I've been coming for about 4 years now and they're still my favorite barbershop even though I don't live in UES anymore. All the barbers are very talented and Sam the owner is a great guy. I always get my haircut with Miho, not sure if it's because she's Japanese, but I think a lot of barbers have a hard time cutting Asian hair. She's always consistent and can make any adjustments you need. I can't speak highly enough of her. It's easy to schedule an appointment as well if you need. read more

Very impressed! I've been struggling to find a good place for a haircut in the Upper Eastside (especially one that can cut asian hair) for quite some time. Although this was my first time here, I'll definitely be back! I called ahead of time to see if they had availability around 2pm on a Friday. The guy assured me no problem and to come on in. When I got there, two ladies were working. Both were very nice and one took my temperature prior to me sitting down. After explaining my cut and showing a picture for reference, one of the ladies named Meijo (sorry if I butchered the name) started promptly. She took her time, DIDNT rush me, and made small talk...and not that intense draining small talk, just friendly chitchat which I appreciated. $30 cut well worth it! read more

There's great value in availability. It was my 2nd time in a row strolling into my old barber shop on the weekend and of course there's 4 people ahead of me with the only guy that does a good job and doesn't completely destroy my hair. I knew I couldn't deal with these long waits again, and I found elite barber shop only a few blocks from my house. I strolled in at 4 on Sunday and it's like they were waiting for me-- no customers were there. Miho picked me up. She did a great job and knows how to cut straight, Asian hair. I decided to try this barber shop based on the reviews I have read here on Yelp. Price is $16 for a cut and $20 for a cut, wash & style. Sam cut my hair. Based on the reviews, Sam is the owner of the barber shop. He was very meticulous in cutting my hair. He cut exactly what I wanted and advised me on a few key areas. He didn't charge me for my hair wash because he felt my hair wash experience was not good due to the water not being warm enough. It was beyond his control for the water's temperature from his building's boiler. Also, he was offering free beer for a limited time. Free booze and a great haircut? What's not to like about this place? Nevertheless, my first time being here was great! I highly recommend coming here for your haircut. read more

Have no courage to own up mistake. No apology. You dont expect too much walking into this shop. Today, I called them and made an appointment for 12:30 slot. I arrived on time. Then two haircutters--i wont refer to them as barbers out of my respect to others in that profession--briefly mixed few comments about me, albeit they spared nothing for me. "Untalked" there, i had to figure I was doubled-booked while dumping my weekend time as a strange visitor. They left me stocked in the corner waiting area until I figured someone who arrived after me was seated by them for haircut. Still no one bothered to talk to me. Never really mind about double booking. My hair could wait. But I forced myself to leave because to them, I was invisible. Even after they saw the double booking, none of them explained--not to mention apology. Neither they tried to remedy the situation except just looking at me, suggesting I figure the thing myself. Better thing to do as grown up: own up the mistake, face it, and do something about it--just dont make anyone feel like their feelings is invisible. One thing you should know about me...I am a WOMAN. Sam (the owner) cut my hair last Saturday. I asked for a neat trim, nothing fancy, keep it long...etc. He did a great job. I am very happy with my cut. It certainly cut off all the dead ends, looks thicker with more body, and feels healthy. He asked me direct questions about what I wanted to ensure he was going to do the job how I wanted, and was very friendly and enjoyable to talk to during the cut. I am so pleased with this place. This place now has a regular. As a female, I have heard horror stories of poor hair cuts in the city that has as many hair salons as there are cabs ( I am alluding that there are a lot of cabs in the city, and yes I understand that at 1am in the Village this is not the case, but well, find me a salon open at that time 1am and I will change the metaphor to rats or something gross) But this place did a great job! I have slightly curly hair and when it is long (and with this damn winter) there are split ends galore. They put on music I like to listen to and because it was holiday season gave me a beer for my troubles. He gave me a great and AFFORDABLE hair cut. (seriously f*&% those places that charge $60 for a trim) A wash, a cut, and a nice straightening with the blow dryer. This Barber shop was really the first one I've ever been to before. I wanted to get coiffed for a job interview I had at 6. I called earlier and asked to see if I needed to make an appointment and he said to just come on in. When I got there to my surprise Heat was playing on the big screen television. There were a few guys in there, talking about how awesome the movie Heat is. I really was freaking loving it. Then he offered me a drink which I happily accepted. The drink? A cold bottle of Stella. Thank you very much my barber. That loosened me up fine. So I once made a personal decision not to ever spend more than $30 on a haircut. I was living in the upper w side and I went to two different places and they butchered my hair. Serves me right for thinking I can spend $20 on quality. Well, going to this barber shop proved me dead wrong. The entire cut was like $22 and it was actually a good time. I remember while we were all in there, this woman with an interesting dog stopped past to say hello to the barber. The dog I later found out was Rhode -official name is a Rhodesian Ridgeback The dog's stripe like a skunk down the middle of his back and it's going against the grain. It's really odd. I pet the dog and everyone was clamoring and I said "I'd like to get a picture of him." and the woman was quick to snap and say no at me. "Ok..." I said, trying not to make a big deal about it. Then when she left one of the guys said "No pictures of my dog." and every one busted out laughing and we all took some joking around about that. I may go back there just for random shaves because it's really a good time there. I had a really great experience there. my first haircut in the city. Let me say, Peter is the $#!T! He cuts your hair EXACTLY how you want it. Now, I come from LA, I asked for SKIN or double zero. He cracked a joke saying he could take off my skin as well if I wanted. He gets the cut I wanted then throws in a suggestion. "Hey, you want to do something else to your hair?" WHY NOT!? I'm in NYC! He hooks me up with a dopeass cut and then cuts a line in my hair. DOPE. I never had anything like that before. The basics: A cloudy afternoon on the UES, Godfather compilation playing on AMC, waiting patiently to get a haircut from a place a mere blocks from my cousin's where I'm staying which also happens to have some great reviews.. I'm just looking for a barber, people, I'm pretty simple (and spoiled -- at home, I have a favorite place where they treat us very well -- massage?). Exceeded all expectations. One of the best haircuts I've had in a while, and that's coming from someone who doesn't really give much thought to haircuts, other than I'd like them to be inexpensive and straightforward. This was a great barbershop, reminiscent of the ones I went to in Hong Kong, or middle-of-nowhere Turkey, or Cairo.. transported to another world. Although there was a woman there with her husband and son, both getting haircuts, it still felt like a dude place. I was expecting foam and straight-edge razor shaves (I'll be they DO do those, though, and he did whip out that straight edge to get the back of my neck). Highly recommended. I can't say anything bad about this place. Great atmosphere and the barbers are super friendly. Every time I walk in I feel like I'm family. I have pretty middle of the road, white guy hair, but I am still kind of particular about my haircut. These guys nail it every time. Consistently good haircuts. Friendly, attentive staff. At the end of each haircut, they take out the straight razor and lather to neaten up sideburns, neck hair. It's little details like that, that keep me coming back.
