I spoke with Carolyn the owner, and she declined our business. She stated that she was not paid by another subcontractor of the cable company in the past, and now she wasn't taking any business from any subcontractors of the cable company. Lies and scams and steals. Paid $1200 for materials for a garden wall. He didn't get enough bricks…read moresupposedly and even though he told me he was putting caps on the wall he later changed his story and said we never agreed on that. He wanted to charge me $300 for the rest of the bricks I already purchased which he told me when he started the job were back at his yard, and then charge me an extra $442 for 50 caps. After seeing right through his lies and scams I checked on prices for these materials. With gravel, bricks, and caps the materials should have cost $496. Mike charged me $1200 and then tried charging me $742 more, not to mention he tried charging me over $2000 for what turned out to be 7 hours of actual work. I paid 1/3 of the labor up front, $666 for 7 hours. When I refused to pay the extra $742 he yelled at me and said he wasn't coming back to finish the job, so I told him I wasn't paying any more money for labor. He said he would take me to court but that's not going to happen because he's a thief and a luar and I have all the information to prove it. Stay far away from this company!!@

The sole intent behind my initial review of ATMS was to help customers doing web searches learn…read morethat ATMS is a company they should trust/hire. After learning some things, my overall intent is still to instill confidence in prospective clients for the things I learned they do really well while also sharing some cautionary bits because some things just didn't turn out as expected. Here is what ATMS did for us, totaling just under $34.5k (not including another $20k to other vendors for our big job): - repair/replace rotted subfloor in several areas. Most areas turned out to need the full wall replaced, even the rim board. - reseat toilets, one was sitting about a half an inch higher than the floor. - shorten baseboard radiators. - replace leaking washer/dryer water connector. - sistered several cracking floor joists. - installed kitchen sink + garbage disposal. - capped a gas pipe. - leveled cabinets and installed a counter left by counter installers (the cabinets were wonky AF and ATMS very graciously recognized how they could help and did so... our heros!). - big job: removed 3 walls and installed a beam (the major parts of this were handled by another company but we learned of that other company through ATMS). Patch remaining walls and ceiling (this part was all ATMS). - installed tankless water heater. ATMS is a fun group to be around and they helped ensure our home was safe to live in. If I had to do it over knowing what I know now, I would have at least approached several projects very differently. That said, I would definitely hire them again for anything plumbing related (reseat toilets, cap gas pipes, install a tankless water heater, shorten pipes, etc). They are also great at sistering joists, repairing subfloor, and repairing rotted walls, but to paraphrase Mike, that's not he work they want to do. Now the cautionary bits: - contracts - I have enough life experience by now to know not to sign a contract until I've read every part of it... I even read and question loan docs lol. Alas, I allowed my desire to trust to outweigh my common sense and I signed the contract Mike presented to me before I read it. But before the newly signed contract was taken away, I noticed it contained a list of the same tasks I was paying another company to do, so I asked for a list of tasks ATMS would be doing and their cost breakdowns. Mike indicated he had planned to do this all along and that a big portion of it would be welders. So months later when the project was "done", I asked him for the list and totally thought we would be getting a credit, especially since the other company took care of the welding (and most of the list in the contract). When I asked Mike about these things, he had his associate respond who simply sent a blank email with a copy of the contract attached. Moral of the story here is never go with your heart on contracts, always take a day, read the thing and understand it, and make sure you agree with the contents before you sign it. - budget - Don't tell them your budget, let them give you an estimate based on what sounds fair to them instead. I asked them how much our big job should cost and they initially said $15k, but it the end it was closer to $40k and in the end that balloon felt due to our stated budget than what the work was worth. - supplies - Let ATMS supply what's needed for the job. Any supplies you bring will not be taken into consideration before the final invoice goes out (we bought patching mud, supplied a couple hundred dollars worth of oscillating tool bits, etc). - delays - Our big project was supposed to be completed at the end of January. The main part of it was delayed until the end of February and the finishings were delayed so long that by the end of April, I opted to finish it myself. We also hired ATMS to install a tankless water heater that they installed perfectly... 2 weeks later than planned. - redo work - While finishing the big project myself, I noticed several areas that needed redone: many of the newly sheetrocked walls already had long cracks in them and every electrical box they replaced was at a different height than existing ones (4 outlets were 4.5 inches lower, one outlet was 1 inch higher, and a light switch box is 4 inches higher and has to stay that way because there isn't enough slack in the wires to allow it to be moved back down to its original spot). After sanding down the patching along the cracks, it was clear they just didn't tape those seams. Also for a few seams they did tape, air bubbles trapped under the tape had to be dug out and re-patched. ATMS is a fantastic and talented group of people and I highly recommend them for the things they did really well.
