Let me start by saying, the food tasted good. The ambiance, (we sat out by the river) was gorgeous! The service was not the best. We sat down and it took some time to receive water, but nothing outrageous. We ordered our drinks and food (the broiled flounder platter and the clam bucket) and took so long to get our drinks. When our food came, it looked good! The waiter commented that they made an oyster bucket and not clams, so they had to remake it, which was why it took so long. He apologized for the wait. As we started in to the clam bucket, I soon realized that there was no andouille sausage and a bunch of oysters mixed in. There were supposed to be a dozen clams, but there wasn't- not a huge deal, but when there was no sausage and we had to wait... it was odd. I'm not usually an oyster eater, but since they were in there I decided to try them. They were good! But- more than half of the clams and all but one of the oysters were closed. I was only offered a shucking knife. Huh? I was also given no plate for shells, no small fork to get to the clams. Just odd. What I assumed to be the manager checked on us and I shared my concerns, so he sent out more clams for us. No offer of more drinks or did we need anything else, just "you guys good?". No comp to the bill, no discount. Nobody apologized that it was a poor experience. Disappointed because it came highly recommended. read more

Our hotel staff recommended this restaurant. I really wanted a nice and fresh fish sandwich. It was just a short walk down the Riverwalk. We went during lunchtime. The restaurant was nice and quiet.. the waiter was really friendly and gave great suggestions. The views from the restaurant was amazing since the restaurant is right on the Riverwalk, you have a nice view of the Cape Fear River. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was so good! It was nice and crispy on the outside and really flaky on the inside. My husband got the calamari. He said that it was really good. I will definitely go back to Elijah's the next time that I am in Wilmington. It was a great dining experience. read more

Stopped from our Riverwalk to enjoy a beer in this rather muggy day. Since it's our last night in Wilmington, we decided to eat an early dinner. We started with a nice draft and the baked crab dip. To me the horseradish is a unique ingredient that sounds odd but makes this an excellent dip. Coupled with the garlic bread it is a rather decadent starter. Since we are leaving the coast, we also enjoyed an order of local oysters? Fresh and tasty. I liked the "pico de gallo" and the habanero mango sauce. That made for a new way to enjoy the oysters. And finally, I enjoyed the Cajun shrimp tacos. The shrimp were seasoned and prepared to absolute perfection. Our server Damani was very nice, cheery and attentive. She did a great job and we appreciated that. I was pleasantly surprised with this place. I thought it was more touristy and would be ok at best. But it was one of the better lunches I've had in the past month of traveling up the southeast Atlantic coast. read more

