    Fried pickles.

First and foremost, Erica was excellent. The atmosphere was impeccable. I had the fried pickles and they were on point. I also had the shrimp and catfish and was also delightful. The service was the thoughtful and respectful.

Fried catfish in cornmeal batter. Sides are fried okra, french fries, and red beans and rice. Sweet tea was just right.

Excellent comfort food, great service, and the menu has a good variety. I came to this place twice for the food and service. The food is delicious and the portions are fair for the price you pay. The waiter I had on the first visit was a young man with excellent manners. Im not from the area and was impressed by so many young adults saying Ma'am and Sir often. I wish most people had these manners. I returned the next day and got the fried catfish that came with three sides plus a roll and cornbread. It was yummy! Service is fast and ambience is friendly. I highly recommend this place.

Pros Great food and service Prices are really a good deal Central location Cons Does not honor Yelp coupon they have It was a little warm inside, but this has been a hot summer

    Blackened Talipia

Just popped in while passing through. Great food and service! I had the grilled chicken with broccoli and corn. The chicken was well seasoned and cooked to perfection over a bed of rice. My wife had the blackened talipia with corn and yams. My son had the chicken strips and said, " Dad the chicken strips taste so different.... You can tell they aren't frozen!" What a gem of a restaurant in a small town!

Love the dining room and the staff. Food was mediocre and the flies while we were eating got annoying.

Service slow. No bread. Lettuce on salad was yellow and wilted. Baked potato was dry. Flies buzzing around my head.

The restaurant is set in a building that, if I was guessing, was built about 100 years ago, based on its design. Be sure to check out the ceiling fans in the middle of the restaurant that are driven by two belts and a single motor! We ordered the Daily Special (pork loin w/ gravy, cornbread dressing, green beans, candied carrots, a yeast roll, and peach cobbler), one of the featured dishes of the day (2 Natchitoches meat pies, dirty rice, a cup of crawfish etouffee, 2 hush puppies, and peach cobbler), coconut shrimp with pina colada sauce and fries, and a grilled cheese sandwich and fries. Everything was amazing! The best peach cobbler I can remember, and the main dishes were all delicious. The service was excellent, and everyone was friendly. Apparently, the restaurant has three generations of family working there. By the time we left, they were beginning to get a crowd - we were no longer the only customers there. I'll definitely be going back!

I finally made it out to Blue Duck Kitchen & Bar and honestly, it exceeded every expectation I had…read more This isn't just another local restaurant -- it's the kind of place that makes you genuinely look forward to going out to eat. Right from the start, the atmosphere hit the perfect balance: lively and inviting but not overwhelming. Whether you're heading there for a casual dinner, drinks with friends, or a date night, it feels comfortable and relaxed without ever feeling generic. The décor and layout are thoughtful -- not flashy, but definitely memorable. The menu? Outstanding. Every dish I tried was clearly prepared with real skill, not just thrown together. The flavors were bold without being heavy, fresh without being confusing, and absolutely balanced. I started with an appetizer that was creative and flavorful, and each course that followed kept building on that good first impression. Portions were generous, too -- plenty of food without feeling like you're overstuffed. What really sold me was how every plate tasted intentional. You can tell the kitchen cares about the details -- the way flavors layered, the way textures played off each other, and even how each dish looked when it was served. That kind of consistency is rare, even at places that think they're fine dining. Service was equally impressive. Our server wasn't just friendly, they were attentive without hovering, knew the menu well, and offered recommendations that genuinely improved our meal. It's always nice when staff can talk about food like they actually enjoy it themselves -- it makes the whole experience feel a lot more personal. I left feeling completely satisfied -- not just because the food was great, but because the entire evening felt thoughtful from start to finish. If you want a place in Livingston that combines quality food, a great vibe, and service that actually elevates the experience, Blue Duck Kitchen & Bar is absolutely worth your time. Five stars well earned -- I'll definitely be returning.
