I have nothing but praise and gratitude for Josie. I have been taking classes wih her for 6 months now and her 6 point salsa formula works. Prior to Josie's instruction I took classes at different studios and other instructors. I didn't think their teachings were of much value because at the end of the day the success of a teacher is measured by what a student can do. One thing is for certain, even though I was being taught moves and practiced I still could not lead a salsa dance to save my life. As a guy it is so important to have the confidence to lead a girl. Being frustrated and unhappy with my salsa progress I did a google search for latin dance instructors in Long Beach. I decided to give it one last shot because taking classes and not having anything to show for it was getting expensive. I spoke with Josie over the phone and she answered all my questions and within minutes I signed up for some classes. Her classes are structured with warm ups and step by step dance routine instruction building on her six point formula every week. At the end of my first month the only thing that disappointed me was that I did not find her sooner!!! Josie's teaching style is AMAZING. Class is always fun and full of energy. She takes the time to correct mistakes and explains why and how your arm, hand, body etc. needs to be placed or moved to complete a dance step. Most instructors won't spot those fine details and address them to you but to me that makes a huge difference. Your instructor won't be on the dance floor to hold your hand for you all the time so you need to know those things. Josie is so passionate about her craft and her students. She wants all her students to progress and it shows because she takes the time to dance with you and see what needs to be improved. She is always constructive and coaches you the entire class until you get it. She makes you excited about dancing and once you start seeing results your love for latin dance will never be the same and you will always want to get better. I find myself going to salsa clubs with more skills and confidence, quite the change from where I was before. Josie's guidance and teaching inspired me to not to give up so easily. Love it! I always enjoy Josie's classes and here are the reasons why. She is always funny and makes class so fun and enjoyable! I appreciate her being outspoken to especially those guys who 'pretend' to teach me or other girls even being in HER class. We came Josie's Dance Academy was for a choreographed first dance for our upcoming wedding. Both my fiance and I were a bit nervous because we've never taken part in any formal dance lessons as adults. We didn't know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised by her dance skills, her ability to adapt dance and make it accessible for non-dancers like us! She was very professional, and made us feel at ease under her dance instruction. She also was very accommodating to our busy schedules and was able to coordinate times for us to practice. I am not writing this review to comment on the ability of Ms. Neglia to provide professional dance instruction, but I felt compelled to comment on her tardiness in arriving at a dance event for which she committed to give a group lesson at a social dance held in South Orange County. The organizer of the dance advertised that the dance instruction would be given by Ms. Neglia from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. At the most recent event, she did not arrive until approximately 7:20 P.M. and the lesson did not begin until almost 7:30 P.M. This is not the first time Ms. Neglia has arrived late at this particular social event and delayed the beginning of the dance instruction. It is unprofessional and inconsiderate for Ms. Neglia not to arrive on time especially when she has committed to begin the lesson at a specific time. Not everyone who attends these events participates in the dance lesson; they would prefer to dance to the music played by the DJ after the lesson. Everyone pays an admission fee which includes Ms. Neglia's dance instruction regardless of whether or not an individual participates. Those who do not should not be penalized for her inability to arrive on time. read more

I take private lessons with Josie and simply can't begin to describe what a great teacher she is. I travel 2.5 hours each way for my lessons, and they are well worth the trip. When I started lessons with Josie, I could dance the various routines in my salsa 1.5 class, but outside of class all I could dance on the social dance floor was a basic. Josie changed that. After only a few private lessons, I was leading moves on the social dance floor and not just in class. I highly recommend taking privates with Josie. Not only do you learn faster, but you also learn the proper technique. That's how I was able to finally apply what I was learning in class on the social dance floor.
