Tito gave me a fantastic cut and became my go-to barber until COVID struck; sadly, he passed late in 2020. I recently made an appointment with Willy and he gave me a similarly great haircut and is a kind and intelligent guy to have a conversation with. Solid cheap haircut. However, I judge my barbers according to 1 criteria. Can they, after shortening the length of all my hairs, shape the hair into a way that would never match what I'm capable of. I want to leave my barber thinking "I will never look this way again". After I got my haircut here, he combed my hair in a standard, boring part with no texture. I argued with the barber that this was not, in fact, the way I wanted to style my hair. He said "trust me, it looks good". Other than that, the experience was good. The barber took great care in lining up my hair before ever cutting anything. read more

Great experience. I've been getting my haircut at Aveda for the past many months and lately I just have a hard time justifying the cost for my typical plain-jain hair cut. willy's is fantastic. I've moved to central NJ since I first started going to Willy's, and wait until I'm in the city to get my haircut simply because Willy's is that great. So many barbers charge ~$30 for a crap 10 minute haircut: Some bro will take out clippers, put on a guard and haphazardly sheer off a bunch of hair while watching Spike tv or bragging to his buddy about the last girl he banged. For the same price, the guys at willy's diligently cut your hair down using scissors, avoiding the "ridge" you can get from crappy barbers where they switched from clippers to scissors. On top of that, the guys at Willy's are great. They're not a chore to talk to like some barbers, and they're always friendly and accommodating. They even once gave me a beer to drink while I got my hair cut! read more

A good barber is hard to find. This place is legit. Willy and Tito (the two main barbers) know what they're doing and will listen to what you want them to do. They are really friendly guys too. I pretty much always want the same cut and I have had a good experience there every time for the past three years. I lived on the Upper East side near Willy's when I first moved to NYC three years ago. Since then I've been living in SoHo and the West Village. I tried getting a haircut over near Astor Place and also tried a spot in SoHo and I realized that Willy's was such a better quality cut (and more reasonably priced) so every other month I take time out of my weekend to trek back up to the Upper East Side to get my haircut at a place that I know will not disappoint. I just moved to the upper east side from Washington DC to begin my residency training and was looking for a good place for haircuts for the next 6-7 years. I read a few reviews online and basically took a stab in the dark and chose Willy's ... looks like I lucked out and found my spot on the first try! I was impressed with how meticulous Tito was and how much attention he paid to detail! I don't have very high maintenance hair, but it's not something that just gets the clippers for 5 minutes either. He spent a long time very carefully cutting the whole thing with scissors with an excellent result. I will definitely going back here for my haircuts for as long as I live in the area. I loved my salon in DC, but Willy's offers just as good of a haircut for less than half the price. For $20 and the ability to walk-in anytime, this is an absolute steal! read more

Amazing find! I travelled all the way from Queens to get a haircut at Willy's. It was truly the best haircut of my life. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating just a touch, but I don't think I have enjoyed getting my haircut at any other place. Willy's is an excellent neighborhood barber shop. The reason I say this is that all three barbers (Willy, Tito, and Ivan) are absolute professionals and pay attention to detail and customer requests. Most barber shops have one maybe two talented barbers but at Willy's it doesn't mater who cuts your hair as all three are equally skilled with both scissors and clippers. I've been going to Willy's for my monthly haircut since 2007 and can honestly say that these guys are the best. They're very good at what they do and don't rush through your haircut like some other places I've been to in the city. Obviously you can get a decent haircut at a lot of places, but besides good quality service, the staff at Willy's (Willy, Tito and Ivan) are great guys too. I feel like I'm with friends when I go in there. Price of a haircut is $20, which is definitely reasonable. Their shop is comfortable, clean and relaxed. Willy clearly goes out of his way to make sure his place has an inviting atmosphere. And for what it's worth, I no longer live on the Upper East but I still go to Willy's. When I moved to the UES I tried out several neighborhood barbers based on the recommendation of friends. I was frustrated by the lack of consistency in the haircuts I was getting at these places. So the first time I went to Willy's I was pleased with my cut, but wary of how it would go "next time". My fears were soon proved to be ill founded as I have never been unhappy with a haircut from Willy's. I have now been using them exclusively for about a year. There are several barber's here, including the eponymous Willy. Since my 2nd or 3rd visit, I have always had "Cocky" cut my hair. He does a great job (hence the loyalty) and is also very personable. During my last visit, we each had a tequila shot at the end of my haircut, which added a little something to the visit. They are not the cheapest place in the neighborhood, but definitely worth it. read more

I've been getting my hair cut for 24 years from several barbers and this is the only place that has a barber who has ever gotten it right. His name his Ivan. He is a phenomenal barber and for the price, you really can't beat this place. He'll cater to exactly what you want, execute perfectly, and charge only 20 bucks. I have tremendously thick hair, so if you share the same hair, you know what its like when someone messes it up. The outside of this place is unassuming and you could easily pass it up, but don't! I have gotten a shave and a haircut here and it's probably my favorite barber shop in all of the city. I love that they take such care and time with everyone and the guys are laid back and cool. Inside the place is SPOTLESS, has good music, light. The best part is that it's so inexpensive.