Went 2 times in 2 days had issues both days. After $350 spent for 2 people. I would expect better service on day 1 and false advertising on day 2. Server Chelsea was not great on day 1 and While the manager made up for it, she certainly didn't make it easy on day 2. This place is only successful because of the location. Hard pass for the $$. Not so arguably our favorite of all spots during our trip to Wilmington. Ordered way too many appetizers/food but the setting, taste, & company was all more than worth it. You're going to see twenty high-end restaurants before you see this one, and I recommend you look the other way and stop here first. Oysters to die for, a setting you have to be in, and the service.... Is incredible. Shout out to the most incredible server, Liam, for making the experience all that & more! This place is the place to go if you're looking for a place to eat on the water. There was a ton of seating outside and it was a super nice day so it was a great ambiance! Food was pretty decent but it wasn't the best that I had on the trip to the beach so I would say it was a mid-level range. The drinks were pretty good and the service was fair. Their burger is next level amazing with the pimento cheese, but be ready to get messy... it will drip, so lean over the plate. I started by cutting mine in half. At sunset you'll have sun glaring at you as it reflect off the water, so bring sunglasses. And in the winter be ready for the temperature to quickly drop after sunset. The view is amazing, watching the sun fall behind the bridge, and light up the sky in a beautiful cascade of colors. I love the casual vibe of this place, laid back with a long outdoor patio seating. Our waiter Victor was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu, we went two of his recommendations, 1 doz oyster flight and the smoked fish dip. The dip is served cold so it was perfect for the beautiful day, it was also nice and light so perfect as an appetizer. Oysters were super fresh! We also ordered the crab cake sandwich, also delicious. It was a big sandwich but not heavy, the crab cake itself was melting in your mouth, my husband dubbed it "the best crab cake he's ever had". Perfect amount of tartar sauce, for a nice zing but not over powering. For the platter I got oyster, fish, and double order of oysters (wanted scallops but they ran out). After about 20 minutes the food arrived. The fried fish had a good batter, was seasoned and crispy. The fried shrimp and fried oysters were also good. The fresh oyster were served with lemon, cocktail sauce with horseradish. The fresh oysters were a good size and had a medium briny taste to it. I have been to Elijah's twice within the last two weeks. The food and service were much better than what I received at Annie's. The boiled shrimp was outstanding. The crab dip was the best I have ever had. The shrimp and oysters were so fresh and fried perfectly. The staff was very helpful and checked frequently on your needs. Ordered an app that came at the same time as our meal ( and not before like apps are supposed to), and we didn't eat because our meal was there so of course we ate that. We walked by this place on the River Walk last night and the outside seating area was super appealing with all the lights and people. We decided to go eat there today and the inside is clean and the staff was welcoming. We sat inside near the windows so we could enjoy the view and the cool air. Unfortunately, her "section" was right next to the speakers and the musician. However, the manager understood and allowed Lindsay to move us to the other side-making it much harder for her. We have been coming to Elijah's now for 6 years and what great meals we've enjoyed along with the superb ambience... We've been loyal patrons all of these years until now. It's all changed.. no shrimp bread.. no olive bread... no stuffed shrimp.. no fish and chips .. no spoon cake.. We were so disappointed once we looked the menu but since I had already ordered a glass of wine, we decided to give it a go. We ordered the only thing familiar still.. Baked Crab Dip. We couldn't believe our eyes when they brought to us! It changed from a beautifully presented baked crab dip with delicious toasts to a slapped in a bowl pile of yuck with a pull apart bread. On a positive note.. we ordered a cup of clam chowder which was good. I couldn't leave without saying something so we spoke with the manager and expressed our disappointment in the new menu and the new "vibe" So, for a $60 tab for crab appetizer with extra bread, cup of soup, and 2 drinks we walked away very sad. We've always bragged to everyone about Elijah's and we have always brought our company here and had it been today, we would have been embarrassed. But it was my husband's birthday today and we were really looking forward to a great meal and what was excitement turned into great disappointment real fast. We've always had our celebrations here so we are down that we lost our comfort place, our "go to" place with really great food and a really great view! Second time eating here in as many years. Had the crab dip, blackened citrus mahi tacos and a cucumber coconut refresher to drink. It was the perfect meal for warm weather! Had a great experience here on Friday night. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I came here with my dog. The waitress was great and I ordered him chicken a side of chicken and he ate it. I came back tonight (Saturday) and ordered chicken for the dog again (and food/drink for myself) and it was put in with no problem. I fed him a couple pieces by hand and the older waitress came over yelling at me that I couldn't feed him. I said "are you kidding" and she raised her voice saying "no you absolutely cannot feed him", "you cannot do that", where I explained that I did the same thing yesterday with no issue. She said it was health department thing. The tone for someone in hospitality was unacceptable. I totally understand that, I've worked in restaurants for 10+ years but I have never had this issue and if she had said it politely it would have been a different story. Again, if it's a violation that's fine but I wasn't aware and none of my personal employers have told me this. She yelled at me to the point that the tables around me were looking around, making faces at me like "yikes" and staring at me making it awkward. My waitress, Nikki, was excellent, remembered my dog from the previous night and immediately came over with a box and apologized. I am visiting Wilmington by myself with my dog and was anxious about going to dinners alone. This experience heightened my anxiety. If you bring your pet, it should be a good experience but be wary if you plan to give your dog a snack. read more
