Eli's Night Shift is a unique spot in upper east side Manhattan. This shop is a cafe/brunch/lunch shop during the daytime and a lively bar during the nighttime. With its spacious frontage and nice deck, the store gives its guests a good view of the lively atmosphere of upper east side manhattan while keeping the cold draft from seeping through the store in winter. Every square foot of space is utilized in this unique shop. You have specialty soups, salads, sandwiches and grilled vegetables in one sections and cold cut sandwiches in another. There are numerous House made goods such as unique Russian Coffee Cakes, house made Chips and numerous pastries as well as coffee and a generous tea selection. While a little pricy, the numerous seating spaces and options as well as the lively atmosphere makes this place a worthwhile visit. read more

Wife was in the mood for drinks after work and I have passed Eli's numerous times so figured let's give it a try. Friday night 6pm we mostly had our choice of seating :) by 8pm it was mostly full. They start each table with a free basket of all you can eat potato chips. Yummy, especially when you first enter and you're thirsty and hungry, but they are a bit too oily (even thou I ate many ). We ordered 2 cosmos which were made excellent with a lemon zest. We also ordered a BLT, not on menu, which was delicious as well ! Nice atmosphere, on point service, along with great drinks and food. Would give 5 stars but the prices are kind of steep ($14 drinks, $15 BLT, $20 bacon cheese burger, etc). read more

Had a fantastic breakfast here on Saturday morning. I had the breakfast sandwich which was composed of seasoned eggs, cheese on a brioche bun. The eggs were freshly and expertly cooked into something like an omelette and had salt and pepper which added great flavor. I also had an orange juice and coffee. They also had a small section of other breakfast items: fruits, yogurt and mini lox bagels, so I'll have to come back to try those items. read more

Nightshift is casual dining for those who are not casual. There are baskets of kettle chips on each table, blackboards with the beers on tap, windows flung wide open in the summer and communal seating. There is no hostess or official waiters, and yet there is civilized order in here. Most on the menu are finger foods. Loved the nachos, porchetta sliders, and onion rings. The flatbread wasn't as good as the free kettle chips. read more

Visited Eli's Night Shift a few weeks ago for dinner with a few friends. We actually had plans to go to another restaurant in the area, but the wait was too long. We stumbled upon Eli's and it was so late/we've heard great things so we decided to try it out. The restaurant has an interesting set up. It has all high top tables with bar stools (no backs), which was a bit uncomfortable. I believe in the summer it would be a nicer atmosphere. We started off with some drinks and appetizers. I was pleasantly surprised that they had orange wine on the menu. I'm a huge fan of orange wine and it's quite difficult to find! It was delicious. We also had an order of pigs in a blanket, which were good. For our dinner we all had burgers. The burgers were cooked nicely and pretty good! This may sound strange, but my biggest pet peeve of any restaurant is the ketchup they have. This has become a large issue in NYC as more trendy restaurants are carrying the organic sir fancy ketchup, which tastes AWFUL! I asked if they had Heinz and unfortunately they didn't. This really could ruin a meal. I know it may sound ridiculous, but it tastes totally different. Overall the experience was ok, but it was a tad pricey for what it was! read more

This is my favorite place to go get dinner and drinks with friends after work. It has a tasteful casual atmosphere with high top communal tables with bar stools. You are automatically greeted with delicious chips. The drinks are all hand-crafted and interesting-- you can't go wrong. They have specials including oysters-- which are very well done. My only critique (which is really more of a caution) is that most of the chairs are stools, so sometimes sitting without a back to my chair is tiring after a 12 hour work day. Another great thing about this place is that during the day it's also a great spot to get a coffee and pastry. read more

Open to 11 pm, Eli's Night Shift is a rare casual cozy bar with good food in the UES's otherwise dead nighttime landscape. They provide no tea or coffee at night, but the cocktail menu has a hot drink ("Winter Is Coming,") pictured, which is a gorgeous rendition of a hot toddy with your choice of bourbon, applejack, or spiced rum. With a slice of the smallish chocolate mousse cake, it was the perfect refreshment after a concert. read more

