The gentleman who helped us spoke French and it actually shocked my husband so he was able to order in French which he LOVED haha he was a friendly guy! We got a few items to try the strawberry cake, the tarte and an almond croissant. They were all good! We enjoyed them! Best was the cake topping that we put on the croissant ha! But it was all yummy! Possibly the worst pastries I've ever had and I don't say this lightly. I actually feel bad because I know it's someone trying to make it and it takes guts to open a business, but me and my husband bought five different desserts and they were all flavorless, soggy, and potentially old. We love Eliane Bakery! Highly recommend showing up like an hour within opening, its always busy! My family raves about the quiche (they do a special item that rotates so check their social media for what it is). Their croque monsier was very creamy! This bakery offers AUTHENTIC French pastries!!! My husband and I have been going to this bakery for years. They've changed locations but thankfully we managed to find them again! I wanted something extra special for my daughters birthday and I knew she loved their raspberry Charlotte Mousse Cake which they make in a small version. They made me a heart shaped larger cake that serves eight that was absolutely stunning! C'était magnifique!!! My daughter was thrilled because it really was something of the ordinary. I love Costco chocolate cake as much as the next person, but this was SO MUCH BETTER! It was glorius! And not only did it look a picture it tasted like the freshest of raspberries suspended in a sweet cloud of mousse! You just can't get this kind of stuff anywhere else in this valley! I have purchased lemon tarts, chocolate tarts, croissants, brioches bread and macarons! The lemon tarts are so tarte and bursting with lemon flavor! The Chocolate tarts are soooooo rich and delicious! They don't have a huge selection every day and if you specifically want something, put in a special order. I've been to France multiple times and I was looking forward to this boulangerie et patisserie. However, I felt a bit disappointed by all the impressions Elaine's bakery gave me. Most reviews I've read are mostly positive but when I walked into the bakery the impressions I got was that this place seems to have some problems getting enough customers. Shelves are almost bare and variety of pastries looked rather sad. The entire place screamed bad times and there was no one behind the counter...? Overall, I felt really uncomfortable standing there in the empty and quiet shop... Someone finally showed up after 5 min and he seemed really eager for us to buy more and more. However, the only breads that were on display were 4 Brioches? This is a boulangerie, non? Also got some cigars and macaroons. I'm not going to discuss my pastries in depth because there was not much to it. I would like to assume I came too late in the day on a bad day, maybe? I fell in love with napoleons when in Europe the first time, and now I make it a priority to seek out European bakeries wherever I am - and this place by far has the best I found in the U.S. We've been going here for years and we're so happy to find them again after they moved. All of their pastries are handmade, absolutely amazing tasting and you can tell the time and detail that goes into each. It was a Friday. I was in Provo. There were multiple bakeries involved. This is my life. After stuffing myself on a college mixer lunch (long story) I decided to tour the valley a bit and partake of baked goods. I'm not very familiar with Provo, but Eliane showed up on the Yelp app and I'm not one to ever avoid any promise of a pastry. When I arrived.... well, let me back up. Before I arrived I had to back up. I drove past it, then by the address turned in to the small development and only found it on the south end when I saw the sign that said French bakery. It's on State St, but it doesn't really feel like it's immediately ON State Street. More like, turn in at about 1700 and take the frontage parking lot. Well, she ain't much to look at on the outside or on the inside. But she's not that bad. Just... not "cutesie" or really even decorated at all. I walked in to find a rather large welcome area with a single cash register and several large bakery cases. They weren't very highly populated, so it did feel a little lonely. Plus there wasn't a human in sight. Soon enough the owner (I presume) came out and greeted me. With a smooth French accent he asked what I wanted, and I opted for the pain au chocolat--one of 6 in the case. It was either this or an eclair, but with several bakeries on my list I thought it best to avoid the heavy stuff. A couple of dollars later and I was on my way. The proof is in the pastry, and this didn't disappoint. Light, buttery, but not so very dry as many other croissants are wont to be. No, this was just the right texture and with just enough chocolate. This fella knows what he's doing. I'd go back to try more stuff in a heartbeat. So I can't say much for the business side, and it could use some polish when it comes to the presentation and marketing--but I wouldn't change a thing in the ovens. read more

