Wow! My husband said this was the best clam chowder he has had in a long, long time! He does not hand out compliments like that! I had the veggie linguine and it was AMAZING! This Beautiful restaurant is LARGE and at the end of the River Walk. Nestled at the end of S. Water street, this popular venue has a large indoor bar and a LOT of seating. Indoor and outdoor. They don't take reservations, but if you get there early enough (before 430/5p)then you can practically have your run of the place. The outside seating has a covered and Uncovered (w/ umbrella) areas. My only complaint is the limited parking. If busy, you will have to park up the street and walk up the street. This a great place for small, large groups and lunch outside makes for a great date. read more

My fiancé now went into Elijah's on 3/29/2024 . We ordered our food and everything was OK. The server took about 10 minutes to get to the table and then it took probably about seven minutes or more to bring our drinks. We ordered our food and everything was going well then as I was eating one of my fried oysters, I bit down on something hard. I thought it was the edge of the oyster, but then I discovered it was a piece of metal , maybe from a fryer basket. I told the server. Then the server tried to take the plate from me. I told her no I'll keep it because I wanted to show the manager the piece of metal in my food for myself. Then it took another 10 minutes for one of the managers to come out to apologize to me and the manager also tried to take my plate as well . Then one of the other managers came out to talk to me and apologized as well, gives me her card and she walks away. I could see him standing in from a distance where you check in at the service stand, discussing the whole situation debating as to what they're gonna do after waiting another 10 minutes ,she comes back to the table apologizing as she did before. The manager tells me well I'm gonna get the server to come back and all you have to do is pay for the salad and as she tried to explain anything else to me, I looked at her and said I thought we were told the meal was comped. I told the manager lfound a damn piece of metal in my meal. The manager looks at me and says well we will just take care of the meal and rolled her eyes as she walked away not another word was said. The sad thing about is I was having a wonderful experience eating my meal talking to my fiancé. I find metal in my food and then all of a sudden it's a problem, the server, the managers through this whole experience was, taking forever to get back to the table. Honestly, I was upset but about finding the metal in my food, but also very upset that it took him so long to come back to the table and they just left me sitting there waiting like they didn't even wanna deal with the situation. I know from my own experience, waiting tables and dealing with situations. This is not how you treat a paying guest. The most heartbreaking thing was. I was there for a couple of days in remembrance of my son who passed away last year . We came to the beach and remember it of my son . Kure beach is one of the beaches that my son love to come visit when he was alive.So thank you Elijah's restaurant for ruining my experience, at Kure Beach. Also I noticed my tongue was bothering me and sore from the metal that cut a small place on my tongue so I would highly not recommend anybody eating there.They treat the guests horrible . This place is quite good, but not great. Your typical tourist type restaurant. Service was good, but yet again, not great. Food was above average, but again, not great. What makes this place is the view of the river. The location is outstanding, and the inside of the restaurant is very nice. Seating for outside can be difficult without a reservation due to the view. The chef gets an F for changing the long-time southern fav shrimp & grits recipe to a failure Cajun-style one that's overly salty and surprisingly topped with bell pepper and celery. Also, he/she gets an F for the now disappointing baked crab dip, which also used to be the best in town. read more

This place is booming and I would like to try a few more of the dishes on the menu. I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was tasty and I enjoyed it. My understanding is that shrimp and grits is supposed to be spicy. Mine was not at all spicy, but that didn't bother me, the taste was good. The service was good. We visited Wilmington for three nights and checked out Elijah's on the first night. We ate outside with a fabulous view and a really lovely waiter (Peter). I had the crab cakes and the seasonal vegetables included a Brussels sprout slaw. The crab cakes were great, but I was really impressed with the vegetables- so many places phone them in. My partner had the bean salad and salmon and it looked great, but he was probably most pleased with the half priced wine! We rarely do this, but when choosing somewhere to eat the second night, we couldn't come up with a better option than Elijah's again. We were super happy to have Peter as our waiter again. This time I had the Greek salad and salon and my partner had clam chowder and the steak salad. He loved this salad so much we had to really try hard not to come back again on the third day. The wine and beer selection was great, plus we noticed the staff cheerfully accommodating requests for parties to move tables as the sun shifted. I will absolutely dine here again on my next trip to Wilmington. read more

If you love having cocktails and dining by the water then Elijah's is the place for you. I came here with a friend and we sat outside on the patio to enjoy the sunshine. The menu definitely has a "beachy" feel to it. We started with the calamari and the crab stuffed mushrooms. The calamari was just ok. I probably should have gone with the the crab dip. The crab stuffed mushrooms on the other hand were delicious. My friend had the ahi tuna sandwich and was not disappointed. I had the oyster po boy. I love fried oysters so my tummy was happy. The menu has a lot of options so I'll come back to see what else catches my fancy. read more

A Wilmington staple. I've been coming here for years and try and make a stop at Elijah's a yearly tradition. Popped in here on a rainy Friday for lunch. Sat at the bar and ordered a glass of rosé and the crab cake sandwich with fries. Service was friendly from the staff, to the manager who checked in on me as well. Was a cozy spot to wait out the rain while still getting a view of the river walk and water. Do yourself a favor and stop by on a Sunny (or rainy) day and enjoy this lovely spot! read more

Girls luncheon out in early December 2022. The place was pretty empty with the exception of the outside tables. It was a beautiful day. We shared their crab dip, which was delicious and creamy. The toasted garlic bread was perfect with the dip. We could have had more. The portion is good for two people, not five. I had their shrimp salad, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a mayo based but not heavy. The portion of shrimp was perfect for lunch, about 10-12 of them. And they were fresh. My friends liked their meals. And we had good service by our waitress. She even split the crab dip between all of us on our bills. I still don't like the chairs with the 'lip' on the edge. Very uncomfortable to sit on, a the edge cuts into the back of my legs. read more