The drinks here are great but I wasn't very fond of the food. They have a good variety of beers on tap as well as a nice selection of cocktails. I went off the menu and ordered a few of my favorites and they were all executed very well. No juices out of the can here, everything is fresh pressed. Drinks at 13 bucks a pop are modestly priced compared to some of the other big guns in town. I would pay them a visit if you're in the area. read more

Disgusting. There is no soap in the bathroom - not even a container holding remnants of soap. How can you make food here and serve patrons when there is no soap to wash your hands when you go to the bathroom? Ughhhhh who is touching my food? Last I checked, it's the law. read more

Came back ti the city late and was happy to find this new little spot on the corner. Eli's Night Shift is open late, have great vibe and it's really cool place. They have wide local beer selection. Next time we will try some. We wanted to get something light and we wanted it quick. Perfect spot for that. We got Oysters of the day - cheap and delicious! Kale caeser salad with chicken was good - chicken was crispy and soft and kale was very fresh and tasteful. Parm crisps were unexpected but unbelievable:) We also tried avocado toasts - I love avocado. It was exactly what i wanted to have that night. One of my favorite spots on the Upper East Side! Date night, group outing, parents in town... been coming here for several years. The food is delicious, their beer is always rotating and they have great options. Love their cocktails as well! The chicken sandwich is out of this world and always our go to dinner. They were incredibly attentive and kept my water full which was key on one of the first hot summer nights of the year. You're going to enjoy it. Eli's Night Shift is probably one of the top things I love about coming to visit family in NYC (after family, of course). This bar, while understated, feels like a solid neighborhood watering hole. While the prices are a bit higher than what you might find at a typical happy hour, you're paying for high-quality alcohol and excellent service. Both Nathan and Chris do a good job of tending to customers, engaging in conversation (about booze or otherwise), and making excellent drinks. The baskets of complimentary potato chips are dangerously delicious. During the day, this is a fine grab-and-go spot for sandwiches, soups, etc but a bit pricey depending on the meal you get. It works and it usually looks busy, so that's a good sign, but the real star of this establishment is definitely the eponymous Night Shift. It's a great addition to the UES. read more

I stopped by here last week with two friends. We all wish we had gone somewhere else. Like a real bar, instead of this place. The drinks were terrible. Weak with very little alcohol. They pour the alcohol very very light! And so overpriced. And they have the nerve to charge $10 for an order of onion rings? I think not. This restaurant has a great, intimate environment! I met some girlfriends for an evening drink last night and had a great time. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Last I was there, and my LAST time there, one of the very self involved waiters (where do they get these losers) was neurotically picking and biting on his finger. Very appetizing to watch. Recently discovered Eli's Night Shift and it's awesome. The place is cool and feels like it belongs much further downtown. I'm really happy to have a place like this on the UES. There's a constantly rotating draft list as well as cans/bottles focused primarily on local breweries. The cocktails are artfully crafted and delicious without being over the top. All of the bartenders are very knowledgeable and can tell you about each beer and recommend what beers you might like. The food is a solid take on standard bar food but could use a bit more variety and perhaps a few healthier options, but then again, that's not what this place is about. Definitely, recommend for those who appreciate a good beer and food in a relaxed, cool atmosphere. read more

The bartenders here seem to be prejudiced against 'certain' customers. As soon as I sat down by the bar, one of the bartenders looked at me and walked away. Did not even say, "hi, I'll be with you in a minute," etc. After about 5 minutes, he comes over to me and gives me a 'what do you want?' kind of stare. I ask him if I could see the menu and he proceeds to slap it on the table and walk away. I left immediately. He made me feel very uncomfortable. There are too many places in the UES. A very cool place to grab a craft beer or a bespoke cocktail. Just remember where you're at though, as the prices reflect its locale. Beers range from $8-$12 which is very steep, with cocktails being $14 all around. The bartender the night I went was extremely friendly which was a pleasant shock once again given the locale. That evening they were doing a photoshoot for their website which was obtrusive, but not too big a deal. A big plus that offsets the steep drink prices are the fresh house made potato chips that are free!!! They are yummy!!! They have a short list of small plates, but I was just there to drink. I saw a few being brought out and they looked good. I don't if I would come back simply because it's so expensive, but if you have the budget this is a charming spot and one that would be great for a date night. read more