We've been going to Eliane's French Bakery for several years--since he had a place in Orem. I was a French teacher and took my students there to try authentic French food. Eliane was so kind, and spoke French all the time, so the kids and I could practice the language. My family and I have also enjoyed the quiche, croque monsieurs, pastries, and bread, made fresh each day, even though we live in Davis County. Eliane always greets us with a smile and has yummy suggestions for us. Some of the options need to be ordered 24 hours in advance. Last week, we were in the area packing and cleaning at my father's house close by, so we ordered a whole quiche for the family to share. Even though I had missed an email telling me the bakery would not be open until later, the quiche was brought out to us hot and fresh. It was a meal for the stomach AND the heart as we were tired and a little sad. Out of the goodies I've sampled, my faves: butter croissant, pain au chocolat, cream puff, lemon tart, chocolate eclair, and the fruit tart is my favorite in the valley (ha, I consider myself a connoisseur of fruit tarts). The texture of the crust is not too hard/crispy (though someone complains about it being rock hard in another review, maybe a bad day for the fruit tarts?), and the cream is delicious and doesn't have that shortening/waxy feel on the tongue. I would love to see fresh peaches rather than canned though... The owner is incredibly friendly. His mother's name is Eliane. He is from the once occupied French-occupied Tahiti with a thick French accent--so super nice. He sticks to the French custom of saying "Bonjour" when entering and "Au revoir" when saying good bye, in fact, he says it more than once until you say it back. read more

We have arranged to pick up special order items (during off hours) . We called ahead and confirm pick up. If you haven't visited Eliane and tried their fruit tart, you're missing the kind they have in France. Not the kind they make at Kneaders or Zupas, or even T-Point, but in Paris. The mille faille ("Napoleans") are truly a thousand layers of really thin, yummy pastry embedded in a not-too-rich creme. Their pan-o-chocolat is the best in Utah, IMO. Jacques (that's his name, but I'm making up the spelling) is warm, friendly, inviting, and tries to remember customers' names. I don't understand the one reviewer who said Jacques was rude...it's simply not in his nature, so I'm inclined to believe it was more the customer. The baguette is true-life, thin-crust French, not french bread from Wally World or Albertson's. If you're after French patisserie, this is the place for you. If not, you'll still enjoy their delights. And if you really prefer something less authentic, McDonald's is just a couple of blocks away. read more

Love this place for my dose of European desserts. Not sure about other's experience with the owner but he is always very nice and smiley whenever we're there. I always ask him what I should get each time and he helps me with my indecisiveness. I'm especially fond of the raspberry mousses. It is light and sweet but not overbearing, a perfect summer dessert. I also am a fan of the french macarons, some people can really mess it up but not here. I've also tried their quiche and they were decent, not too dry. The atmosphere and store is pretty simple, almost too simple. It could use a little sprucing up but it hasn't stopped me from hanging out there to enjoy my desserts. My only complaint would be that they run out quickly so my options are sometimes limited despite coming way before closing time. read more

Sweets include custardy pain au raisin, luscious macaroons, and tender eclairs. He has a buttery Quiche Lorraine, as well as fresh baguettes every Wednesday and Satuday. The reviewers who talk about the owner's rudeness are right: he isn't always rude, but he can be very rude. He's nicer if you speak French--but from a previous review it looks like he doesn't like small talk about his personal life. (He's Tahitian, and Tahiti is a French territory. I assume that he has lived in France at some point.) The shop has the strangest hours for a bakery: 11-6? Can't go before work and it's difficult to get there after work. The shelves are often empty and the baguettes are, unfortunately, not always fresh, though the proprietor will tell you if they are not. On the day they are baked, they are good, not great. The pastries are generally good, not great, but the selection is sparse. The lunch quiches are pretty good, but I can seldom get there during the lunch hour. I would be here all the time if the hours were more convenient and the bread were always fresh and better. read more

Ever have one of those days were you just crave for something ..... FRENCH!! Well, you might not believe this but this place is LEGIT!! From the outside it really doesn't look like anything special but once you go inside you know that you are about to eat something special. Every time I stop by for some quick craving cruncher I am met by the same friendly owner. He has the strongest french accent and really makes you feel like you are in France. One thing to watch out for is that he is always trying to get you to buy more. But because he is so friendly and nice it sometimes hard to say no to one more strawberry tart. The mille-feuille (napoleon) was soggy, and the flan (their take on creme caramel?) was curdled. I forced both of them down because I hate to waste food. The tarts were also a tad burnt, and the shells were rock hard. The baguettes were not very crusty or authentic - essentially white bread shaped into baguette-like tubes. The flavors were nothing notable, and most of the pastries lacked the proper amount of butter and flakiness. The owners are very friendly, and I would be thrilled to see a full-fledged patisserie in this area, but I am a little bummed that I spent $20 on a bunch of incredibly mediocre pastries. The Napoleon was delicious-- light, crunchy, buttery layers with custard goodness, the cigar also had a really nice pastry wrapping up a nice light chocolate custard..the lemon tart and eclairs were tasty as well. I lived in Mons, Belgium for three years and visited dozens of French and Belgian patisseries. Eliane French Bakery is better than most I visited and compares favorably with some of the best. The buche de noel is the highlight of any special Christmas dinner and as goods as I've had anywhere in Europe. All of their pastries are excellent with my favorite being the almond and chocolate croissants, Paris-Brest, and chocolate cigars.
