decided on Beginner Lyrical Jazz on a Mon night. I arrived early & was greeted by a young man who wasn't nearly as friendly as the girl who I spoke with on the phone. I felt a little overwhelmed as most of the people my age (early 30's) were not there for dance, but waiting for their kids to finish dancing. Regardless, I took a seat, spoke with a few moms and waited for my class to start. Soon enough the kiddos finished up and it was time for class to begin. Beginner my ASS!!! I'm pretty sure I was the only true "beginner" in the room! There were about 20-25 people in the class (a full room) ranging from 15-early 40's (maybe 3 people over 25 including myself). It started off great, lots of stretching and movement kind of like an upbeat yoga. Great! After the stretching though, it was all downhill for me! I knew I was in trouble when the substitute teacher for the class asked if they usually did any "traveling". Although everyone shook their head no, we traveled. Well, the class traveled...I stumbled & bumped into everyone. I was in the back corner hoping no one would notice how bad I was. I laughed a lot and stayed with it & will have to admit that regardless of how bad I was, I worked up a sweat, kept a good attitude and had a lot of fun. But only because I could laugh at myself. The worst part was when he broke us into 3 rotating groups to complete the full series of choreography that we just learned. I couldn't hide anymore in the back corner. After the first totally embarrassing time in my group when I was clearly the worst dancer in the room, I got over it and continued to dance. Don't get me wrong, I didn't get many of the steps right and bumped into a few of my fellow dancers, but everyone was nice about it and no one laughed at me or made me uncomfortable. Although I totally sucked, and may need to consider taking a few private lessons before I try another beginner class...I will be back to make a fool of myself. I love taking yoga & pilate's so if the dancing doesn't work out I can always blow the rest of my package doing something where I feel more proficient! read more

Took my first GROOV3 hip hop class and I am a 24 year old with no dance experience outside of the club. I was definitely nervous at first but wasn't nearly as bad as I thought I would be. I go to the 8:15pm classes with Kenan as the instructor and love it! My only critique is that the class didn't start on time. I don't know if it's poor time keeping in the class before it but the class is already a bit late. At least I live close! If you're a 20-something looking to take some actual beginner hip hop classes with fellow 20-somethings and not kids this is the perfect start! No serious dancers that will look you up and down if you mess up thankfully! read more

By far the best studio in Southern California! They offer a great variety of classes for beginners to advance. The style of dance is very current (unlike other outdated studios) and the place has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere! I travel about 30 miles so that my child can receive the best training from some of the most unrivaled choreographers/dancers in the industry (despite being in closer proximity to other studios). I come here on Monday nights for Groov3 and I love it, it's perfect for beginners and the instructor goes at a perfect pace. There's also a live dj spinning tunes nonstop ! The only downfall is that it's about $15 a class and it says they start at 7:15 and end at 8:25 but he always starts late, usually close to 7:25. I'm not trying to be that one person... but that's 10 more minutes to be more familiar with the choreography and get it down, which is a lot of time for me. And $15 is kind of high for only an hour. I hope they start the class on time soon. read more

I was looking for a new dance studio for my kids that would be fun, offer great technique and also have a program for boys. This studio has it all - a great balance of boys and girls classes, with several male teachers. They also have a great balance of technique and fun, and I love that the recital classes/preparation is held outside of normal class time. read more