I hadn't eaten at Elijah's since the change in owners and revamping but I was craving some of their famous crab dip and took my family to give it a chance. Aside from the crab dip and view, I don't have anything good to share. We ordered 3 appetizers, including crab dip and it was the only one that was really edible. The hush puppies were cooked fine but the butter they include was not good at all. The calamari was really gross- didn't seem cooked all the way through. I had the fish tacos blackened and the fish was super dry. I couldn't even stomach one of them. No one ate their whole plate or even made a decent dent. We didn't complain- it was hot out and our server was on top of refilling drinks, and he obviously didn't cook the food, but if I ever go back- it will only be for the crab dip, which clearly is all that remains of the Elijah's I knew and loved. read more

We drove over an hour just for the prime rib only to find out they changed the menu to only seafood. I was HIGHLY disappointed. My husband wanted the Rockefeller so we did get appetizers and they were good, please bring back the original menu! read more

We have dined here for years and were always pleased with the menu and quality of the food. We were extremely disappinted with our recent visit. Items such as the shrimp, cheese and garlic bread and frozen drinks have been removed from the menu. The crab dip was served with a roll instead of a baguette. We could not eat the clam chowder. Why change a recipe which was retired from the chowder competition? The service and atmosphere were great, but we will not be returning unless the menu and recipes are changed. read more

My friend ordered a burger and he said it was excellent. I wasn't ready to eat anything since I knew we'd be having dinner back at our house rental in a couple of hours so I just sampled his burger and it was excellent. The service and ambiance was excellent. It was a beautiful day on the Riverwalk and we were up for a drink. The menu looked good, the restaurant was clean and in a great location. We did sit at the bar. And yes, this spot was used to film in Dawsons Creek as Paceys restaurant which was obvious when you walked in if you watched the series. I can't really say too much about there food since I didn't order anything but the location experience alone was excellent on a late afternoon Thursday. As we were leaving there were a lot more patrons seated and being served out doors on the Riverwalk and they seemed pleased. I really liked the location myself and I'd return when I visit Wilmington again. read more

The French fries that came with it would have been better had they been fried without any batter or whatever the outside was. I visited on Sunday May 19. I am a native Wilmingtonian and have supported this establishment since its opening. Missing from the menu were the shrimp toast, olive bread, crab stuffed mushrooms, stuffed flounder, blackened prime rib sandwich, and now beer battering the seafood platter? We tried the smoked fish dip, which was too salty. I had the mixed green salad with added shrimp. The shrimp were rubbery, tasteless frozen shrimp. Also the change in decor was startling. The beautiful dark wood elements have been painted orange. Yikes! The food and service was average, but the menu and changes to the restaurant were not what I have come to expect. I understand change and marketing, but the changes are not reflective of what Elijah's has represented for our area and from true low country southern cuisine. This felt like a chain restaurant experience. Sad to say it's off our recommended list. read more

I have been coming to Elijah's for 30+ years. I always get the shrimp bread. Just recently we made the two hour trip so that I could have my most favorite thing in the world and found out that shrimp bread is no longer on the menu. Was told that after 40 years the menu had been changed and the restaurant renamed. Was so disappointed. We ate there anyway and the food was good, but it just didn't seem to be the same. I am hoping that the shrimp bread can get itself back on their menu. read more

Jeremy - bartender - awesome -give this guy a raise and some help on a sunday night.....he was THE guy holding everything together and was awesome!!! we didn't have a reservation and are locals and thought we wouldn't need a reservation on a sunday night but it looked like they were short on staff... and we REALLY wanted the crab dip and a great meal - so we sat at the bar....as did another 4-5 groups and the bartender (i am almost positive his name was Jeremy but my sister is saying it's Joshua - we have a picture so his manager will give him a bonus!. We loved the setting of Elijah's- perfect views of the Cape Fear River and Memorial Bridge. We dined late, so we enjoyed the most beautiful sunset. This is premiere waterfront dining. It was not a busy day in the area, but we had a good 30 minute wait. The restaurant was empty and service slow. The hostess was working the front door and the patio door- poor girl was running around like crazy! Our server Michael K, was great. I got the feeling he had more tables than normal, as he seemed busy too. However, we had wonderful service and he was very friendly. He didn't even judge my husband for devouring his Frose drink in minutes. :wink: We started with the Olive and cheese bread (half order) and it was amazing. I love that salty, cheesy, warm, crusty combination and this did not disappoint. They used black and green olives, pimientos, garlic butter and Monterey Jack cheese on toasted French Bread. My husband ordered the OB special - fish cakes (maybe catfish?) with a lime aioli, rice pilaf, and string veggies. It was beautiful and fresh. I don't know why, in a famous historical seafood restaurant I ordered the most boring thing you could? However, it was a very good Chicken Caesar Salad. Fresh, crisp,a tangy Caesar and a delicious juicy grilled chicken. It was exactly what I wanted. Elijah's isn't cheap- our bill before tip was around $70 (the OB special was $30) but on the real.... This place was a 10/10 for food, service, AND ambiance. They had the BEST scallops I've ever had in my life. It was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. I would die for the sauce in the pasta primavera and the shrimp were huge. The raw oysters were also very good and reasonably priced. Our server checked on us often but not annoyingly so and was very sweet. She knew the menu and was prepared for our questions. We sat outside on the covered/heated patio since it was rainy and cold out. The lights were pretty and the view of the water was cool. The bar and decor also had a modern but beachy feel.
