Obviously it's next to the Queensboro Bridge of course. Their sometimes will be concerts and there's some athletic fields. Convenient to get to from the Queens end of the bridge. It basically is the area north of it. This is along the East River. Across it you can see Manhattan. Between this is Roosevelt Island. This view is the best part. It gets kind of noisy because of the traffic from the bridge. This isn't exactly such a good place for hanging out and chilling. It only takes a few minutes getting to once you get off the bridge. Other than concerts there's not much to see in the park itself. There's athletic fields and a playground.

I've played company softball on this field several times over the past few years. It used to be a…read morereally crappy field (read: torn up grass, weeds, divots, shoddy infield, pretty much dilapidated and forgotten-- conditions not conducive to a softball or baseball game) up until a couple years ago when it was totally renovated.* Now, it's totally, shall I, say beautiful? Well, if you like turf, it's quite nice. So, obviously it's a no cleats field. There is a really nice track that surrounds the one field as well. There are stands for observers, bathrooms (which is a HUGE plus for athletes. Trust me...when ya gotta go, ya gotta go. Also, the bathrooms are clean, AND they have soap and hand towels! I was amazed.**), and locker rooms, but those aren't open to the general public and are solely for students who go to MB high school. The field is impeccably maintained too. I saw one groundskeeper (no, it wasn't Willy) who actually raked the infield when we were finished with our game last night. I guess my only gripe is it'd be great if the infield was covered to protect it from rain. It was slightly muddy at home plate last night. Oh, and since it's almost directly under the Manhattan Bridge, it can get a little noisy, so you might have trouble hearing your infield. So, if you belong to a NYC softball league and are scheduled to play here, you're lucky, because it's one of the nicer turf fields in the city. *This could also be called "Verizon Field" if you want to be all corporate about it. I think they gave the high school money for remodeling. **Maybe if I knew you better I'd tell you of the bathroom horror stories at most softball fields...flies, no doors, port-o-potties, or no bathroom at all, which doesn't help if say, you've drunk too much Gatorade and can't stand and pee like a guy. The Hell Gate, with its big red steel arch, actually looks damn impressive, especially when the light hits it right around sunset. This park just kind of sits there letting the water run by and wether walking by or just sitting down, its an impressive and calming place with the right person on a midsummer night. ​You walk along the concrete promenade by the railing and you see all kinds of people. Couples taking pictures, kids yelling, guys sitting on benches thinking about whatever. It's got these giant green lawns where people just lay around. I hear that there's this massive outdoor pool that gets completely jammed in the summer, but I've never been nor do i intend to. ​It's just grass, trees, a breeze off the water, and trains occasionally rumbling over the bridge high above your head. It kills me how peaceful it can get right under all that heavy machinery. If you have to be around people in Queens, this is probably one of the least depressing places to do it. It really is.

Pony Field is one of three softball/baseball fields on Roosevelt Island and the farthest to get to. Hoof it on foot through the Soviet-era Russia-esque buildings "downtown," or take the bus for .25 cents. I'm not sure about parking around the field, as I think most may be by permit only. This field is pretty decent as far as fields go. It used to be one of the most run down (read: weeds) and neglected fields on the island, but within the past few years it has been resurrected. There are new dugouts for players and aluminum tiered benches for fans. The infield is a sandy-dirt mixture and the outfield is fairly even and maintained. There are also nearby bathrooms, which are, ah, best described as "meh." One thing that RI has going for it are the spectacular NYC skyline views and sunsets....which, after taking in, makes the long F train ride back to Brooklyn pretty okay in my book. *You need a permit to play here, $45/hr, community or $100/hr, private.

This park has come a long way since I was younger. The plus is that people who are moving into the…read moreneighborhood are the lucky ones because they get all the benefits of the new 2010 - 2012 renovations and the in progress renovations. In the 80s and 90s the front of the park was the area where all the drunks and druggies use to hang out. Not anymore those days are over. If you see pictures of this park from the 80s to now you wouldn't believe your eyes. There is a baseball field with fake grass, handball/ basketball courts, Bathrooms(winter 2012), swings for the older kids/adults and swings for small children, dog run and a garden that Alex runs, multiple water fountains, and spray showers. There are some days that you cannot play in the field because the local high school has permits for the field. This was never the case until that school moved into town. The field used to have no grass on it and it was a little torn up but no one complained. I feel as if this park got fixed only because of the yuppies and the new building that was put up called onemurrypark. It's really sad that these changes didn't happen for the locals. The plus side is that no one has to try and work there way into the surrounding stores to try and go to the bathroom. I remember throughout the years people would have to go around the corner to my house just to go. Either way this park will always hold 5 stars because I lived here my whole life. Granted when you walk around the area you tend to not know anyone but at least the rich people moving into the area are nice because they see you as a potential babysitter. I recommend checking out the sculpture that is currently inside the dog run this piece is called "Bigger Bird".But check it out before it's too late because I read that there were plans that they were going to take it away since the dog run ruined it. Also now this park has traffic lights on every corner something the locals tried to get back in the day that suddenly sprung up as soon as the yuppies moved in, so that's a plus even though we are no longer children and can cross the street with no issue. This park is really big (2.524 Acres) and it is something that you should check out. Your kids will love it!
